by John Willis
The kindness of Geoff and Margot was matched by the supportive response of their children. Anne, in Massachusetts, and Bernard, in Paris, willingly provided notes and other vital details. Their brother, Robert, living nearer in the UK, was unfailingly generous and kind both with his time and also with meticulously kept letters and notebooks. Having been handed Geoff’s typewritten letters back in 1981 it was remarkable to finally read the originals, written in Geoff’s own hand. They are a unique record of an extraordinary period in our history, and the impact that war had on one family who were both ordinary and extraordinary at the same time.
