Fight 4 Us (Book 11): Access Page 15

by Grenda, Brian

Phil sees a set of keys on the man that he just killed and grabs the keys.

“I can’t believe you are here,” says Jordan to Kat.

  “Me either,” replies Kat.

Phil opens the holding cell and Kat exits the cell and hugs Jordan.

Phil sees the three other holding cells have women in them and he says, “It’s okay we are here to help you.”

Shaun says into his radio earpiece, “There seems to be several holding cells with women in them.”

Phil unlocks the holding cells and the women from inside the cells run out of the cells and up the stairwell.

“I hate to break up the nice moment in there, but the zombies have stop coming and the red and whites are coming back inside,” says Jon into his radio earpiece.

“Let’s get out of here,” says Shaun.

Jordan sees that Kat is bruised and beaten and asks, “Are you okay? Can you walk?”

“I can run the fuck out of here,” answers Kat.

Phil sees that the woman, who was shot by the church man, is dead and he feels bad for the young woman.

“What happened in here?” asks Jordan to Kat as they walk up the stairwell.

“Let’s go Phil,” says Shaun to Phil.

Phil looks down at the young woman and notices her long brunette hair and he says, “This girl looks to be in her twenties. She shouldn’t have died like this.”

“I know, but we gotta go Phil,” says Shaun and then Shaun pulls Phil away from the holding cell.

Phil and Shaun run up the stairwell and they meet up with Jordan and Kat in Pastor Cower’s office.

“What happened here?” asks Phil to Kat.

“Some bad shit, this place looks to be…” answers Kat.

As Kat is answering Phil, a group of three people dressed in all white enter Pastor Cower’s office with Pastor Cower.

  BANG!

The man dressed in all white that is standing next to Pastor Cower fires a shot from is rifle.

  BANG!

Shaun fires a shot from his handgun and hits the man that just shot as he entered the room.

  BANG! BANG!

Phil fires two shots from his handgun and hits the two remaining men that are dressed in white.

Pastor Cower puts his hands up and shouts, “I’m unarmed! Don’t shoot!”

“Too bad for you!” shouts Phil and then Phil grabs Pastor Cower and slams his face onto his desk.

Shaun sees Jordan and Kat on the carpeted floor of Pastor Cower’s office.

  “Oh shit,” says Shaun.

“What’s happening in there?” asks Jon into his radio earpiece.

Kat is holding her stomach and blood is coming out from the gunshot wound she just suffered.

“We got Kat, but she’s been shot,” answers Shaun into his radio earpiece.

“Get the fuck out of there!” I shout into my radio.

“You’re coming with us!” shouts Phil and then Phil grabs Pastor Cower and pulls him off his desk.

Shaun and Jordan help Kat stand up and walk towards an interior church hallway.

Two armed men dressed in all white come down the hallway and they see Phil and Pastor Cower.

“Pastor!” shouts one of the armed gunmen who is dressed in white.

Phil uses Pastor Cower as a human shield and shouts to the men dressed in all white, “Stay the fuck back, or I’ll kill your pastor!”

Shaun and Jordan help Kat exit the church. Jon helps Kat get into their red car.

I see on Matt’s drone remote control video display, Jon, Jordan, Kat, and Shaun, but no sign of Phil.

“Where is Phil?” I ask into my radio.

“He’s still inside,” answers Shaun into his radio earpiece.

Shaun thinks about what to do and shouts at Jon, “Start the car Jon!”

  “Where’s Phil?” asks Jon.

“Still inside!” shouts Shaun and then Shaun runs back into the church.

Jordan sits with Kat in the backseat of the red car. “Stay with me Kat,” says Jordan to Kat.

Kat looks down at her bloody right hand and says, “I’m a goner. I can’t survive this gut shot.”

Jon starts up the red car and says to Kat and Jordan, “We’ll get you back home and Ryan will patch you up.”

Shaun comes running back to the red car with Phil and Pastor Cower.

“Pop the trunk Jon!” shouts Phil.

Phil and Shaun get over to the trunk of the red car with Pastor Cower. Shaun opens the trunk and Pastor Cower says, “I’m not getting in there.”

  SMACK!

Phil smacks Pastor Cower in the back of his head with the handle of his handgun, Pastor Cower passes out, and Phil and Shaun throw Pastor Cower into the trunk of their red car.

Shaun gets into the passenger seat of the red car and Phil squeezes into the backseat with Kat and Jordan.

Jon speeds towards the exit of the church but the church exit gate is closed.

  “Punch it Jon!” shouts Shaun.

Jon pushes down on the gas pedal and smashes into the closed exit gate of the church.

Several armed gunmen shoot at Jon’s red car as he speeds away from the church, but Jon’s red car is unharmed by the gunfire.

“If I don’t make it guys, you need to know what is going on in there,” says Kat as she leans on Jordan’s left shoulder as she sits between Jordan and Phil.

