“I thought you were hurt.”
“I know, honey. But I’m good.”
“Why does this Taxi person want you? Specifically? And what’s going to happen to Jette? She’s not safe.”
“She’s safe,” he stressed.
He was repeating a lot of the same things he’d said when we were in Doc’s office, but it wasn’t sinking in yet.
“A lot of people know who she is!”
“Baby, she’s covered. I swear to god.”
“You need to wear a necklace like mine.”
He rolled his eyes. “Not wearin’ a fuckin’ necklace, Parker. You need to quit spiralin’.”
“Stop telling me to stop spiraling! You were taken!” I screeched. “Hooded, drugged, and fucking taken from me. Practically before my eyes, and I couldn’t do anything about it. It’s like the explosion all over again.”
I suddenly couldn’t breathe.
“Fuck,” Rabbit hissed. “Baby, slow your breaths. I need you not to hyperventilate.”
I sobbed into his chest. “I can’t lose you. I won’t survive it.”
He lifted me in his arms and sat in the chair by the window, pulling me close. “You’re not going to lose me.”
“I didn’t know where you were for four hours, Zane. Four hours of terror,” I sobbed. “Even Alamo and Doom were freaked, and you know they have steel trapped emotions.”
“Okay, baby, it’s okay. I got you.”
“You’re gonna wear a fuckin’ bell,” I growled.
“We’ll figure something out, Pebbles. Whatever you want, okay? As long as it’s not a necklace.”
“I’m gonna fucking put a chip in your neck.”
I heard him sigh. “That might be a little extreme.”
“I don’t care.” I burrowed into his neck. “I can’t ever lose you.”
“You won’t,” he whispered. “I promise.”
“Cock ring.”
Rabbit snorted. “You want to put a tracker in a cock ring and keep me hard at all times?”
“Oh, is that what a cock ring’s for? I get to know where you are and the bonus of your cock always at the ready for me?” I asked. “I’m in.”
“You feelin’ a little better?”
I nodded, kissing his pulse. “Yes, but don’t let me go yet.”
“Wouldn’t dream of it.” Rabbit gave me a squeeze, then asked me, “You feel like gettin’ somethin’ to eat?”
“Tequila.”
“We can definitely get tequila.”
I nodded. “Okay. But first, you have to tell me what’s happening tomorrow.”
“That’s not gonna happen, baby. And please don’t fight me on that. I’ve already told you more than I should and I’m gonna hear about it tomorrow when I’m alone.”
I sat up with a gasp. “What do you mean you’re gonna hear about it tomorrow?”
“I shouldn’t have pulled you into that meeting with Doc.”
I pushed off his lap and crossed my arms. “Like hell you shouldn’t have.”
Rabbit leaned forward, settling his elbows to his thighs. “All of that was club business, not to mention, super secret government business, and Taxi was insistent that only Doc would know what was happening. You were not part of that deal.”
“There’s no way Doc would expect you to keep that from me.”
“You don’t think?”
“He tells Olivia what’s going on.”
“Not all of it, but he’s prez and she’s his old lady. She’s been around for a long time. I’m a soldier, essentially, a nobody.”
I threw my hands in the air. “You’re not a nobody.”
“Baby, I am. It’s not a bad thing,” he said. “I’m a member, but I’m not an officer, so I’m low on the totem pole. I’m fine with that. I still need to pay my dues.” He rose to his feet and wrapped his arms around me. “I tell you more than I should. I’ll own that, because you’re my best friend, but you need to keep this emotional shit locked down. Lose it with me. Lose it with Jazz and Willow, but never lose it in front of their men, and don’t ever repeat what I tell you to anyone. I don’t know what Alamo and Dash tell your besties, honey. You need to keep that between us.”
“So, I can’t say anything about Taxi?”
He raised an eyebrow. “I’m assuming that’s a rhetorical question.”
I wrinkled my nose. “Is Doc really going to keep all this from them?”
“I don’t know what Doc’s gonna do, but it’s not my call. It’s his.” He lifted my chin. “And, hear me on this, I trust him to make the right call.”
