Deeper We Fall Page 33

by Chelsea M. Cameron

“Sure,” he said, a smile playing on his lips.

  “I don’t owe you anything.”

  “No, you don’t.”

“Good. Now we’ve got that straight –” I grabbed his shirt and yanked him toward my mouth. Luckily, my aim was good and his lips crashed against mine perfectly. He froze for a moment in surprise, but that didn’t last long. The cape fell to the floor as his arms captured me, pulling me close. It wasn’t a sweet kiss, it was a demanding, get-your-clothes-off kind of kiss. It was a kiss that made me want to wrap my legs around him and take him back to my room.

I heard people in walking by making comments, but I was too preoccupied with the feel of his mouth on mine.

He slowed the kiss and finally we broke apart. Both of us were breathing heavily. Green eyes seared into mine.

“What was that for?” He took a step back, but didn’t let go of me.

I shrugged on shoulder as I tried to get my breath back. “I’ve never kissed a guy with a lip ring. I was curious.”

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The more books I write, the longer the list of people I need to thank gets.

First, to my parents and my biological family, I love you, love you, love you. Throughout this journey you’ve been so excited with every step along this crazy journey. Thanks, Dad. I know that all of this is because of you. I couldn’t ask for a better guardian angel.

Second, to my non-biological family, my friends. Thanks for listening when I talk about my characters as real people and are for being okay with me ditching you for them. Thanks for telling me when I need to get out of the house. You’re the reason I still have people skills.

Third, to my online family, including my tweeps and all the awesome (dare I say?) fans that I have met along the way. You guys make my day, each and every day. I love hearing from you, so keep it up!

Fourth, to the fellow authors, indie and otherwise I’ve met along the way. You are a crazy awesome bunch and I’m so beyond thrilled to be a part of your world. You astound me with your coolness.

Fifth, to the EPIC bloggers who have supported me and read my books and reviewed them and talked about them. YOU ARE THE WIND BENEATH MY WINGS. Without you, I wouldn’t be able to do this.

Sixth, to my Team, including my editor, and my fabulous beta readers. You are an integral part of my process and without you, my books wouldn’t be what they are. You make me better each and every day.

Seventh (because I like things to come in sevens) to YOU. Yeah, YOU who are reading this. You are the reason I get to wear yoga pants and play with imaginary people all day. I wish I could send you all fruit baskets.
