Dark Legacy Page 30

by Valery Starsky

The Shadows silently dissolved into the magical forest.

I need to think it over urgently, Yar decided, sitting down and leaning his back against the rock.

Gelic, without saying a word, stepped up and closed in on the head of the clan. Black Rainbow patrolled the area.

“Oh, Mother System!” Yar could not refrain from exclaiming aloud when he saw several million incoming messages.

“Eva, show me the most important, and then please delete the rest.”

  “Yes, Master.”

Yar read and became more and more amazed, down to the depths of his soul, as he read through the selected messages.

“Well-well,” Yar said aloud in more than a small degree of puzzlement.

Apparently, the Irises decided to act swiftly and radically.

Yar continued to read rave greetings from the dark elf lord and the princess, from Ran Row, and from the lefars.

Memories and awakened anxieties made Yar feel that someone from the Midnighters really wanted to contact him. Yar tried to strengthen this signal. Immediately he saw a tall, handsome young man across from a familiar building on Tirr, and blurry figures moving nearby. The guy almost cried out in surprise, but the connection was not lost. Yar was surprised that he had never been able to make such a clear link before.

It’s because of the addition of energies, their uniformity and strength!

He looked at the young man and could not remember him at all, although the appearance of the stranger was somehow familiar. The young man bowed very elegantly.

“Greetings, my lord. All arrivals on Tyrr want to be with their leader on Elate.”

He seems to be reading my mind ... Who is he?

“I agree. I give you five minutes! Though, first, introduce yourself.”

The young man became stern and looked like a real warrior.

“I’m Arte Row Bright, and we’ll be ready in five minutes, Father.”

The communication could not withstand the strong outburst of emotions that broke free, but a large transport portal rose instantly.

Yar sat stunned, leaning his head against the rock, but the cold stone did not calm down his hot thoughts at all.

  “God! System! I’m a father .”

He had no doubts. Now he could clearly see both his own and Eyl Arh Mote’s features in Arte’s appearance—the white hair and eyes.

“What should I do? What should I say? Oh, Mom and Dad, I need you so much!”

Yar, took a deep breath followed by a slow exhale several times, trying to calm down and at least come to his senses. He failed to do so.

Blacky, I need you, Yar called. He wished for support now more than ever. Almost immediately, the clan leader received a friendly push in the shoulder.

Yar embraced and clung to the cat, running his hands through her black wool. Gradually, he became noticeably calmer next to this soft lump of confidence. Her rough tongue, adoration and confidence led Yar back to a balance. Blacky congratulated him mentally. Joy. The pack acquires experienced young warriors. The leader is great. He has enriched the band with a worthy son and daughter.

Yar got up—it was time to meet the youth.

“Black Rainbow’s never wrong. I have a son and a daughter. What a responsibility,” Yar whispered.

  Chapter 53. Children

W hat did they remember? Much. The horrors of the new world were unforgettable. They were miserable in those fateful days, just profitable goods, slaves. Frightened by the terrible reality, the unfortunate children and their broken psyches were just a small part of the mercilessly destroyed civilization. What happened next? Then, it turned out like in a fairy tale from one of those dreams with mom’s lullabies: the invincible good wizard came and saved them all. Animals, and the strange Shadows, and even a black cat larger than a lion served him. Then he sent them far to the very edge of the universe, so that they could gain strength and became warriors able to protect themselves and the Earth.

These fragile girls and boys did not let their wizard down. They went toward their goal with incredible perseverance, clinging to the successes of the talented children, trying to keep up with them, despite the pain and hardship. The children walked, climbed, and crawled to the heights of combat magic and martial arts.

The Ruler of the Dark World, Eyl Arh Mote, helped them with their inflexible aspirations. She had built a whole complex of buildings around the school for several years. There, the best shamans, portal-men and warriors passed on their knowledge to these young earthlings, marveling at their sense of purpose. The ruler’s children, Arte and Lin, joined them, becoming leaders of this inspired community almost immediately.

The truth about their father was gradually revealed—or maybe Alice Oracle had spoken about it in one of her prophecies. Anyway, everyone knew about it, and the twins’ authority increased even more. Arte and Lin deserved this high status, both in studies and in long, dangerous test trips to the forests of the Dark World.

No matter how hard and exciting it was in the Dark World, the earthlings were eager to return to their native planet to see the sky, the sun, and even the desirable fogs and rain. That day had now finally come. They were incredibly happy, when they were on Tyrr, as they learned that the Earth was no longer dominated by the light elves. By the end of the day, when the best warriors had completed the Tes Recus’ test, each of them received an amazingly joyful message. People were jubilant: someone laughed or screamed like crazy, and others shook their fists, threatening someone in the vast galaxy. The lefars sang a battle song mixed with jumps, clattering fangs and a menacing roar. In this delightful and insane moment, Alice Lukaro, as always, silently approached Arte.

