“Even if I have to spend my days licking old King Charlie’s boots.”

She shook her head and cupped his face. “Well, hopefully it won’t come to that.”

He raised a brow. “Is that a yes, then?”

She took a deep breath and slowly let it out. “Go find a reverend.”

His smile took her breath away. Then he picked her up and spun her around, and she swatted at him. “Put me down, you madman! You’ll start bleeding again.”

“I dinna care,” he said, though he lowered her back to the floor. Slowly. Letting her feel every inch of him as he did so.

“I care,” she said, staying on her toes so she could press a soft kiss to his lips.

Someone cleared a throat and Rose and Will looked over at a weepy but smiling Elizabet and a very amused John.

“We are thrilled for ye both. However…” John started.

But Elizabet burst in before he could finish. “You don’t need to go anywhere! Unless their plans change, Alice and Philip are planning on returning once Alice sees to her sister. And they will be staying here at Kirkenroch.”

Will just blinked at them and then burst out laughing. Rose joined in, wrapping her arms around his waist.

He cupped her face in his hands and gazed down at her. “Will ye stay here with me, then?”

  “Yes.”

“Ye ken I mean Scotland when I say here? Because I meant it. We can return to London, if ye wish.”

“Scotland has a few things I’ve grown to love,” she said, reaching up to kiss him. “Now let’s go find that reverend.”

His laughter rang through the hall and her heart, filling her with joy. She’d been so afraid she’d miss her home or afraid he’d resent her for having to leave his.

But he was her home. And she was his. As long as they were together, the rest would fall into place.

  They were home now.