I closed my eyes. “I don’t know if I can keep this from Willow and Jazz.”
“You have to.”
“I know.” I nodded into his chest. “It’s just going to be really, really hard.”
“I get it, Pebbles. Swear to god, I do.”
I gripped his cut. “I want to meet this Taxi asshole.”
“You can’t. You’re not supposed to know he exists.”
“This is total bullshit.”
“I know.” He sighed. “We’ll figure it out.”
“This Taxi guy isn’t really gonna make you inform for the FBI, is he?”
“Don’t look at it as informing, Pebbles. Doc’s onboard, mostly because Dalton—”
“Who the hell is this Dalton guy?”
“He’s a friend to the club. And a friend to me, so I trust him. He’s got my back.”
“Oh, really?” I challenged. “So, he was the one who allowed you to be hooded, drugged, and kidnapped?”
“Well, no, but I’d bet you twenty bucks, he’ll call me tomorrow with an apology.” As if on cue, his phone buzzed in his pocket, and he slid it out. “Speak of the devil. Don’t make a sound,” he said, then answered the call. “Rabbit.”
“Jesus Christ, you okay?” Dalton asked.
I bit my lip to keep from making a sound.
“Yeah. Slight headache from the ketamine, but other than that, I’m fine,” Rabbit said.
“Shit. Sorry, man,” Dalton said. “I bet you’re ready to kill Taxi.”
“Plead the fifth on that one.”
“I’m personally gonna have a conversation with him about his procedures,” Dalton said. “This won’t happen again.”
“I’d very much appreciate that,” Rabbit said. “Did you talk to Doc?”
“Yeah,” Dalton said. “We’ll debrief tomorrow.”
“Okay, brother, I appreciate that.”
“Again, I’m sorry,” Dalton said.
“It’s done,” Rabbit said, although, I wasn’t feeling much like it was done.
“We’ll talk tomorrow,” Dalton said again, then hung up.
I wrinkled my nose. “It’s not really done, is it?”
“It will be,” he promised. “Let’s go get some food.”
I nodded and followed him downstairs to find my girls had arrived and rushed me.
“Holy shit,” Jasmine said. “You okay?”
“No,” I admitted. “But I will be.”
“I got your text earlier, but Gator was with me and wouldn’t let me come,” Willow disclosed.
“Same edict from Mo,” Jasmine said. “So, something major must have been going down.”
“Yeah, but no one will tell me anything,” I lied, my stomach roiling as I did.
I had never been good at lying, and this nearly killed me.
“Well, they do that,” Jasmine said, her tone irritated.
“Welcome to the club,” Willow said, and I grimaced.
“I’d like to change the subject now,” I said, and forced a smile. “Tequila?”
“Tequila,” Jasmine agreed, and we headed to the bar.
“Can you give us a second, Jazz?” Willow asked, grabbing my hand. “Be right back.”
“I’ll get shots,” Jasmine offered, and Willow pulled me into the empty bunkroom.
“How long was Rabbit gone?”
“Four hours,” I said.
She pulle
d me in for a hug. “That must have been terrifying.”
“Very.”
“Well, I know you know what’s going on—”
“Will—”
“You don’t have to tell me, but I know that Rabbit filled you in because he always fills you in.” She met my eyes and smiled gently. “You’re also as bad a liar as I am.”
I sighed. “I wish I could tell you.”
“I know, honey, but we get it.”
“Jasmine hates being lied to.”
“She’ll get over it.”
I bit my lip. “I hope so.”
Willow grinned. “Come on, let’s go find that tequila.”
I nodded and followed her back out to the great room. Rabbit found me, wrapping an arm tight around my waist and kissing my temple. He stayed close all night, and I appreciated that more than he could possibly know.
I took two shots of tequila, then sipped a margarita for the rest of the night. I just wasn’t in the mood to get wasted. I was also working something out in my head, and I wanted to be clear.
