Vice: Sins of Seven Page 18

by René, Dani

“I’ll find you this evening on the balcony,” he tells me in a hushed whisper, and I wonder if he’s in a meeting. At times, he’ll call me while in meetings with his brothers, Franco and Gio.

  “My dress will be—”

“Don’t tell me, gattina,” he tells me. “I will find you. You know I like to play hide and seek, and when I find you, kitten . . .” His words trail off into nothing; the silence is the promise. My nipples harden and my panties are wet from thinking about what he’s going to do to me.

“I look forward to it, il sicario,” I tease him, calling him a killer because I know he’s done bad things, and each time I utter the nickname, he only chuckles.

“Ciao,” he says before hanging up.

Rolling over onto my back, I stare stupidly at the ceiling with a grin on my face. My new life is turning out to be everything I need to start fresh.

  Oliver

  The office is empty.

Everyone has gone home, and I’m sitting back, staring out at the city slowly coming alive as the moon hangs in the dark sky. Chance told me not to be home before seven, so, for the first time in a long while, I’m obeying him instead of the other way around.

Glancing at my watch, I notice it’s almost time to leave. He thinks I don’t know what he’s doing, setting up dinner, preparing a special meal for us. The thing is, he doesn’t realize I have a gift for him.

I should’ve been the one at home, setting the table, making sure the food is ready as soon as he walked in. And when he enters, I would be sitting with a tumbler waiting on him to gift him the item I bought.

Instead, he has been fighting me tooth and nail to cook, so I allowed him that one privilege to mess with my plans. With both of us enjoying dominance, there are times we have a push and pull, and even though it would’ve annoyed me in the past, with Chance, I bask in it.

Grabbing my jacket and keys, along with my phone and wallet, I head out of my office and down to the garage. When I slip into the driver’s seat, my phone pings with a message.

  I don’t read it.

  I don’t need to because I know it’s him.

The ride home doesn’t take me long. And when I finally pull into the drive, I notice none of the lights on. Frowning, I exit the vehicle and head inside. The foyer is silent. There’s not a sound coming from the kitchen, which is rather strange.

But the moment I step into the dining room area, I see him. Chance is standing at the windows that overlook the backyard. He’s dressed in a dark pair of slacks, and a shirt that looks white, but with the candlelit room, I can’t be sure.

“I’m guessing dinner is ready?” I question when I near him, taking in the place settings. The china is expensive, a set I bought so long ago I’d forgotten I own it.

“It is.” He turns. Smiling at me, he hands me a glass with a shot of alcohol. A smoky fragrance comes from it, and I realize it’s my favorite malt whisky.

“This is rather fancy,” I say, waving my hand over the table. Two candles sit in the center, the flames dancing in the darkness, making Chance’s skin flicker with the glow.

“It’s a special evening,” he tells me, and my heart leaps into my throat.

If he means what I think he does, I may want to take him upstairs and fuck him into next week. Stepping closer to him, I swallow my drink, savoring the burn for a moment before reaching my hand around the back of his neck. I pull him toward me, our lips inches apart.

“Tell me,” I command. My tone is husky, needy for him to admit what I already know. We’ve been talking about this for months. And with the wedding coming up, I plan to focus solely on the dream he has of running a club in New York once we’re married.

Chance clears his throat, a small grin playing on his lips. “Carrick and Mason signed off on my business plan. I’ll be the proud owner of the NYC club.”

Pulling him in, I press a kiss to his lips. “And I’ll be right beside you.”

“Are you sure you want to leave Chicago?” he questions, and I knew this is something we would need to discuss.

“My job can be done from anywhere in the world,” I tell him. “And being beside you is the only thing that matters. Now, I have something for you.” Stepping back, I head into the foyer and grab the gift box that was delivered yesterday. The moment I saw it, I knew it would be perfect for Chance.

When I return to the dining room, I place the box in his hand, waiting for him to realize what it is. The click of the lid echoes around us, and those green eyes I’ve been losing myself in for the past few months lift to mine, and the wetness that shines in them makes me smile.

“This . . .” He lifts the object from the black velvet. A sleek silver band which will fit around his wrist perfectly has an onyx stone in the middle. The engraving on the inside is something I had personalized just for Chance. “This is . . .”

“It’s yours. It means you’re mine. I wanted to give you a collar, but this is something I’d love to see on your arm forever.”

  “But the wedding—”

“The wedding is for our family. This is for us,” I confirm. It’s true; this is our private moment, only for our eyes.

“I love you, Oliver. You are everything to me.”

“And you’re my world.” I smile. “Forever.”

  What’s next for me?

A brand new dark NA standalone is coming. Here’s a little snippet.

  “Your parents are dead.”

The words ring in my ears like a foghorn in the darkness.

  Sounds meld into nothing.

Only silence remains as I pull in a breath, it hurts to do it, my lungs feel as if there are pins filling them.

When I let out the breath to keep the pain at bay, it doesn’t help. I’m left with agony so acute, it feels as if my chest has been sliced with a sharp blade and I’m flayed before the two police officers who are watching me intently.
