by Jaci Miller
As that veracity took hold in her mind, the golden aura around Gabby surged, exploding into shimmering beams of light that pulsated throughout the room, sending Stevie and the dogs scurrying to her side. The golden light expanded, creating a shimmering fog, a subtle mist that filled the room, encasing all of them in its vitality.
As the golden mist hovered around them, she could feel an ancient energy come forth. Its power was unmistakable. It moved toward her through the mist, drenched with the essence of an archaic past.
Suddenly, she could hear Gabby’s voice echoing around them, confident and resolute, the ancient energy throbbing as she spoke.
“The time of the Second Rising has begun.”
As Gabby’s words hung in the air, Dane’s head began to throb. Her magic racing through her veins as she felt a malevolent presence invade her senses. A cold darkness chilled her skin and the stench of decaying rot surrounded her as the deathly rattle of its haunting laughter filled her mind.

Acknowledgments
This book came to life thanks to my husband Dale who allowed me to dream and provided me with the time and space to develop that dream. To Michelle, Deb, Margo, and Kim, your friendship inspires not only my creativity, but my life, this book would not have been possible if not for all of you. To my Jack Russell Terrier Ike, thanks for sleeping under my writing desk and keeping me company.
To everyone else who influenced this book, whether you know it or not, your impact on my life helped to create these characters and these worlds. And to my overactive subconscious, thanks for all the great ideas, dreaming is creating.