“You should try to contact your father! The master was able to establish a connection, and you will succeed too. You should make it. Come on, we must be on Elate. Otherwise, we will miss all the interesting events that will unfold.”

The allies were running towards Arte from everywhere.

  They’v
e conspired! They ... they believe in me recklessly! A guess, like a war hammer, struck at his very heart.

Alice, shaking her red hair, defiantly laughed when she saw Arte’s surprised face and the portal that was now working next to him.

“Come on, Commander, give the order,” the beautiful young girl with touching dimples on her blistered cheek said, playfully poking Arte in his shoulder as she spoke.

He shouted, “Stand in a line! Forward!”

  ***

It was not long to wait. The scrads came out of the portal first. There were many of them—several dozen, at least. Yar swallowed nervously as Yuki and Ryu were not among them. It was odd enough, of course, but he wouldn’t refuse this detachment.

Yar looked at Black Rainbow, and her appearance was awesome—the cat seemed to have increased in size several times over: the claws were released, the fur stood on end, and it squinted unkindly. Yar immediately noticed that all the scrads had lowered their muzzles and were afraid to look at Blacky. While they were standing in line, Yar contacted Uyu through the interface.

She smiled and, as always, replied elegantly, “I’m listening to you, Master.”

“Uyu, I opened a portal on Elate for our young people from Tyrr, and the transfer has already begun. There is not enough space for everyone. How are things with the Sugar Palace?”

“Master, the building is completely abandoned. There is a huge parade ground, perhaps you should send the people here, and we will meet them. I think one hundred thousand men will fit here without issue.”

After a few seconds, Yar received a link to the desired area, and he immediately installed a portal there. At the same time, Yar felt that he was a little shaken up by all the news. He was afraid of the unknown. He did not understand and did not know how to behave with his children.

Therefore, he corrected his own portal spell to distract himself a little. Yar agreed with the name ‘Customizable Yar Dark’s Portal’.

He was pleased to work with a new spell.

Yar changed its color by selecting black with a slight smoke, and then he expanded the entrance—it turned out epic: a shining rectangular dip with a curling black haze.

Why have I not tried this before? Yar thought, jumping to the top of the cliff as his confidence returned to him.

He raised his hand and, using the voice of orders, rumbled like thunder, “Those of you arriving from Tyrr, go into the dark portal!”

He wanted to cheer them up, press everyone to his chest, but he stopped himself. A large detachment of huge, gloomy men with massive luminous swords puzzled Yar. While he was tensely thinking who they were, those who he had been waiting for so long and painfully left the portal. He barely resisted, so as not to cry out. They left the portal without taking their eyes off Yar.

A young tall warrior in light leather armor with a bare head went ahead, his hair was golden and wavy, and he had a special light walk.

  Master, Yar understood.

He looks a lot like Mote! His throat was dry, as if he had long been at noon in the desert. A girl was walking next to Arte. Yar seemed to see himself: she was slim, with black hair and huge expressive eyes the color of a summer Petersburg sky.

“They are awesome,” Yaroslav said with emotion as he jumped out of the portal literally inches from his children, hugging both of them at once. He was dizzy, and his heart was ready to jump out of his chest.

“Sorry, my dear, I did not know about your existence until recently.”

“We know, Father,” Lin Row Haze replied quietly.

  Yar’s eyes filled with tears.

He recognized Yuki and Ryu immediately, but they had become huge.

Taisiya and Arthur were standing next to the scrads, and, it seemed, his old friends had become very close. Arthur was noticeably taller and stronger; he looked like a veteran. The man had several scars on his face, and his eyes were harsh, tenacious.

Well, this was expected, but Taisia the Blue Witch had been able to retain her touchingly fragile image of a naive slender girl, with large eyes and long black eyelashes. However, her high level said it would be dangerous to mess with her.

Yar was greatly puzzled by the sight of a powerful, broad-shouldered warrior with a flaming two-handed sword behind his back.

Skhash Uuri the Northerner, Skhash Uuri the Northerner, Yar kept reading, looking at the hefty fighter before him in bewilderment.

De-mutation! Mote will have carried out the de-mutation, and this is Skhash Uuri's true appearance. It immediately became clear who those warriors were.

They are gourdes! Yar thought with pleasure.

“God damn all these rules and etiquette!” the clan leader said loudly and seemed to break the invisible barrier.

Yar hugged Skhash Uuri tightly and fraternally.

  “You look great, Northerner!”

“Master, you are like an inaccessible mountain peak. I didn’t think that this level of development would be possible.’

