“You don’t think the law applies to you,” he said.

“And neither do the people I take out. That brings me back to Richard Tate. I have him, he’s unharmed, but I need him to get to the others. We have a plan, which entails flying to Russia where Richard is to meet with one of his Killing Game contacts.”

“Do you speak Russian?” Alexi asked.

  “Nope.”

  “Does your friend?”

  “Nope.”

“You’re taking quite the risk going to a country whose language you don’t understand and into a lion’s den that may be above your skill level,” Alexi said.

“It is the risk I’m willing to take. I’ll have back-up.”

“Does this back-up speak Russian?” Alexi asked, one eyebrow cocked.

  “I didn’t ask.”

“You might want to do that.”

“Sure. But if he doesn’t, are all these questions leading up to something other than pointing out my lack of linguistics?”

Alexi sighed and took another swig of his beer. “It’s that attitude of yours that turns me on so much. Right now, though, it’s pissing me off, so check it. You don’t have the privilege to be incredulous at this point.”

  “Duly noted.”

  “I mean it.”

I held my hands up. “This is me, surrendering.”

He lowered his head, shaking it. “Jesus, I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that this is all happening.” He looked back up at me. “A part of me wants to beat the fuck out of you right now.”

I shrugged. “I mean, you could try, but it’ll only hurt you more,” I warned.

  “Oh, why is that?”

“Because, I’m an Enhanced Human. My skin is impenetrable, I’m extremely strong, I can change myself to look like whoever I want, and I heal very fast.”

His jaw slacked again as he looked at me in astonishment. “All this fucking time, I never knew.”

“It’s because I have these abilities that I use them to save people.”

Alexi sighed—heavily. “I get that you see that angle and I can’t deny that there isn’t truth to that. It’s just… from what I do know of you, I can’t see that being a side of you, Eric. How could you do it? I mean, mutilate those people? It was sick.”

“I wanted to give to them just as good as they gave their victims. Why should Walter die with a bullet to the head, when he tortured that boy until he finally got bored of hearing the child scream and seeing all the blood before issuing the final blow? If it’s any consolation, I did puke afterward.”

“I guess that’s something. It proves that what you did affected you in some way.”

“I’m not the enemy, Alexi. I’m a solution. You have to agree with that on some level or you wouldn’t have agreed to join me,” I said.

He finished off his beer and sat it down on the floor. “How did you become Enhanced?”

“That’s a long story and I’ll tell you later. It’s not really important to the matter at hand.”

“Fine, but I’m holding you to that. Who are your partners?”

“You’ll meet them. For now, you’re dealing with me.”

“I’ve already promised I wouldn’t turn any of you in.” Alexi stated.

“I know and I believe you. But still, it’s just us right now.”

He nodded and switched from the table to the sofa beside me. “If you’re going to Russia, I should go with you.”

I shook my head. “No can do. These people are cautious, and we’ve already made arrangements. They’re expecting Richard and two bodyguards.”

“Well, I need to be somewhere to help you with the language. You won’t know if they’re plotting against you or what they’re saying.”

  “That’s just the risk—”

“A risk you don’t have to take. I may be pissed off at you right now and even a little freaked, but that doesn’t mean I want you to get hurt. And with how far you’ve come in this investigation, you don’t want it blown due to a language barrier,” Alexi wisely pointed out, so much so, I couldn’t argue against the logic.

“My hacker friend will have a translator software running.”

Alexi laughed. “Which will not correctly translate to the precision in which I could. I speak, read, and write in fluent French and Russian, even the slang, you know.”

“I know, I remember you telling me how many times you were cumming in all the different languages.”

He smirked and looked away. “Don’t do that.”

  “Do what?”

“Remind me of better times when I’m angry with you.”

“Are those times in our past? I hope not.”

He looked at me now. “That depends on what happens next. Do you trust me to help you?”

