by Mari Carr

  “Oh my God. It’s beautiful.”

“It was my grandmother’s. I inherited it after she passed but never thought I’d give it to anyone.”

He took the box from her and slipped the ring out, sliding it onto her finger. It was a perfect fit.

Adele sniffled. “A few minutes ago, I seriously didn’t think I could feel any happier. You just proved me wrong.”

He stood, tugging her into his embrace, the two of them simply holding onto each other, soaking in each other’s scent, warmth.

Porter kissed her again. “Come on. We better go to bed so Santa can get here.”

Adele took his hand and turned toward the bedroom. She stopped after just one step, then rushed to the front window. “He already came,” she exclaimed. “Look!”

Porter followed her and glanced out the window. “Well, how about that?”

  “Snow. It’s snowing.”

Porter wrapped his arms around her, resting his chin on the top of her head as the two of them stared out into the night, watching the white flakes falling, blanketing the ground.

They shared a grin, their eyes meeting in their reflections in the window.

  “No more waiting,” he murmured.

“The perfect Christmas. I got everything I’ve ever wanted.”

He tightened his hold and kissed her cheek.

  So had he.
