Beneath Passion's Skies Page 34

by Bobbi Smith

Steve took Sarah’s hand and led her to the bed in their stateroom on the steamboat. They had slipped away from the wedding reception to take their honeymoon trip, and they were at last alone.

“I love you, Sarah,” he told her as he drew her close and kissed her with sweet passion. She murmured softly and met his lips with equal fervor. She’d been waiting for this moment all her life, and now, at last, it was hers. She was married to the man she loved, and they were going to live happily ever after.

Steve scooped Sarah into his arms and lay her upon the wide bed. Shedding their clothes, they came together in a rapturous mating. There was no shyness tonight, no need to hold back. Each gave to the other; and, in the aftermath of ecstasy’s storm, they lay together, not talking, only feeling. It was perfection, and they would treasure this bliss forever.

“What are you thinking about?” Blade asked Angel. She stood at the window of the hotel room, and he wrapped his arms about her and drew her to his chest.

“Nothing and everything,” Angel sighed, leaning against him. His arms were strong, and she cherished the moment.

Blade brushed the golden veil of her hair aside and pressed a heated kiss to her neck. He was rewarded by her shiver of desire. “Thinking back, I still can’t believe you walked right into that bar to hire me, but I’m glad you did.”

She turned in his arms, pressing herself against him. “Blade, have you decided what you want to do about the ranch? Do you want to live in Texas or do you want to stay here?”

“I love Texas, but I love you more,” he told her, kissing her, parting her lips and tasting of her honeyed sweetness.

As his hands skimmed over her slender figure, Angel gave herself up to his expertise. She reveled in the excitement his kiss and touch aroused. She returned caress for caress, brazenly trying to give him the same pleasure he was giving her. Blade broke away from her.

“I wanted to take my time loving you tonight, but I won’t be able to if you keep that up,” he growled in a low voice.

“We’ve got the rest of our lives to take our time. I want you, Blade. I want you now.”

They came together in a frenzied joining that spoke of passion and desire. Each strove to give to the other the perfect ecstasy, and in seeking to please each other, they gave more joy to themselves. When Blade moved over her and possessed her, he shuddered at the intensity of emotion that surged through him. There was something so tender and so precious about their lovemaking that he knew they would never be apart, that they would always be together. Moving as one, Blade and Angel sought love’s pinnacle and reached it together. They drifted in heavenly peace, savoring the happiness that was theirs and knowing that nothing would ever separate them.

“I think Lucky would be happier in Texas,” she whispered as she curled against Blade’s side some time later, her head resting on his shoulder, her hand softly exploring his hard-muscled, lightly-furred chest.

“What about you?” Blade was determined not to pressure her into anything she didn’t want. If she wanted to remain in Philadelphia, he would stay.

“I think I’d like to go to Texas with you and Lucky. If it’s as special as you say it is, I know I’ll be happy there.”

“I promise I’ll make you happy, Angel—as happy as you’ve made me.” Blade kissed her deeply. “I love you.”

  “And I love you.”

They blended together again in the dance of love, secure in the knowledge that their future days would be filled with love and laughter and their nights would be filled with passionate ecstasy.

“Aunt Blanche, what are we going to do tonight?” Christopher asked as he settled in at the Windsor house with her and Lucky late that night after the reception. He and Lucky would be staying there with the spinster until the newlyweds returned from their honeymoons.

“I don’t know, sweetheart. What would you like to do?” she asked, a wee bit tired from all the excitement of the day, but not unwilling to spend some time with the boys.

“Want to play some cards?” Christopher asked, taking care to keep his expression blank. He knew it wouldn’t do to let her and Lucky know just how good he’d become since Steve had taught him so many tricks.

  “All right,” she agreed.

Christopher turned to Lucky and asked, “Do you want to play, too?”

“Sure,” Lucky answered easily. “What are we playing? Five card stud or seven card draw?”

Christopher regarded him with a spark of respect, wondering if he’d made a mistake in thinking Lucky would be an easy mark.

Lucky smiled to himself. He was an experienced card player, and fully intended to win some of Christopher’s money. Lucky followed them into the dining room, ready to test his skill. Like his name said, he was lucky.