If I said that I did, that would mean putting him in contact with Jordan, and he’d have to be there while I was in Russia with Bishop and Richard. I’d have to trust him not to take Jordan to jail, confiscate all our shit. Of course, I might have an easy time breaking Jordan out of jail, considering I could look like anyone I wanted and was strong as fuck. But who needed that trouble? Still, the question remained… did I trust him?

“Well, do you?” he asked again when it took me too long to answer.

I took a deep breath. “I love you, Alexi, so I want to trust you.”

“I love you too, and I need you to let me see this through with you. What happens next between us, I don’t know. We’ll have to work it out as we go along,” he said.

I wanted to lean into him, kiss those lips that had brought me so much pleasure before this night, but I knew that would be a mistake. This was the first time I’d been in his presence and my cock was soft. I hoped this wouldn’t be a lasting effect.

“When I’m in Russia, you’ll be with Jordan, my friend. He’s also the one who discovered the Killing Game while surfing the dark web. He’s a gentle soul and just wants to help with what he knows. He uses his skill to do the right thing even when the law would frown upon it. You’d think the law would be on the dark web more than it is. Like, why does it even exist? But it does. Which means the law can’t help, but we can.”

“If we can find something during all of this that can take them down in the open, we will. If not, we will do it your way,” Alexi said.

That took me back. “What do you mean?”

“It’s not easy for me to admit, but you were right. I’m sure you’ve listened to all of my conversations with my partner. You know that I’ve looked in every nook and cranny and still couldn’t find the shit you did on Mayor Danvers and Mr. Darring. So, I know I’m in over my head, like you said. Therefore, if we can’t take them down legally… let’s just say, I don’t want any of them to get away with anything.” Alexi rose and walked into the kitchen to get another beer.

“You sure you’re not drinking too much?” I asked.

“I’ve earned the right to get shitfaced tonight,” was his reply before taking some swigs. While he was drinking, I went into his bedroom and removed the bug in there and turned it off. I also took the one off the coffee table.

“Is that all of them?” Alexi asked, pointing to the bugs on the table.

“There’s one in your squad car under the passenger seat,” I said.

“I’ll get that one tomorrow,” Alexi groaned.

  “Don’t destroy it, they’re expensive.”

“How about I shove it up your ass?”

  “I’d rather have your cock.”

  He snorted. “Don’t get cute.”

“I’m serious, Alexi. I love you and I hope you don’t hold what I’ve done and what I will do against me.”

  “Just know that I don’t approve… to a point.”

“Fair enough. So, what happens now?”

“When are you going to Russia?”

  “Tomorrow morning.”

“Damn, you were really cutting it close, bringing me into this in the ninth inning with all bases loaded,” Alexi fussed.
<
br />   “It wasn’t my plan to bring you in. Bis-the Black Knight wanted a cop on board.” I had to catch myself before I blew another partner’s cover. I’d let that be Bishop’s decision if he told Alexi his real name. He should, since all of this shit was his idea.

“Oh.” Alexi raised both eyebrows. “You were just going to keep bugging and fucking me and leaving me in the dark?”

I shrugged. “Pretty much. I mean, eventually I was going to tell you. Maybe after I’d taken down the Killing Game.”

“You’ve got trust issues, you know that?” He shook his head. I could tell the alcohol was starting to mellow him out, not that he was a tyrant before he had downed three beers. One thing that turned me on about Alexi was his level headedness. It was also what made him a damned good detective.

“You’ll get no debate from me on that. You and Jordan are the only two people I do trust.”

“What about this Black Knight dude?”

  “He’s on limited trust.”

Alexi laughed. “Stay the night, but understand this… we’re not fucking.”

“Are you sure you want me to stay the night?”

He nodded lazily. “I do. Maybe then, you can tell me about how you became an Enhanced.”

“How about you put down the drink. We get you some coffee and I take you back to my place. You can meet the crew and even talk to Richard Tate yourself. You need to get your feet wet, especially since we’re flying out tomorrow,” I suggested.

Alexi put his bottle of beer down and nodded. “I think that is the better idea.”

