She belted out a scream into his chest, the sound of scraping came closer to the metal door again and Ace held her tighter. She just couldn't stop it. She loathed her little sister when she came home, but she came to fall in love with her. She had a personality that most people would kill for. She had a smile that lit up a room, she was a rainbow on a rainy day. She just…just was a ray of light. "I can't lose her…"
Ace was rubbing her back and leaned forward placing a soft kiss on the top of her head. "She's strong. She'll hang on for you to find her, she wants to give you peace Mina."
"How do you know?" She lifted her head, looking at him. Her eyes were red rimmed from crying and her face was a little puffy. "How do you know I'm not just using my powers to make you do what you're doing?" The questions kept falling from her mouth, she couldn't stop it.
Ace without warning, took her face into his hands he kept looking deep into her eyes. "I don't care what you are. You are perfect to me. I know you're not tricking me into anything. When I saw you come through the back door of your uncle’s gun shop, I knew I had to help you. I knew I couldn't leave your side. You're a strong woman…a beautiful woman. You opened up to me, told me what you are. A thief." He rubbed her cheek with his thumbs, "And a thief you are. Because Myrna, you stole my heart."
His warm lips touched Mina's and her body reacted. She could taste sweat, and him. He had his own flavor that she had never tasted before. Sweet, but spicy. Savory, and fruity. Most of all, her heart wouldn't stop flittering in her chest.
She returned the kiss, her hands pressing against his chest. He completely faced her. Her hands gripping the front of his uniform tighter. He broke the kiss to take a deep breath, but she attacked him again. Climbing on his lap, her body engulfed in a heat she never felt before. The ice that covered her heart was breaking and warming her up from the inside out.
Ace was the missing piece.
She wrapped her arms around his neck kissing him again. His hands held her waist, the tips of his fingers touching her side and running to her lower back. His fingertips were hot and searching for her. Mina felt her tongue dart out and touch his bottom lip.
He opened his mouth and accepted her invitation.
She tasted him even deeper, he was everything and more. An ambrosia for the gods and she was tasting sin. He pulled her closer to his body, she pressed against him perfectly. Her breasts heavy and swelling, he grabbed the hem of her shirt and lifted it.
She broke the kiss to let him. She sat before him with her shirt completely off, she reached behind her and unclasped her bra. Her large breasts fell, and she saw that his eyes never strayed, he kept looking deeply in her eyes.
Mina knew deep inside they didn't have time…but…
"Mina…" He breathed working at the front of his uniform. "We don't have much time—"
She helped him, her emotions overwhelming her. Like a pot ready to boil over. All she knew, was that her body was craving him, craving his touch, and not giving a damn about the world around her. Her brain kept screaming to let him in. To trust him completely—
"Fuck it." She breathed hard, ignoring the front of his uniform she worked at his belt. He reached down and helped her. He pulled his fatigues down and pulled his hardened self out of his boxers. She got off his lap and took her jean shorts off and nearly ripped her tights in half trying to get out of them.
Her body was on fire and begging to be touched and filled by Ace. She didn't know what it was and didn't care. All she saw was him, and the need, the lust…
She climbed back on top of him, moving her panties to the side. He had his hands on her hips, guiding her. When he pierced her, Mina took his face in her hands and dived deep into him, tasting his lips again. He was hard and throbbing deep inside her. Her knees were placed on the cot as she moved her hips.
All that echoed in the room was their rough breathing, they knew the monster was right outside the door, but their need for each other outweighed everything else.
He grabbed her waist and laid her down on the cot. Burying himself as deep as he could inside her. He was growing harder with each thrust. She felt him so deep inside her that she wanted to cry. Instead, she broke the kiss and buried her face into his chest as her nails dug into the cloth of his uniform. "Ace…" She breathed heavily.
He pressed his forehead against hers, his hips grinding deep inside her. She lifted her legs and wrapped them around his waist. He never once got rough with her, he was gentle and stroking that heat in the base of her belly.
It wasn't till he caressed her cheek and looked deep into her eyes did that heat spread to her chest. She took in a deep breath, the orgasm hitting its peak. He pushed himself inside her, whispering against her lips, "I love you."
Chapter Eight
She zipped her jean shorts up and looked at Ace who was already up and going through the other files. "Nothing in here about Nadine…I'm sorry Mina." He gave her a sad look and she smiled at him, but that smile disappeared as she raised her hand to quiet him.
She closed her eyes and listened intensely to the world around her, when nothing came, she sighed with relief. "I think it's gone." Mina still didn't speak above a whisper, instead she checked her gun and gave Ace a once over. Her cheeks were warm, and she felt better then she had in days. "Before we leave this room…I want to talk to you—"
"I shouldn't have followed through. I'm sorry. It was very ungentlemanly of me." He had a deep embarrassment on his face that made Mina giggle.
It was a girly giggle, something she's never done. It even caught her off guard. She corrected herself. "It's alright. Not the right place, or time. But I feel more…like myself now. Thank you…what I want to talk to you about is much more serious." She ran a hand through her hair, it was a deep nervousness that touched the surface. "If…if the time comes. I want you to activate me."
