“I would have never guessed you weren’t,” was all I could think of to reply. Especially after her eagerness to kiss me. Megan looks sheepishly down at her drink on the table. “I don’t know what was wrong with me,” she says.
“Oh trust me, there is definitely nothing wrong with you.” I smile at her when she looks up at me. It seems to ease her worry a little bit.
We are interrupted by plates of food placed in front of us. I look from Megan’s meager plate of eggs and bacon to my gargantuan waffle with fruit and syrup.
“You really should eat more food,” I comment as the waitress walks away.
“I don’t know how you can eat all of that and look as good as you do,” Megan replies, staring at me. It takes her a minute to realize what she’s said and we both blush.
“Well, I walk a lot,” I say, taking a bite of the waffle. “Oh my God, what is with the food here? You have to try this,” I cut a piece of the waffle and hold it over the table for her. She pauses for a moment, looking at me, and my mind wanders back to last night with the tiramisu. If only she’d kiss me again like that.
After a brief hesitation, she leans over and carefully takes the waffle off the fork. I watch her eyes roll back into her head and she sighs.
“Good, right? That’s the best waffle I’ve ever tasted, and I’ve tasted a lot of waffles.”
Megan nods, still savoring the bite I’d given her. “I wouldn’t know. That was amazing though.”
“Hold the phone,” I stare at her in disbelief. “You don’t eat waffles?” My voice got louder than I anticipated it to and I could see people staring at me. I quiet myself and lean over closer to her. “You can’t be serious.”
“Not since I was a little kid,” Megan laughs. “Like I said before, I don’t eat a lot of sweets. I guess I lead a sheltered life.”
“Well,” I say matter-of-factly, giving her a smile. “I’m here to tell you that you’ll live a sheltered life no-more.”
Conversation between us comes easily. As much as I never thought I’d be interested in something like law, her stories make it seem exciting. She listens to every word when I talk about my trip into the wilderness and my adventures traveling. About my boring days writing blog posts and other odd-and-end writing gigs. Every question she asks is filled with curiosity and wonder. I love the way her eyes look when she’s listening. She was so methodical, paying attention to every word I said. Catching small details I didn’t even notice.
We talk so long our food gets cold. I split the last piece of waffle with her and hold her piece over the table. She takes it lightly and the syrup dribbles down her face. As cute as she looks, I can't help but lean over and gently run my finger over her chin where it had fell.
Our eyes meet for a long moment, neither of us speaking. I can feel my heart racing in my chest. As soon as my hand leaves her face, I want to touch her again. Megan pays for our food and the two of us move quickly back to the elevator. When the doors close and we are alone, I push her up against the wall and press my body into hers.

I’d never felt more relaxed with another human being in my life. Everything we’d talked about through breakfast had filled me with happiness. My life was always so chaotic, filled with stress and deadlines and expectations. Nothing was like that with Olivia. I felt carefree, as if it didn’t matter what I said and did - I wouldn’t be judged. I had room to breathe and be myself.
The way she carefully ran her fingers over my chin sent a chill through me. As soon as she touches me, all I want is to be alone with her as fast as possible. The check couldn’t have came any slower. By the time we reach the elevators my body is trembling.
Olivia pushes me against the wall and moves her body into mine. Her fingers sweep down my cheek and our faces linger close to one another. I can feel the breath from her nose trickling on my skin. I wrap my hand around her head and burry my fingers in her adorable frizzy curls. She pushes her lips into mine. It is electric, the kiss. Like it is the first time I’d ever kissed someone in my life. We linger on top of one another, breathing softly.
The ding for the third floor came faster than I expected it to. We make our way out into the hallway and I grasp her hand in mine. She doesn’t pull away. When she reaches our door, I turn her to face me and press my mouth to hers. I hear her gasp and she put her hands on the side of my face. We stay there for a moment before she turns and lets the key click into the lock.
As the door slid shut behind us, Oliva pushes me onto the massive king sized bed. She lays herself on top of me and presses our bodies together. I feel her lips on mine again. They linger for a moment before I feel her tongue tickling me. When she comes into my mouth I let out a soft sigh and wrap my hands around her face.
“You taste so good,” I whisper when our mouths break.
Olivia smirks. “You taste salty. I think you need to eat more sweets.” We share a giggle between us before our mouths press together again. Each touch of her lips has me trembling. I crave them. I want to feel her naked body against mine.
It is as if she had read my mind. Her hands sweep underneath my blouse and I can feel her fingers against my skin. They are soft and wispy and effortless, just like everything else about her. I help her pull it over top of me, exposing my petite frame. Goosebumps fill my skin when she looks down at me.
I feel Olivia’s fingers trace my skin from my collarbone all the way to my stomach. She moves down and kisses me on the side of my face and in to my neck. Her hands rest on either side of my body as she moves her face over me until she reaches the edges of my bra. When I look down at her, we meet eyes.
“Do you want me to?” She asks me and I nod. I sit up so she can reach around my body and undo the clasps. Her mouth meets mine again as she does and we kiss softly.
