Chapter 1. Dad Walks in on You

“Oh, fuck,” Dylan said, closing his eyes. He knew he would cum soon. Natasha was riding on top of him, looking naughty. She had a broad smile, her blond hair framing her gorgeous face, her shiny blue eyes showing how much she enjoyed that too. Dylan didn’t want to cum just now, he’d planned a lot for them to do, but he thought he wouldn’t be able to help it.

He slapped Natasha’s bouncy boobs, and then grabbed it, closing his eyes again. It was coming… it was coming… he would do it…

  “DYLAN, WHAT THE FUCK?”

He looked around, startled, Natasha already on the bed by his side, pulling the sheet on top of her, so she could cover herself. Dylan’s heart got to his mouth, feeling a sudden urge to throw up.

  “Dad?”

His dad was by the door. Dylan was almost a copy of him but younger. The father had the same green eyes with dark circles under it as if neither of them had slept well.

“What the fuck is going on, Dylan? Who’s she? What are you all doing here? It’s my house, for god’s sake!” his father yelled. He was so angry his face had gone red. Dylan also covered himself with the sheets.

“Michael? What…?” they heard a woman’s voice coming from the hall.

“Go away, Nicolle, now!” Michael shrieked.

“Who is Nicolle?” Dylan asked, looking at the door.

“What does it matter? Who is she?” he pointed at Natasha.

“It’s my… friend,” Dylan said, looking at her, who had her eyebrows raised, wide-eyes and an open mouth, in the world’s most embarrassed and surprised face.

“Dylan, I want to talk to you in private. NOW!”

“Okay, okay, dad, but can you leave for a sec? Or do you want to see me naked?”

“Watch how you talk to me,” he said, but went out of the door, smashing it shut. Dylan looked at Natasha, wishing a hole would open and devour him. His face was contorted in an expression of sheer horror.

“I’m so sorry,” Dylan said. Natasha nodded, quickly, opening her usual broad smile.

“It’s all right, it wasn’t the first time that happened to me,” Natasha said, sitting up. Then, she started laughing about the situation. Dylan felt his heart rushing, not able to stop himself from laughing too.

Natasha gave him a peck on the lips, and jumped out of bed, grabbing her scattered clothes. “Don’t worry about me. I’ll get a taxi home. Is he too mean?”

“No. Sometimes,” Dylan said, nervous. “It’s okay, he’ll only scream with me or something. Again, I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. I’ll see you back at school, all right? We can finish our business in private there,” Natasha said and blinked. Dylan bent down, grabbed his black boxers, and started putting it on, slowly, dreading the following moment when he would have to face his dad.

“I’ll take you downstairs,” he said, and Natasha smiled. She was almost fully dressed, wearing a cropped black shirt that showed her belly. She finished buttoning her jeans, hiding her red lingerie below it.

Dylan’s dad was still by the door, waiting, like a dragon ready to spit fire. Dylan ignored his look, but the girl stared at the man, smiling, daring as always. Dylan was so nervous that he didn’t even realize that. They went to the door, kissed, and he asked:

“Are you sure you don’t want me to wait for the taxi here with you?”

“It’s all right, honey. You have to deal with your daddy,” she said, in a mocking tone.

“Ugh,” Dylan answered, smiling. He closed the door and Michael Fleck was looking at him from the top of the stairs, wearing a suit, which made his shoulders look broader and threatening.

“Okay, look, dad, I’m sorry,” Dylan said, while he started going upstairs.

“The problem was not that you brought a girl home,” Mr. Fleck said. “The problem is that you didn’t let me know. And that was my bed!”

“How would I know you’d be coming home? You’re never around!” Dylan exclaimed although he was still staring at his feet. Mr. Fleck frowned.

“Next time you come here, I want you to let me know beforehand,” he said. “And who is that girl again?”

“I told you, she’s my friend.”

  “Your friend? Only that?"

“Yeah, dad! Only that!” Dylan said, raising his voice.

“Just because you’re now in college, don’t you dare talk to me like that.”

“Sorry, sir…” Dylan murmured. He desperately wanted to go away. “I think I’ll go to campus now, then.”

“No. Come here,” Mr. Fleck said and started walking down the hall. Dylan resisted an overpowering wish of rolling his eyes. But he went with him. It would be worse if he disobeyed.

They walked to another bedroom. Another one. The mansion had over ten. Dylan couldn’t stand that either. The fact that his dad had a mansion, but he didn’t even live there. A woman was sitting on the bed, on her phone. She looked up when she saw them. The first thing Dylan noticed was the collar on her neck. It was like a dog collar, black leather and a ring in front of it. She had long black hair and brown eyes. In Chayl, it was uncommon to have vanilla relationships. It was expected that everyone engaged in BDSM.

“Nicolle, this’s Dylan, my son,” Mr. Fleck said.

“Hello,” Dylan said and realized how hoarse he was. “Where’s mom?”

Mr. Fleck got red on the cheeks. He laughed, like that was funny, and looked away, getting closer to the shelves, as if it had got suddenly very attractive.

“How would I know, Dylan? You know that your mom doesn’t talk to me,” he said, touching the books.