She watched his face blanch, and his lips tighten. "Mina…that's…that's dangerous. You've never been activated before. What if you can't—"
"Control it?" She closed her eyes for a moment before letting the breath out, "That's when you use my code word to control me. If that doesn't work…and I lose absolute control, use myself destruct code."
Ace went to her, taking her face into his hands and softly stroked her cheeks. "My darling, I would never do something like that to you. You're not a weapon. You're not a machine. You're a person—"
She grabbed his wrists and held him there, not looking away from him. "I mean it Ace. My code word is Bastet. I have full trust in you, I want to protect you with my very life. I want to get you, my sister and Lyle out of this city. So please—"
He placed a gentle kiss on her lips, "Alright…alright. I'll use it if there's no other option." Ace placed his forehead against hers. "We will get out of here no matter what. Your father and the company will pay."

They left the room not looking back. The truth was out there, Ace knew what she was, and Mina had unlocked memories she didn't even know she had. The creature that patrolled the area was gone—for the moment—and left deep lacerations in the concreate walls and deep indents in the metal doors.
They went to the elevator, the light above it was red. Next to the buttons was a keycard reader. She took her mother’s ID card and swiped it. The light quickly flashed green, and the doors opened. What was inside was a blood bath.
There were dead guards with a single gunshot wound in the center of their head. Ace went in first, and she followed. They hadn't been dead too long. But long enough.
The doors closed in front of them, and Mina felt her stomach heave. The elevator only went down to the third basement floor. She stabbed the button and watched the doors close. She was growing nervous with each passing second.
The longer they took, the further away her little sister and Lyle were. Ace broke the silence by speaking to her, "When we get out of here Mina, let’s leave this shitty place and get you a ring. I have a good amount of money saved up. And I mean what I said earlier,
we can all move to the mountains. You, me, Nadine…even Lyle if he wants. We can start over." The seriousness in his voice made Mina look at him.
He was smiling at her.
"You're not lying to me?"
He chuckled, "No I'm not. We all deserve a fresh start, away from this madness."
She looked away from him, "I'm implanted. They would know where I go. The company—"
"I'll shoot every single fucker that would come near you." He placed his hand on the back of her neck. "I'll make sure no one will ever take you away again."
She was about to reply when the door opened up.
In the furthest end of the corridor, there was one last elevator waiting to be used. Everything was quiet.
Too quiet.
The other doors surrounding them were electronically locked and the walls and floors were covered in blood. As the doors closed behind them, they could see the walls start to move in around them. "Somethings not right…" Mina whispered.
The elevator in front of them opened up, and she was face to face with her father, and little sister.
Chapter Nine
"Nadine!" Mina screamed, she broke through Ace's grip and ran to the elevator.
Nadine's red hair had become a greasy matted mess. Her head was lowered and there were blood stains all over her white dress. She was moving side to side, her body twitching. Her father stood behind Nadine with his hand on the back of her head. A gun pressed to her temple, "You come any closer Myrna, and I'll put a bullet through her brain before she finishes changing."
Mina paused; Ace was right behind her.
Alfred was a tall man, with dark blue/black hair. His eyes were a wide brown and filled with insanity. Deep crow’s feet lined them, with purple bags underneath it. He was a smaller man, lanky and his lab coat was covered in different stains. His lips lifted in a snarl. "How are you still not activated?! You should've been activated! All this fighting, the fatigue, every single test Minerva and I put you through and yet your body still refuses." He pushed Nadine forward and the young girl moaned, nearly tripping over her own two feet.
"Nadine!" Mina cried again, as she watched Nadine collapse. She wasted no time in running to her side.
Ace was about to follow her, but Alfred's cold voice cut through them both. "I think not." He narrowed his eyes at the pair, gritting his teeth. "There's only one final test to see if she's a true failure or not."
Alfred grabbed Nadine by the back of her dress and dragged her back to the elevator. Mina screamed as she scrambled to grab her little sister. At the sound of her scream, behind the locked doors things began to bang against them. Alfred, started to laugh. "I've seen everything. Even your little tryst with this…cop. Captain Bragg warned us about you Ace Wilder. You would be the troublesome one, who has a hero complex. So…" Within his hand he held a singular remote. "Myrna, this cop here has not received our vaccination. A single bite, or a single scratch from an infected creature will cause him to turn. Behind these doors, are thirty to forty of our test subjects." Alfred started to grin.
"And these test subjects range from different variations of the fungi, bacterium, and viral tests we have infected you with, Myrna. You are immune because you are our secret weapon. Would you let your lover activate you? To save yourself? Or would you allow yourself to be devoured by our failed experiments like this little shit?" He shook Nadine, who again moaned in distress. Alfred turned his attention back to the two and chortled. "This entire city was our lab, and everything and one in it our rats. Each one infected with a different strain of something or another. Just to see what would happen."
Mina stood, screaming, "You sick mother fucker!"
"Tsk. Tsk." He shook his head, "You shouldn’t say things like that, it's not lady like." He glanced at his wristwatch. "You have exactly three hours before the cleanup crew gets here. Then boom. This whole city goes up in flames. If you're not activated by then…well Mina, you'll die, one way or another."