When my bra slid off, I lay my arms down beside me and look up at her, watching her soft face as she looks me over. “God you’re beautiful,” Olivia whispers to me, letting her fingers trail over me again. I reach up and tug at her tunic shirt.
“I want to feel you against me,” I tell her and she obliges, lifting her shirt over her head. She looks beautiful in her purple cotton bra, straddled over top of me. It only takes a moment and she’s unclasped it, letting it fall on the bed beside us.
It is silent between us for a moment as we look at one another. I feel very exposed but at the same time comfortable and calm. My hands stroke her arms. Oliva leans in, pressing her nakedness against me. I can feel her breasts laying against my own as our lips come together again. It felt so nice, her flesh touching me. I run my hands along the sides of her body as she laps at my lips. I hear her sigh lightly as I work down the length of her.
She trails into my neck again, her lips soft and gentle. I hold my hands against her head as she moves, wrapping my fingers in her curly hair. Each of her kisses moves closer and closer to my breasts. When she reaches them, she looks up at me.
“You should watch,” she tells me and I prop my body up slightly. Her mouth draws over them one at a time. She maintains eye contact with me as she works and it sends a fire to my loins.
When she’s through, she moves up to kiss me on the lips. “Do you want me to keep going?”
“More than anything,” I beg her. She reaches for pillows and lays them behind me so I can relax my body and still watch her. Afterwards, her hands fall at my waist and I watch her undo the button of my slacks. Our eyes meet again and she leans down to plant a kiss on my stomach. I sigh, reaching down to gently stroke her head with my hand.
My pants are slid off slowly. Olivia doesn’t bother with my underwear, taking everything off in one motion. My entire body lies vulnerable to her now and I don’t care. I just want her to touch me. Her eyes draw over the length of me again, motionless. I can only imagine what is running through her head. She leans down and kisses my stomach again and then gets to her feet.
“What are you—“ I start to ask but before I could finish, she slides her jea
ns off of her body and steps out of them. The most beautiful creature I could possibly imagine stands naked before me. She crawls on top of me again and presses herself to me. We move until our skin was against each other as much as humanly possible. Olivia puts her nose to mine and we breathe each other’s air for a moment, neither of us moving.
Our lips push together gently and then Olivia moves her body down me, planting kisses over my skin until she’s reached the middle of my legs. She hoovers over top of me.
“Please,” I beg her softly. I’d never wanted anything more in my entire life. She pushes her mouth down on top of me and gently kisses down the length of my middle. I let out an audible moan as she does, placing my hands on the back of her head.
Her fingers work alongside her mouth, tracing around my skin. When she finally dips in between my folds, she takes me in her mouth and my world spins.
“Oh my God,” I whisper, my hips bucking against her face. It only took a moment and I felt my body convulse beneath her. I gasp and clench my fists in her hair. My toes curl and my breath turns ragged. The waves crash into me, over and over again. Olivia continues to pleasure me until I relax into the bedsheets.
When she lifts her head she is smiling. “I’ve still got it.” I laugh and run my hands over her head. She moves up again and lays her body over top of mine. We breathe softly for a moment, stealing small kisses in between. And then I slowly roll her over, pulling myself over her small frame.

The taste of Megan’s nethers still lingers on my lips when she’d pulls herself on top of me. She brings her mouth to mine and our tongues chase one another’s between our lips. When she pulls away from me she looks hungrily down at my body, scouring over every part. Her fingers trace down my skin methodically, like everything she does. It is like she is memorizing every piece of me. When she drew over my naked breasts, I sigh.
I prop my body up against the pillows and watch as her mouth comes down on top of me. Her lips feel like silk against my skin. I could hear each kiss she made as she trailed down my body. When she reaches down between my legs, we meet eyes and I nod to her.
It feels like I have been shocked when she moves over me. Her lips and fingers trace over the skin of my folds slowly, putting effort into every touch. I watch her think about where to move. Plan what would feel the best. When she finally laps her tongue over my center, I felt my body tremble. I’d never wanted something so bad in my life.
Megan makes slow motions of it; long strokes that rumbled all the way through my body. Her hot breath tickles my skin. I can’t hold it in. My body bucks towards her and I moan into the room as I release. I feel her mouth and fingers work over me the entire time as each pulse ripples through me. When it finally slows, I sink into the bed, panting softly.
As I try to catch my breath, Megan moves up my body and plants a kiss on my lips. Then she slides beside me on the bed, staring up at the ceiling.
“That was amazing,” she whispers.
“Yeah,” I breathed, turning to look at her for a moment. She is smiling so big I think it might break her face. It is nice to know I’d been a part of the happiness she felt.
We turn towards each other, both having propped our heads up with our hand. I felt her fingers gently caress the side of my face.
“I have a question,” she asks me after we sat for a while looking at one another.
“Anything,” I reply, smiling at her.
“What made you want to be a writer?” Her hand strokes down the length of my arm and I sigh at her touch.
“I’m not really sure. I just wanted people to know my story,” I shrug. “I thought, why the hell not. There’s no reason why I shouldn’t try.”