“I thought you two were trying again.”

“Not for months now. I don’t want to talk about that.”

“So, let me go, then,” Dylan said, folding his arms and shaking his head.

“I want to talk to you about the Junction Year.”

Now, Dylan couldn’t help but roll his eyes. He wanted to leave very, very bad. He made a mental note of never coming back unless his dad forced him to. He had already made that mental note many times, every summer, when he had to leave the boarding school and go back home. When he got older, he started to spend the summer in Oliver’s home, his best friend. Oliver’s parents weren’t troubled billionaires, and they were still together. They were also tough with discipline, like all parents of Chayl, but at least they loved their children.

The Junction Year was Government policy. The Government controlled everything about Chayl and its citizens. When they got to the last year of college, they were required to have a partner to share life. If they didn’t, they were randomly joined with someone. And they better make it work. Everyone graduated with a partner and a job. That was the Law.

“Dad, I’m still in the first year,” Dylan said, sitting on the bed next to Nicolle.

“It’s the second term already! Do you think is easy to find a life-matching partner?”

“Definitely not. I see you didn
’t,” Dylan said.

His father slapped his face. Nicolle moved away with wide eyes, Dylan got startled, the pain rising to his cheek, and he felt tears in his eyes. His dad continued as nothing had happened:

“You must have a kid with your partner from the Junction Year. It’s the Law. You know that.”

Dylan started feeling the bitterness overpower him. The Junction Year was the reason his parents hated each other since he was a kid. That was the reason he didn’t have any other siblings. Every couple was obliged by the government to have a child and then, after that, they could split up, even though it was very unusual to get to this point. His parents stayed together to keep up appearances. It was very frowned upon to end your marriage. And Michael would do anything to keep the appearance of a happy family. Chayl was like that because it was made of a totalitarian government that wanted to control the families. Control the families, you control society. They sent him to a boarding school, like all the other kids from Chayl, also on government orders. The government didn’t want the family to educate the children. They wanted official education upon all.

Dylan realized he was daydreaming, but his dad was still talking nonstop.

“Okay, dad. I promise that I’ll try harder to find someone,” Dylan said, interrupting him.

Michael looked at him, raising an eyebrow.

“You better, boy. You better otherwise I’ll cut you off. No more money.”

  “What?!”

“You heard me. You better find someone SOON, otherwise, no more money!”

“But I need the money… I don’t work, I need to dedicate to studying…” Dylan said, sounding rather desperate.

“Yeah, as if you were a really good student. Listen to me, you better get someone soon, otherwise, goodbye credit card.”

  “Fine.”

Dylan was feeling pretty miserable on the ride back home. The taxi driver was listening to an old blues song, which made the ride even more nostalgic. He wanted to run away. His biggest nightmare was to end up like his parents. And, each passing day, he saw that he was closer to that. A sad marriage, a sad job, obeying the Government like a good citizen.

  Chapter 2. Alone

Dylan didn’t go to his own apartment. He lived with the school “Elite”, the smartest boys on campus. And the Elite didn’t like him there. They wanted another one of their elite friends as a roommate. But they got Dylan. So, Dylan spent most of his time in apartment 39, where his best friends, and Natasha, lived.

He opened the door without knocking. The apartment had gray walls, brown carpet, old dusty sofas but it felt like home. Lucy, Oliver’s girlfriend, had put pictures of them on the wall, they had cushions and blankets on the sofas to make it cozier, and to top it off, it smelled great, Lucy always lighted up scented candles. It was the closest to a home Dylan ever had.

“Hello?! Is anyone home?!” Dylan called. Only the kitchen’s light was on, and the living room remained dark. Maybe no one was there, and this thought made him feel even more alone.

“Hey, bro!” he heard and got startled by the sudden noise, his heart rushing, but he opened up a big smile when he saw Oliver’s face coming from the hall. Oliver had short copper hair since he was in the military, and green eyes. He was much taller than Dylan, and his body much more defined, since he exercised for a living.

“Where are you going?” Dylan asked, looking Oliver up and down. Oliver was wearing cologne, a fancy blue sweater, and khaki pants.

“It’s date night with Lucy. She’s in the bedroom getting ready.”

“All right,” Dylan said, the resentment echoing in his voice, while he turned to enter the kitchen. He grabbed a box of mac and cheese from the top of the fridge. Oliver frowned, realizing something was wrong, so he followed him and put a hand on his shoulder.

  “What’s up, bro?”

  “It’s nothing.”

“Natasha told us that your dad walked in on you,” Oliver said, serious, but Dylan laughed at how concerned he was.

  “What? She told you already?”

“Yeah. That’s rough, man,” Oliver said.

  “Terrible!” Dylan exclaimed, dramatic.

“I’m sorry,” Oliver said, in a sincere voice, right when Lucy showed up.

“Dylan!” she exclaimed. They were also best friends. Oliver and Lucy were dating since they were teens in the boarding school. She was a cute small girl, with long dark hair, and dark eyes. She was wearing a blue dress, a bow on her head, and a collar on her neck. It reminded Dylan of dad’s new girlfriend.

