Crown of Magic Page 28

Avery frowned, his question provoking concern. “She’s been quiet lately—which is actually worrying! I hope she’s okay.”

“She’s a spirit!” Dan said. “I don’t care where she is as long as she doesn’t appear in the shop.”

A giggle from above and behind them caused them all to look around, and at the top of the dunes behind them, they saw a couple holding hands and looking dreamily at each other.

Reuben sniggered. “There will be so many babies around here in nine months! Those dunes saw a lot of action last night.”

“Will you miss Beltane, Reuben?” Avery asked him, laughing. More than anyone, Reuben had enjoyed the mischief that Beltane had brought.

“I think I will!” He winked. “There’s always next year!”

  Author’s Note

Thank you for reading Crown of Magic, the seventh book in the White Haven Witches series.

I had a lot of fun writing this! I love exploring the pagan beliefs and festivals, and Beltane was an absolute must for me. I’m not entirely sure where the idea for Tristan and Iseult came from, but once it was in my head, I couldn’t let it go. I really enjoyed weaving the story with Beltane, and it is fittingly Cornish! The name Iseult is interchangeable with Isolde, so you’ll see both depending which version you read.

I used the basic plot of Wagner’s opera, Tristan and Isolde, for the play, and having spent quite a bit of time acting in my past - unprofessionally of course, I had lots of experience to draw on. I also watched a few videos of Edinburgh’s Beltane Festival to get inspiration. I recommend watching some!

As usual, my characters continue to evolve, and it was great to see a bit more of Hunter and Dan in this story. I also wanted to explore El’s and Alex’s magic. In future stories we may see more of Alex’s family, and probably the other witches, too. I’m already thinking about plots.

Thanks again to Fiona Jayde Media for my awesome cover, and thanks to Kyla Stein at Missed Period Editing for applying her fabulous editing skills.

Thanks also to my beta readers, glad you enjoyed it; your feedback, as always, is very helpful!
