He rose to join me, popping Shrimp onto his shoulder. “Sounds good. Give me Café Greco cinnamon buns and I’ll follow you anywhere.”
“Good,” I said, bumping against him in a companionable way and hoping no one told him Krissy was the one who was baking them. I’d better learn her secrets for making them quickly if I wanted to keep this man wrapped around my finger.
And despite the outlook for the future, which wasn’t exactly rosy, I did. I really did. I smiled at him as we entered the café, and he dropped a quick kiss on my lips.
This was it, wasn’t it? A feeling of home. A feeling of family.
“No,” he whispered to me as though he’d read my mind. “It only gets better from here.”
