Perfect Neighbor (The Next Door Daddies Series Book 4)

“You don't understand it because like I said before, you don't understand how you affect people. Especially men. It's hard to be around you and not think of a complete life with you. I know that I couldn't do it.”

“So, just because Jesse wanted to go out with me, he beat you up? How would he even know that anything was going on between us?”

Steven told me that it was kind of his fault. He had been boasting to him and had told Jesse that I was his. It wasn't the worst thing that I had heard, but it was hard not to be a little upset about it. If Stephen would have just kept his mouth shut maybe none of this would have happened.

He had certainly paid for his error though. Steven had been the one that had been attacked after all. He was the one that had lost a friend over it.

“Well, maybe this is finally over then. Doug has been wearing my head out with talk about going to court. Right now I'm not going to worry about it too much though. At least now I have something to tell him that doesn’t involve you and shady dealings.”

“You shouldn't worry about him. I would get you the best lawyer in the country. All you have to do is ask.”

I didn't want to ask for those sorts of things, but I knew that I may have to one day. Doug was unhappy that I was with someone else, but even he could see that the somebody else I was with was far different than him. Steven could do things that Doug would never be able to do. He made me feel things that Jesse couldn’t.

“Why would you do all of this for me, Steven? Just knowing me has caused you so many problems.”

“I would do it all over again, Bonnie. You know that, right?”

I wanted to believe his words. When I couldn't believe just the words that were coming from his mouth, he gave me something else to hold on to. Steven was always good about that and his body was quickly reminding me that there was nothing more that could be done. I was his after all.

  Three months later…

The police finally did their job and took care of Jesse. It left a bit of a vacuum where he had been in school. One of the teachers was promoted to his principle title and the school seemed to run just fine without him there.

The opening of the new wing went off without a hitch. Everything was going perfectly and I'd even been asked to stay on and do a few classes a month for the seniors who were looking into architecture.

Bonnie and I were doing better than we ever had before. I tried to imagine what my life would be like if she wasn't in it. I couldn't actually remember my life before her, but I knew I didn’t want to go back to any existence that she wasn’t in.

Her kids and her ex-husband were still a work in progress, but I knew that no matter what happened, there was still this unbreakable bond between us that wasn't going to go anywhere. I knew that Bonnie was mine. It had taken all of these years for us to finally get back together, but it was worth the wait, no matter how maddening it had all been.

“Why are you over here looking so gloomy? I thought you were going to put the burgers on the grill?”

  “Do I look gloomy?”

She agreed that I did and I had to wonder what it was that she saw.

“I shouldn't look that way. Everything that I ever wanted is right here in front of me. Or at least, almost all of it.”

“You shouldn't be greedy, Steven. If you start asking for too much, then they'll take away what you have.”

  “Who?”

She waved her hands up, like she had no idea.

“Does it really matter? God, fate, destiny, karma, or whatever you want to call it. If you ask too much, then all of a sudden you will miss everything that you took for granted.”

“That sounds like a kid’s story.”

“They always had a moral at the end and it doesn't mean that it wasn't right.”

“I didn't know you were superstitious.”

She shrugged. “I'm really not. I just hate seeing you all frowny-faced and I was trying to get you to smile. What is it that you don’t have that you want?”

“Would you give it to me?”

“It would be silly for me to agree to something before I knew what it was you were talking about.”

  “I see.”

I wanted her to go with it because she trusted me. We still weren’t there yet.

“Well then, I guess I will have to tell you what I’m talking about. Then you can agree to it, though I would have liked it if you would have trusted me more, Bonnie.”

“Why is it so hard just to tell me?”

“I don't know. I just wanted you to know that I would only do what was best for you.”

“And this blind loyalty, what does it get me exactly?”

I heard the suggestion in her voice and I immediately thought of something I knew she would think was worth it. Bonnie was unique in many ways, but there was one way in particular, that she was just the same as every other woman that I had met before. Bonnie had her weaknesses, and her main one was my tongue.

“You agree to what I want, and I will make you scream until you’re hoarse and can’t speak for a couple of days.”

She giggled, but I could see her squirming.

  “How?”

I couldn’t help but grin. She really was naughty.

“You know how. I will lick you until you beg me to fuck you, Bonnie.”

Another tremble and that was enough for me. She never would know what she did to me and the very idea of it, just saying it, made me hard as a rock. I hoped that I could push her to a begging state earlier than later. I didn’t want to wait too long, before I was burying myself deep.

  “Fine, yes.”

“Good, I know that you’ll be a perfect wife.”

She stopped for a moment, before I pulled her in for a kiss.

  “What?”

  “Will you marry me?”

Bonnie giggled and she couldn’t look at me. I wanted her to though. I needed to hear the yes and not just because she wanted sexual favors, but because she loved me, like I loved her. I know that it was a lot to ask, but I couldn’t help it. I didn’t want to.

“Yes, that will work out well.”

  “Really, and why is that?”

“Because our child should be born when we are married.”

  “Our child?”

“Yeah, I just found out this morning. You’re going to be a perfect father. I just know it.”

My heart was threatening to stop, or burst. I wasn’t sure which one was about to happen, but I could just feel it. Everything that I’d hoped for was now coming to fruition, and I’m not sure how I was going to take it all.

  “Are you okay?”

I agreed and started to kiss her again. She was going to be my wife, and I was going to be a father, finally.
