She smiled, she couldn't have not smiled. It was all she could do not to burst out laughing from the sheer force of the joy burning brightly inside herself. “I love you too, Jordan Bishop. Quite a lot, actually.”
“I don't know what I'm gonna do, exactly, but I don't think I can leave the city. Now while you're here. I'm going to stay, and I'm going to figure it out. I don't care if it's dangerous. My people are safe and you... You're worth the risk.”
She wrapped her arms around his waist. He was here. She felt like she'd used to on Christmas mornings when she was a girl. It was like a dream come true. Oh God... She gave herself a sharp pinch on the arm and yelped.
He laughed. “What the hell was that for?”
She rubbed her skin ruefully. “Just, um, just making sure this wasn't a dream.”
He smiled. “It is a dream, baby. It's a dream we're both dreaming, and I for one ain't never gonna wake up.” And he leaned in and kissed her again.
“I have some things I need to tell you about,” she said, kissing him back, moaning slightly as she pressed herself against his powerful black body, “about my job and... and stuff, but...”
“But what?” he asked, his lips against hers.
“It can wait,” she said, “right now I want you to take me to bed.”
He smiled, “I think I can manage that.” He picked her right up off her feet, cradling her in his arms. “Let's go.”
She pushed the door shut with her foot, and she let him carry her up the stairs to the waiting bed. “I didn't think I was going to get a happy ending,” she murmured, pressing her cheek against his muscular chest.
He kissed her again. “Who said anything about that? Babe, this is just the beginning for you and me, just you watch.”
And, with that, they tumbled together into bed, still wrapped in each other's arms. Natalie laughed, and she put out the light.
