Soul Riders (Book 1)

But it was too late to turn back now.
Alex clutched the reins tightly. She felt like she was about to pass out but urged Tin-Can on toward Cape Point. He studied her skeptically before obeying her command.
“Bye!” Linda called out as she turned and headed toward Pine Hill.
“Bye!” Alex called back. She wiped a stubborn tear from her cheek.
They continued calling to each other, their voices bouncing back and forth over the bushes and trees. The sound of Alex’s voice grew fainter and fainter until it disappeared.
The silence that followed the last, waning echo was the scariest thing Linda had ever heard. A person could drown in this silence, she thought to herself. She started thinking about her favorite poems, historical battles, the multiplication table, whatever could keep her thoughts occupied. It was going to be a long journey.
Many miles away, Lisa had abandoned her lookout post at the top of the water tower and was standing outside the Dark Core facility. She had observed and mapped out the shift changes of the men and women in green coming and going. She had spent her nights at a nearby hostel. Every day, Lisa had returned to her post as soon as the sun had come up. Now it was time to act. Starshine might be in there. Mr. Sands hadn’t left the place, as far as she could tell. The helicopter was still there. Lisa crept around the fence. She had earlier made a trip into Jorvik City to buy the biggest set of bolt cutters she could find.
It was time to get a look at Dark Core from the inside.
Even farther away, at a distance so great it opened up new worlds and dimensions, Anne heard Concorde calling to her. He was inside her like a glowing light. She could hear his thoughts. He was afraid, but he knew she was coming for him.
“I’m on my way!” Anne said, and this time, she knew it was true.
How many small, seemingly insignificant things had led the four Soul Riders to where they were right now? How many trail rides, evenings at the stables, jumping competitions, homework assignments, arguments, and whispered secrets? Was this what it was all leading to? Was it always going to be the four of them, even before they knew each other?
And now they were each on their own way. Soon, they would act. Separately, yet always together, the four of them. On their way to something far greater than they could possibly imagine. And they all carried each other with them along that journey.
A rumbling was heard through time and space as Anne approached Pandoria.
The time is now.