She roared, "Why?! Why me?!"
Alfred looked at her through his eyelashes smirking, "You never had the choice. You were created in a lab, to be what we wanted you to be. When you reached that final stage, where you were able to feel emotions we let you out, to see how you reacted around actual humans. And you did well. Even Vinny took a liking to you." He sighed dreamily, "The Yellow Cat project was going to be the best yet…and even if you do manage to escape, the company will find you and bring you back."
Ace stepped up, holding his gun out, "Where's Lyle you sick fuck?!"
A sickening shine came over Alfred's eyes, "He's a…bit tied up right now."
A protectiveness came over Mina, "Give him to us Alfred. Now!"
"Ah…that's the problem. Your little sister here, Nadine? She needs to eat or else she'll starve." He leaned over and pressed the elevator button. In his free hand, he clicked the red button on the remote. "You better choose and choose quick Myrna."
As the elevator doors closed, the locked doors that surrounded them unlocked. The lights above them turned green, and the doors opened slowly. The moaning came all at once, as they fell through and into the hallway. Mina turned to Ace, "Run!" She screamed. "Get the hell out of here. Go back to the records room. I'll rescue Nadine and Lyle and meet you there!"
The terror in Ace's eyes made her want to fight even more, but the hoard was already growing and separating them. Ace was shooting, knocking one down, but another replaced it. "Ace! Go!" She screamed again.
He allowed himself one second to look at her, a look of retaliation came through the fear, and on the top of his lungs, he screamed: "Bastet!"
◆◆◆
Her brain clicked. Her blood went hot. Her body shifted from hot to cold.
Hot.
To.
Cold.
Her brain became fuzzy.
A static mess.
She collapsed on the concreate floor.
Everything inside turned over. Like someone flipped a switch.
Her breathing became heavier.
Her heart labored.
Her muscles grew larger, stronger…
Mina screamed louder at the ground. Digging her nails into the concreate floor. The sheer strength caused it to break underneath her. Her scream turned into a shriek as she lifted her head. The creatures around her thrummed, vibrated. She could see them in much higher definition then she had ever before.
Everything around her had shifted from colored, to negative.
All around her each thing had an outline around it, and all that she could even think of, was one thing: blood.
She got to her feet, wobbling in place. Ace. Nadine. Tests. Failure. Blood…blood…tasty…yummy…
Her thoughts were a scrambled mess.
She had her head lowered, feeling her temples throb harder. Victory. Bastet. Nadine. Nadine? Mountains…Ace…Ace?!
She reached up to her head and screamed even louder, the scream causing the room to vibrate around her. She closed her eyes so tight that she saw floating negative spots behind her eyelids. Ace! Ace said codeword!
Mina took in a sharp breath.
◆◆◆
They were getting too close, no matter how many he took down another one came right up after it. Ace tossed out his empty clip and replaced it with another. The smell of gunpowder and blood tickled his nose.
He was backing up with each step, the gun jumping in his hands with each shot. Ace's breath came in sharp gasps, there were too many of them—
A long screech—
He didn't have the chance to even look away, Ace watched hands come forward. Everything flashed before his eyes, his dreams to have a better life with Mina outside of this shit, to raise a family, to marry her—
"Mina! Mina help me!"

"Mina! Mina help me!"
Ace needs help! Her eyes snapped open; everything was back in color. But the undead were surrounding him, and he was trying to reload.
Mina was quick on her feet. Running r
ight in between the test subjects easily shoving them out of her way. She knocked them away from Ace, she could feel their squishy flesh underneath her hands as she reached out and grabbed their heads, breaking their necks with ease.
There was a strength in her she had never had before, Ace bellowed out a cry. And she turned to him. One of them had him pinned against the wall, his gun was by his side. Mina reached out and grabbed the creature by the head. She faced the undead eyes and screamed in its face. She twisted the head around and pulled.
It popped off like a cap.
The body fell to the concreate ground, and she screamed again. The bright color of blood made her feel the victory of battle. She turned her attention to the others.
They were coming.
And she had so much pent-up rage.
"FUCKERS!" She roared.
Mina grabbed her survival knife from her thigh, tossing it from hand to hand before attacking. She grabbed one of their heads pulled them down and stabbed them in the temple.
Over.
And over.
More bodies fell around her.
Blood covered her body and she had never felt so free in her life. The taste of battle. The taste of war—
"Mina…" Heavy breathing.
She turned snarling. Covered head to toe in blood—
Mina attacked, tackling Ace down to the floor pinning him down a deep growl came from her throat. It wasn't till she felt the warmth, and smell of fresh—human—blood that she paused.
"Mina…" He groaned; he was breathing heavier. There was a distinct rattle in his lungs—
She pulled away, her brain cooling down. Mina looked at her hand and could smell it. The blood that was there, wasn't the undead. It was Ace's. The rage of battle leaked from her system, and she went into action, taking her day bag off her back and started digging around for the medical kit. "Mina…" He called again.