When Doc came over to check on me, things clicked. Every single man in the room wore some kind of ring. Most of them were skull rings of some form, and chunky in nature. I faced Rabbit and gripped his cut. “Your ring.”
“My ring?”
“Your skull ring. You can put a tracker in it.”
“It’s too small, baby.”
“You can create something.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Not really my forté,” he admitted.
“Figure it out,” I said. “For me.”
He sighed, leaning down to kiss me quickly. “I’ll see what I can do.”
I frowned. “Are you saying that so I’ll stop talking?”
He chuckled. “I would never.”
“Hmm-mm,” I hummed.
“You ready for bed?”
“Yeah,” I said. “I’m exhausted.”
“Me too, Pebbles. Let’s head up.”
I nodded, and after saying goodnight to our friends, we made our way to bed.

Rabbit
The next morning, I was summoned to Doc’s office before Parker was even awake. I pulled on clothes, left a note for her, then headed downstairs. Walking into Doc’s office, I expected to see Dalton Moore, but Doc was alone.
“Where’s Dalt?” I asked, closing the door.
“We’re meetin’ in neutral territory. But you and I need to chat before that.”
I nodded, sitting in the chair facing his desk.
“I’m not happy you pulled Parker into my office last night. I get it, but don’t fuckin’ pull that shit again.”
I sighed. “Yeah. I hear ya.”
“I also know you didn’t tell me everything.” Doc tapped his fingers on his desk. “Now’s a good time to fill me in on whatever you haven’t disclosed.”
“This Taxi guy’s got other clubs on the hook.”
“Other clubs?” Doc frowned. “Which other clubs?”
“The Jokers, Howlers, and Saints. He plans to talk to Hatch when he’s in Portland next month as well. I told him I wouldn’t deal with him unless he helped us wrap up this Beast shit.”
“You didn’t think to pass that by me before you made any deal with this asshole?” Doc snapped.
“I apologize,” I growled. “I was a little groggy from the fuckin’ ketamine.”
“You should have—”
“Goddammit, Doc, I didn’t have a whole lotta options!”
Before Doc could unload on me, his office door opened, and Doom walked in. “We talked about this,” he said.
“You’re not the fuckin’ prez, Doom,” Doc challenged.
“So, no coffee yet, then?”
“Fuck you,” Doc snapped.
“I don’t need you to fight my battles for me, brother,” I said to Doom, then turned to Doc, raising an eyebrow. “You shared?”
“Doom and Alamo.”
“You weren’t supposed to fuckin’ tell anyone,” I bellowed.
“I’m not leavin’ my two closest brothers outta this, Rabbit.”
“You gonna tell Dalton you’ve disclosed to them?”
“No, I’m not gonna tell Dalt. We’re gonna handle this like we’re onboard.” Doc sighed. “Not sure we’re onboard, though, hear me on that.”
“Well, I’m fuckin’ onboard,” I said. “I want this beast shit dealt with, and I want my sister protected.”
“Take it down a notch,” Doom warned.
“Jesus Christ, Doom, if it were Lyric, you’d do the same goddamn thing.”
“Yeah, but freakin’ out right now is gonna make you lose focus,” he reminded.
I dragged my hands through my hair and nodded.
“What’s the play with Dalton?” Doom asked Doc.
“Haven’t figured that out yet.” Doc leaned forward. “We’re meetin’ him at the Bike Rack at three-thirty. You good with that?”
I nodded. “Just gotta lock Parker down.”
“Alamo and I will be here,” Doom said. “Lyric’s comin’ with Sterling in about an hour. I think Jazz and Alamo are already here.”
“Okay. We’ll head out at three?”
“Yeah, brother,” Doc said.
“Okay,” I said. “You need anything else?”
“No, I’m good.”
I rose to my feet and walked out of his office, heading back upstairs to my woman.
Parker
Hearing Rabbit scream in pain, I pushed open the hospital room door to total horror. His skin was being scraped with a wire brush and despite his best efforts, Rabbit couldn’t stop himself from calling out in pain. Doc was beside the bed, obviously there for moral support only, considering, he wasn’t doing any of the scraping.