Megan looks genuinely impressed by me. I loved the wonder in her eyes when she listened to me talk. I’d never met someone who’d gone out of their way to make me feel so appreciated and understood. “That’s amazing. Are you going to write another book?”
My face sank a little at the comment. “I’ve dabbled a little. I’m not really sure if I’m ever going to have a book as good as the first one.” I trail off for a moment feeling kind of flustered about what to say. I’d thought about writing for ages but had never mustered up the courage. Finally I meet her glance again and decide to change the subject. “Tell me more about this mysterious woman from your college days.”
Megan laughs and breaks out into one of her adorable smiles. I reach up and stroked the side of her face when she did and I couldn’t help but smile back.
“It was just a fling,” she says, pondering about it. “She was this beautiful exotic girl from Puerto Rico, who’d known she was a lesbian her whole life—kind of like you.” She glances at me, still smiling. “We got drunk one night and fooled around and the next thing I know I can’t stop thinking about her.”
“What happened?” I ask, curiously.
“She moved back to Puerto Rico after college. I haven’t heard from her since.”
“Did you date anyone else after?”
Megan pauses again and shakes her head. “You’re the first person I’ve been with since her.” Her words send a shutter through me. I lean into her and kiss her again. We linger there for a moment and breathe through our noses, our hands caressing one another.
“Like I said, I’m not even really sure what I feel,” she says while our faces are still close together.
A wave of anxiety runs through me when she says it. “I’m pretty sure I know how you feel," I tell her softly. Megan sighs as I stroke my fingers over her cheek. I still can’t shake the feeling that something is off. That this might have been a mistake. That I'd just taken advantage of a girl that didn't really know what she was doing.
A rumble comes from outside and stirs us. Megan sat up from the bed.
“Look! They’re plowing the roads!”
When I join her, I see the snowplow puttering down the street below. The snow looks as if it’s stopped too.
“I thought we’d be stuck in here for days,” Megan says, relieved.
My happy little bubble continues to deflate, fast. Reality comes crashing back down and all at once I feel panicked and unsure of everything. “I know, right? That’s great.”
My lying is terrible. Megan can totally tell. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” I try to recover, smiling as best I could. “Let’s go for a walk.”
The two of us trek outside bundled in our winter clothes. Every ounce of me wishes we were still lying in the bed together in the hotel room, trapped with each other for another day at least. Instead, my heart sinks further into my chest when I see the parking lot of the grocery store being cleared.
“Yes!” Megan turns around and hugs me. I feel like I am melting with the snow.
I follow her happy trot back into the hotel to collect our things. As we wander back outside out after checking out, Megan takes my hand in hers. At first I thought to pull away but I enjoy the feeling too much to fight it. It surprised me how much more open she is now.
“Let me give you a ride home,” she says to me when we reach her car. Our hands split and I feel a surge of anxieties overcome me.
“I can walk,” I say when she approaches me. “I need to burn off all the food we ate.” My laugh came out more somber than I’d wanted it to. God, what was wrong with me? Did I not expect it to ever end?
“I insist,” she says sternly. The way she looked at me sent a shiver down my spine.
“Yes ma’am,” I reply and hop inside.
We take the major streets out into the suburbs where Lauren and I’s apartment is. Most of them are cleared well enough that Megan could drive on them safely. There is barely any traffic out due to the weather. I am surprised she was brave enough to fight the roads. She’d seemed so eager to leave.
When we reach the avenues where I live, most of it is blocked off by unplowed roads. Megan pulls over alongside the main road and looks at me. “Do you think you can make it home okay from here?”r />
“Absolutely,” I smile at her.
Our eyes meet and I can’t help but stare at her. She looks so pretty with the sunlight shining on her hair and her cute puffy pink lips, slightly chapped from the cold. The two of us lean in almost simultaneously and our mouths meet for a brief moment. When we part, I smile at her as our faces sit closely together.
Suddenly a wave of panic washes over me again. I pull from her and clear my throat. “Well, it was fun.” It was the only thing I could think of to say.
“What?” She replies.
“This thing we had. It was nice while it lasted.”
“Don’t you want to see each other again?” Megan asks me, slightly taken aback.
My mouth keeps going before I realize what I am saying. “Well, I like to leave things up to fate. If it’s meant to be, life will have a way to make it happen again.”
“Don’t you think that it was fate enough that we even met in the first place?” Megan stares at me as if I’ve smacked her upside the face. “Besides, I’d just have to come find you. I wouldn’t chalk it up to chance.”
Megan stares at me shocked as I pull myself from her car and onto the street. “Drive safe.” I tell her, giving her the best smile I can muster.
“Okay,” she manages to reply, as I shut the door behind me.

At the root of happiness, exists all the people you’ve chosen to share it with.
.........................
I watch her walk away from the car down the street bound and determined not to cry. As soon as she turns the corner my face floods with tears. The whole past day we had just dissipates. I try to figure out where she had turned but I’d been so upset I hardly paid attention. She just vanished, as if nothing that had happened to us had mattered.