“You are going to make it, save your strength, tell us later,” says Jordan to Kat.

  “Go faster Jon!” shouts Phil.

“I’m going 90 right now,” replies Jon.

“Bring Kat to the Medical house Jon. Matt and I will be there,” I say into my radio.

Matt brings his drone back and I say to Matt, “Meet me in the Medical house. I’m going to get setup in there.”

I run away from Matt and approach the Medical house. I unlock and then open the front door to the Medical house and start to prepare for Kat’s arrival.

I grab the supplies that we were able to get back from Chelsea’s house and think about Jerri-Lynn and losing her. I ask myself, “Will I be able to save Kat, or will we lose another person?”

  CHAPTER 14

  EUGENICS

The front door of the Medical house opens; Shaun carries Kat into the Medical house and places her on the medical table that I’m standing next to.

“What do we got?” I ask.

“GSW to my abdomen,” answers Kat.

“Shit, bullet still in there?” I ask.

“It’s gotta be, there isn’t any blood coming out from her back,” answers Shaun.

I try to calm my nerves and focus, but it’s tough to see another friend of mine on my medical table in another life and death situation.

Kat struggles to catch her breath but she is able to speak somewhat, “Ryan… I know what this type of wound means.”

“I gotta try though Kat. I can’t just let you die,” I reply to Kat.

“Go get Deb, Jordan,” says Kat to Jordan.

“Okay,” replies Jordan and Jordan runs out of the Medical house.

I grab some rubbing alcohol and a new pair of clean medical tongs.

“Jordan is a good kid. He’s very useful,” says Kat to me.

“I’m going to try to get the bullet out of you now,” I say to Kat.

Kat grabs my left forearm and says, “No. I’m dying Ryan, just give me something for the pain. Even if you get the bullet out. There is no way of stopping all the blood loss and repairing what the bullet damaged in me.”

“I have to try though Kat,” I reply with a tear in my eye.

A loud sound of someone banging some metal is heard outside of the Medical house. “What’s that?” I ask.

“Probably that pastor guy,” answers Phil.

“I’ll go get him,” says Shaun.

Jon and Shaun exit the Medical house and walk over to their red car.

I give Kat two pain pills and some water.

Jordan and Deb come walking into the Medical house an
d they walk over to Kat.

“What happened?” asks Deb to Kat.

  “I got shot,” answers Kat.

“Can you save her?” asks Deb to me.

“I’m trying to get the bullet out of her, but she doesn’t want me to try,” I answer Deb.

“I’m sorry Deb,” says Kat to Deb.

“For what, there is nothing to be sorry about,” replies Deb with a sad tone.

“We had some good times, and we had a good thing going,” says Kat to Deb and Deb smiles at Kat.

Shaun and Jon forcefully escort Pastor Cower into our Medical house.

Deb walks over to Pastor Cower and punches him in his face as Shaun holds Pastor Cower’s arms behind his back.

“What the hell was that for?” shouts Pastor Cower.

Deb points at Kat and answers, “You killed my best friend asshole.”

Pastor Cower looks at Kat and sees her lying on her back on the medical table.

“I remember you,” says Pastor Cower as he looks at Kat. “I remember you as well,” says Pastor Cower as he looks at Deb.

“Guess you got what you deserved,” says Pastor Cower with a smart ass tone.

Deb punches Pastor Cower in the face again and replies, “You are about to get yours.”

Pastor Cower spits out some blood and laughs.

We all look at Pastor Cower, wonder why he’s laughing, and what’s wrong with this guy.

Shaun pulls Pastor Cower’s right arm up his back and Pastor Cower stops laughing as he feels pain from Shaun’s pressure on his right arm.

“What’s so funny?” asks Shaun to Pastor Cower.

“None of this matters. My people will rain fire upon you as they know what to do even if I’m gone,” answers Pastor Cower.

“What do you mean?” I ask Pastor Cower.

“People working together are stronger than a single man. My message is and will always be to cleanse and purify this new world,” answers Pastor Cower.

Kat looks at Jordan and gestures for him to come near her.

“The apocalypse is clearly upon us and the message I have received from god is to save this world and every survivor we come across,” says Pastor Cower.

“So you are doing god’s work?” asks Phil to Pastor Cower.

“Yes I am, and my people are as well,” answers Pastor Cower.

“Did god tell you to only save the white people?” asks Phil.

“He told me to save anyone that my people come across,” answers Pastor Cower.

“But I couldn’t help to notice that everyone we came across inside your church and we met around town have been white,” says Phil.

Pastor Cower looks at Phil, but doesn’t respond.

“He’s a bullshitter and a liar. He’s collecting people for some government program and he only wants white people. Mostly white women,” says Kat as Jordan helps her sit up on the medical table.

“How do you know that?” asks Pastor Cower.

“Your guards down in your little dungeon there are chatty Kathy’s and they love to brag about things,” answers Kat.