He caught my eye and shook his head. “Get her the fuck out!”
“Rabb—”
“Get. Her. Out.”
Doc rushed for me and gently guided me out of the room.
“What are they doing to him?” I demanded, my eyes leaking with the tears I was desperately trying to hold back.
“I know it looks bad, sweetheart, but he’s getting the best care here. I can’t tell you what they’re doing because Rabbit wants it kept from you.”
“He’s in so much pain,” I sobbed, letting Doc pull me into his arms.
“I know, Parker. We’re getting him to a place where he won’t be.”
“What can I do? I need to do something.”
“Just be ready for when he comes home,” he said gently. “He’s gonna need you then more than ever.”
“Why won’t he let me be with him now?” I rasped.
“Don’t fuckin’ know, sweetheart. I don’t like it, but I gotta respect his wishes.”
I nodded.
“What are you doin’ here, Parker?”
I bit my lip. “I had a delivery.”
“You do your own deliveries? To the burn unit?”
“Just right now, and only when it’s to the hospital,” I admitted. “He won’t let me see him, so I had to improvise.”
I burst into tears again, and Doc hugged me again. “I get it. We’ve got him. I promi—”
I felt the bed dip, the motion thankfully awakening me from my nightmare, and I rolled over to see Rabbit dressed and stretching out beside me. “Where were you?”
“Quick meetin’ with Doc. You okay? You were whimpering.”
“Bad dream.” I forced my eyes open. “What time is it?”
“Nine.”
I groaned, sliding my hand over his belly and snuggling close to him. “Why so early?”
“Logistics. What was your dream about?”
I kissed his chest. “Just remembering the day you yelled at me to get out of the room when they were doing the scraping stuff.”
“Jesus,” he hissed. “Do you remember that often?”
“No. I think it came back last night because of how scared I was.”
“I’m sorry, honey,” he said.

; “It’s okay. I’m just glad you’re here and safe. Are you going to tell me about the logistics?”
“Just figuring out coverage, and meetings and shit.”
“Coverage? What kind of coverage, Zane?”
He shook his head.
“What aren’t you telling me?” I asked.
“Babe—”
I sat up and met his eyes. “Who’s watching the shop?”
“Shadow and Mouse.”
“Until I get there, right?”
“No, baby, all day. You’re locked down.”
I scrambled up on my knees. “I knew it.”
He slid one hand up my thigh, settling his head on his other hand.
“Why am I locked down?” I asked.
“Just until we get this shit sorted. It shouldn’t be long.”
I narrowed my eyes. “That’s not what I asked.”
“You could use a day off, right?”
“No,” I countered. “I’m good. It’s only Thursday.”
“You gonna fight me on this?” he asked.
I sighed, crossing my arms. “No. I’ll let this one go, but don’t get used to my easy-going nature. I won’t always be this flexible.”
Rabbit chuckled, tugging me on top of him. “I’ll keep that in mind.”
“How long do I have you?”
“Until about two,” he said. “Why?”
“Well, I have the day off, apparently, and I’d like my husband to make it worth my while.” I sat up again and pulled my cami over my head. “Can you do that?”
He grinned, lunging for me and guiding me to my back, sucking a nipple into his mouth, then biting down gently. “I’m gonna make it so fuckin’ worth your while, wife.”
I wove my fingers into his hair as he kissed his way down my body, removing my panties and tonguing my clit.
I arched into his mouth as he slid two fingers inside of me, sucking my clit as he pumped his hand against my pussy, the occasional slap to my sensitive skin nearly making me come. I whimpered as his fingers hit my G-spot, and then his thumb was on my clit and I came. Hard.
Before I could come down off the wave, he was naked and sliding his cock into me and I was cresting once again. Linking his fingers with mine, he dragged my hands above my head, keeping my arms pinned as he slammed into me. With his free hand, he rolled a nipple between his fingers before sliding down to finger my clit.
“Don’t come,” he ordered as he buried himself deep.
“Then quit fuckin’ with my clit.”