“Everything can be achieved. I see you have worked hard on Tyrr. We will talk later; I have a lot to tell you.”

Then, as if taken for granted, Yar realized that he was kissing passionately with Taisia while the rest of the clan members were laughing loudly. Yar managed to eventually break away from the cunning Taisia’s sweet lips.

Arte giggled and said to his slightly discouraged parent, “Father, Taisia has declared for the past ten years, and argued with everyone, that the first thing she would do was to kiss the master to the envy of all the other girls. Because you owe her as much as fifteen years without a single kiss.”

Yar only shook his head and asked, “Are there any other disputes or vows related to me?”

“No, that’s all!” Taisia said, pleased with herself,. Yar sighed, realizing that the kiss had been adorable.

“We must go,” Yar summed up. Surrounded by the jumping scrads, they entered the dark portal.

The parade ground in the Sugar Palace impressed Yar with its size. The squares were located around the edges of this grand building. Apparently, they were used for daytime rest and walks. The variety of vegetation here was overwhelming. Yar recognized only the Imperial Mellorn—everything else was new and agitated his imagination.

Looks like I’ll have to stay here for a while, Yar decided.

He walked along the line and realized that he was right when he sent people to Tyrr. They were fit, well-developed, their sources were magnificent, and many had their own magical spells. All had a duplicate source. What was even more pleasing, was that some of them had Tes Recus’ marks on their wrists.

When Yar approached the brave gourdes, he almost shed a tear, but he still managed to keep his composure. Yar saw familiar names: Pipipuk, Kao Lu Tagged.

The clan leader hugged them tightly in a military way, repeating the same thing, “I’m glad you’re with me. I’m glad you’re with me.”

Yar then walked a few steps away from the detachment, waited a bit to calm down, and then addressed those present. The acoustics of the parade ground allowed speaking without tension or amplification.

“This planet, Elate, is now ours. It belongs to our clan.”

Yar spread his arms, “Everything. Everything that is here, the whole planet, is at your complete disposal. Give names to each blade of grass, flower or bug, as well as the seas, mountains and deserts. Now, it is your privilege and a gift from the clan. Divide yourselves into groups and create history, not forgetting leveling up. Burn and his squad will support each group.”

Yar addressed the orbiting group mentally. After three heartbeats, the fiery essences descended to a safe height. Yar looked at Uyu.

“Help those who returned with the organization that is needed.”

“Yes, Master,” the elf said. It was noticeable that she clearly approved of Yar’s actions.

Then Yar heard Eva’s voice. Master, you have a letter. Reading is strictly required.

Yar, you did what was required. The main thing for you to deal with now
is the entrance exams to the academy. Much, if not all, depends on them. There is no time at all. I hope for your prudence in this matter.

  Vey the Shamrock

Yar leaned against a Mellorn. The sacred tree didn’t push him away, but on the contrary, it helped by its clarity of mind and calmness.

“Leil! Uyu! I want you to be in charge here. I need to hurry!” Yar shouted.

Waving to his children with sadness, he stepped into the portal.

Arte and Lin suddenly heard a loud but soothing voice in their heads, The Great Leader loves you, but he has many worries. There are too many destitute people in the inhabited worlds, and this is his concern.

Black Rainbow approached them on soft paws and carefully licked everyone, no matter how they reacted.

  Chapter 54. Optional Complication

D espite the powerful air-filtering spells, it smelled of burning and overheated steel. A fiery tornado moved swiftly, with the speed of a locomotive, through the main training room, demolishing generated opponents as it passed, turning them into dust.

“Stop!” Vey the Shamrock shouted, “Enough!”

Then he said calmly, with more than a hint of a cunning squint, “Okay, Yar. I would agree that you are ready for the exams.”

Yar froze, his fighting spells dispelled. He bowed to his mentor and stepped outside the combat territory, wiping sweat from his brow and waiting with great interest to continue. Vey had appointed this day in advance to discuss further actions. However, he was silent for several minutes as he looked closely at Yar.

Well, his gaze is like an X-ray, Yar thought. Why is he silent? Why?

The hitch did not last long, and, finally, his teacher frowned and said importantly, “You stink, Yar! You can kill enemies not only with spells, but also with a stench.”

Vey laughed loudly, reclining in a comfortable chair.

The clan leader shook his head.

“You know, teacher, this is wrong. When will you teach me this generic skill? No matter how hard I try, I can’t laugh as loudly as you and Ran Row!”

Immediately, like an anti-personnel shell, a boot flew toward Yar, and he barely managed to dodge it. The wizard, squinting, then said cheerfully, “Well, put yourself in order, have a quick snack, and we will begin. Come on, come on! What was it you said there just now? Time does not wait? That is very true! We are running out of time.”