“Hi, sweetie,” Dylan said, and they hugged. Then, she went back to Oliver. He kissed her head, hugging her with one arm.

“Dylan… what’s wrong?” Lucy asked, frowning. She was looking like a little princess, with rosy cheeks and red lipstick.

“Nothing, babe,” Dylan said, pouring the pasta in the water. He sighed, thinking that dinner was almost as sad as his life.

“Look, Dy, we can all stay here and watch some movies, or something like that.”

“No, of course not, man, I won’t ruin your date night,” Dylan said, shaking his head. “It’s all right, all fine. Really, you’d make me feel worse.”

“Are you sure?” Lucy asked, even if she didn’t know what had happened.

“Totally, definitely,” Dylan said, forcing a smile. “Just go already!”

“Okay, man. We’ll be back soon,” Oliver said, and Dylan nodded.

“Thanks, bro,” Dylan said while they headed to the door.

Soon they left, and he was alone again. He kept staring at the mac and cheese, feeling sad. He finished cooking it, wondering where Natasha would be. Last term, they had the biggest fight because Natasha didn’t want a relationship and Dylan kept trying to control her. He had learned his lesson. He wouldn’t dare to ask her where she was. They were only friends, after all.

Dylan sat on the dinner table by the sofas and ate a forkful of his dinner. It had an industrial taste, but he had nothing better to eat. He started thinking Natasha was right. The Junction Year was ridiculous. Natasha didn’t want a relationship because she said she wouldn’t accept to be with anyone just because the Government imposed it. Maybe Dylan should do the same, even if that probably meant jail. But he was too soft for jail, he wouldn’t last one day there, he knew it.

Julian, their other roommate, got out of his bedroom. He looked startled at Dylan, not expecting him to be there. Julian had tattoos, short black hair, and wore glasses. He loved sports and looked tough, but he was shy and nerdy.

“Hey!” Dylan exclaimed, cheerful. He didn’t like to be alone. Julian looked weirdly embarrassed and said nothing. Suddenly, Carl got out of his bedroom.

Carl was Dylan’s roommate back at their apartment. He was from the Elite group and he wasn’t exactly fond of Dylan, even though Dylan was the one that helped Julian and him be together last term. Julian had never experienced a BDSM relationship until he tried it with Carl.

Carl was tall, had brown skin, a perfectly groomed beard, and he also wore glasses.

“What’s up?” Carl asked, without smiling.

“Hey,” Dylan said. “You two are here.”

“Obviously,” Carl snapped. Dylan smiled, even though he felt an urge to punch Carl in the face.

“Dylan! I didn’t know you were coming home today… well, but I guess that’s good, right, honey?” Julian said. “I was meaning to ask you if we could swap beds for the night. Like, you sleep here with Natasha and I sleep there with Carl. If that’s okay,” Julian said, hesitantly. Julian was Natasha’s roommate. They swapped beds frequently since both had started going out with the other’s roommate.

“Sure, man,” Dylan said, even though he really wanted to say no. “Where’s Natasha?”

“I’m not sure. I think she went to a party or something. But she might come home later,” Julian said, while they were walking towards the door. “Thanks a lot, man!”

“Bye,” Carl said, uninterested. Dylan said nothing, he ju
st nodded.

He finished his mac and cheese, feeling lonelier than ever. His shoulders were hurting from the tension and he thought he needed a long bath. He loved bubble baths and he hadn’t had one in a while. Actually, the last time was with Natasha…

He washed the dishes fantasizing with that and went to the couch in the dark living room, not even considering turning on the lights. Everyone had somewhere to go, except for him. He knew many people, but he didn’t consider them friends. He felt left out. It was Friday night, everyone he knew was out having fun, and he was alone in a dark living room, with nowhere to go, no one to be with.

Drowning in self-pity, he turned on the TV to watch another mind-numbing show. It was when his phone rang. For a moment, he thought it could be Natasha. She would ask him to hang out. His heart fell when he saw his dad’s number flashing on the screen. He sighed loudly. He didn’t want to pick it up, but what other choice did he have?

“Hi,” Dylan said, putting the phone on his ear.

“Son. Hello. I’m calling to ask you to come over tomorrow.”

  “Why?”

“I want you to meet someone. I won’t let you alone in this journey to the Junction Year.”

  Dylan couldn’t believe that.

“No way, dad. See, it’s okay. I’ll find someone, I told you,” Dylan said, feeling the anger rising. His dad didn’t give up.

“Just come over and you’ll understand. Don’t worry, okay, son? I just want the best for you, kiddo, and I’ll help. Promise me you’ll come.”

“…I…I’ll see about that,” Dylan stuttered, knowing he couldn’t disobey his dad. Wanting him or not, if his dad ordered him to go, he would have to go. That’s how it worked in Chayl. He also needed his dad’s money.

  “Great! See you tomorrow, then!”

Dylan hung up. He didn’t believe that was happening. Going there again was the last thing he wanted to do. He sighed, dropping the phone on the sofa and looking at the TV. He tried to focus on the stupid show, struggling to clear his mind from the anxiety and the fear of missing out until he ended up falling asleep.