I put my beer down and stood up from the sofa, offering him a hand. He took it and we were now side by side. I wanted so much to drop to my knees and remind him of how much he meant to me with my mouth, but now was not the time. We left his apartment and I drove my car back home with Alexi beside me. I wondered what would happen. I decided to call Jordan and give him the heads up.

“Are you sure you want to do that?” Jordan asked.

“I’m doing it. It’s time. Besides, there’s no going back.”

“Well, you’re right about that. Pandora did cartwheels out of that box. I thought you were just going to give him the envelope and a cryptic phone call and that was it.”

“I did, but the phone call wasn’t enough. Not for Alexi. I think this is the right move, J. We can trust him.”

“It would take you to fuck a cop who could look past your ass breaking the law. I mean, I know first-hand how great you are in bed, but I don’t know if it’s that good,” Jordan teased.

“Oh, it is… it’s that damn good and better. So, how are you and Black Knight getting along?”

“Are you asking if we fucked?”

“Well, yes and no. I just wanted to know if you were getting along.”

“We are and no, we didn’t fuck… we did sixty-nine though.”

“I’m surprised you did that much with Richard there.”

“Well, he’s in the bathroom with headphones on and the door closed. I felt a little bit more relaxed to take his mouth for a spin and to show him what I can do.”

I laughed because I loved Jordan’s spunk, double-meaning pun intended. “Well, I’ll be there in about ten minutes.”

“Ooooh, okay. This is about to be very interesting. He’ll be surrounded by three vigilantes and a criminal that will never be proven guilty. I want to see how Alexi the detective handles this night.”

“Me too. He’s a little buzzed, so can you get a pot of coffee brewing? I want him to sober up so he’ll be on top of his game. Did you get the tickets?”

“Do you even need to ask? Baby, you know I’m on top of my game twenty-four-seven,” Jordan bragged. “First class, because that’s how Richard would travel. And flying public will be best for him since going private didn’t work out for him so well the last time.”

“It makes sense. He’d want it to be public, less of a chance for something to happen. All of our chips are falling into place. Alexi will be helping with the translations on your end.”

“I love how you’re talking about me like I’m not sitting right next to you in this car,” Alexi said out of the blue.

“Oh! You’ve got me on speaker phone? You asshole,” Jordan quipped.

“No, I don’t have you on speaker phone, don’t get your panties in a bunch. It’s just he’s right here and listening to my side of the convo. Look, all our cards are on the table,” I said in my defense.

“I guess he knows my name?” J asked.

  “He does.”

“We really have to work on your espionage skills, Eric,” J said. “Put me on speaker.”

I pushed the buttons so J’s voice could come through my phone and Alexi could hear. “Okay, you’re on.”

“Hi, Alexi, I’m looking forward to finally meeting you,” J said.

“I am too. Like to see the face that matches this voice,” Alexi replied in his half flirty manner. Yeah, that alcohol was really working its magic.

“I feel the same way. I’ve heard so much about you. Soooooo much,” J teased.

“Okay, enough, J-bird.” I took it off speaker and looked at Alexi. “It’s not that I was ignoring you. I’m just catching Jordan up, so relax.”

“Sure… I can’t wait to meet the rest of your crew.” Alexi cocked an eyebrow after that. “By the way, talking and driving is illegal, not that you give a shit,” he grumbled.

  “You’re right, I don’t. Sit tight.”

“I’m going to let you go so you can concentrate on driving and your grumpy passenger,” Jordan said. “Don’t worry, I’ll get the pot of coffee ready. See you soon.”

We hung up and I looked at Alexi. “You aren’t a cop when you enter my home. You’re a vigilante like the rest of us.”

“I’ll be whatever the fuck I am, so stop trying to control all the angles. I know that’s your thing. I won’t let you control me, Eric,” Alexi said, and the way he took charge like that sparked my sleeping cock back to life. The man just did things to me that I couldn’t comprehend, nor did I want to. Just riding the wild wave that was all things Alexi was my biggest rush. I really hoped it wasn’t over between us. That the exposure was truly worth the risk. For now, I would take it one day at a time.

The saga continues in the next episode: Gamble.