Pastor Cower notices that no one in the room is buying his bullshit and he pleads, “Please don’t kill me. I can help you.”

“You mean, you can save us,” says Phil.

“Yes, I can provide access to a large government group and program,” replies Pastor Cower to Phil as he breaks free from Shaun’s grip.

Kat sees that Pastor Cower got free from Shaun’s grip. Kat quickly grabs Jordan’s handgun out of his right hip holster, aims the handgun at Pastor Cower, and pulls the trigger.

  BANG!

Kat’s bullet hits Pastor Cower in his forehead. Pastor Cower collapses and falls backwards onto the hardwood floor of the Medical house.

Kat falls backwards onto the medical table, drops Jordan’s handgun and coughs up some blood.

I look at Kat and notice that she’s very pale and struggling to breathe.

I wipe away the blood on Kat’s lips and mouth with a clean hand towel.

“Nice freaking shot Kat,” says Shaun as he looks at the bullet hole in Pastor Cower’s forehead.

Kat looks at me and says, “That church needs to fall Ryan. Those people are terrible and have done awful things to people. They are kidnapping white women for some program that the government is involved in.”

“Okay Kat, we’ll stop them,” I reply to Kat with a soft tone.

“They had girls from the Haven there. I’m not sure who they gave the women to or who is involved,” says Kat and then Kat struggles to breathe.

“Thank you Kat, I’ll see personally that the church and group are finished,” I say to Kat.

“Thank you Ryan. You are a good guy, I’m going to miss you,” replies Kat.

“I’m going to miss you too. We all are,” I say to Kat as I start to break down a little.

Deb and Jordan come over to Kat and me.

“I think you should stay here with Deb, J,” says Kat to Jordan.

“I will. I planned on living here with you and Deb,” replies Jordan.

“You gotta take care of Lucky now,” says Kat to Deb.

“I will Kat. I will,” replies Deb with tears in her eyes.

“I just want to say thank you for being such great people to me and Deb. It’s hard to find good people in life and I’m glad that I met you all,” says Kat to everyone in the Medical house.

I grab Kat’s right hand, feel the pulse leave her hand and her right hand becomes ice cold.

I look at Kat’s chest and notice that she’s not breathing. I feel for a pulse on her right wrist and then check her carotid arteries.

  “She’s gone,” I say.

I remove my rubber gloves, throw my rubber gloves in a trash can and exit the Medical house.

Phil checks Pastor Cower’s clothes and he finds a small black book in his chest pocket of his black suit jacket. Phil opens the small black book and sees names of people in the book and he isn’t sure what to make of it.

“What should we do with his body?” asks Jon.

“We should chop his head off and drop it at the church,” answers Shaun.

“We should make it known that Pastor Cower is gone though and maybe the church group will fold,” says Phil.

“What if his death starts something with that group and us?” asks Shaun.

“Pretty sure it already has,” says Jordan.

“What’s the plan going forward with the church though?” asks Deb.

Phil thinks about what to do and he looks down at the small black book of names. “I think we need more answers about the church,” answers Phil.

“How are we going to get them though? This guy is dead,” replies Shaun.

“We’ll come up with something,” says Phil and then Phil exits the Medical house.

I see Phil exit the Medical house and walk over to me. “You okay Ry?” asks Phil.

“Not really, but I gotta be,” I answer.

“You don’t have to be anything. If you aren’t okay then just let me know. This new world is a crazy freaking place and it’ll break you, if you let it,” says Phil.

“What do you think is going on with the church?” I ask Phil.

Phil tosses me the small black book and answers, “I don’t know, but it could be more than we think.”

I open the small black book and turn to the first page in the book.

“Eugenics,” I say as I read the first word written on the first page of the small black book.

  “What’s Eugenics?” asks Phil.

“I’m not sure, but I heard it before,” I answer Phil.

Jordan exits from the Medical house and asks me and Phil, “Where should I bury Kat?”

I look at Jordan and answer, “We have a cemetery. We can help you with the burial.”

“I’ll do it. Kat was like a mother to me,” replies Jordan.

“How did you team up with Kat and Deb?” I ask Jordan.

“The Grove. I met them outside of
the Grove in St. Pete, and they brought me in,” answers Jordan.

  “You were alone?” asks Phil.

“I like to be by myself, too many people can be trouble,” answers Jordan.

Deb exits from the Medical house and asks, “I’m sorry to interrupt, but will we be able to have a service for Kat?”

“Yes, we will definitely have a service for her,” I answer Deb.

“That would be nice,” replies Deb.

“I’ll start digging her grave,” says Jordan.

“Let’s get a couple shovels, and we’ll pick a spot in the cemetery,” replies Phil and then Phil and Jordan walk away from the Medical house and towards Phil’s house.

“Jordan seems like a good guy,” I say to Deb.

Deb looks at Phil and Jordan walking away and replies, “He is. He’s a little much at times and he can be a loner, but he’s got a good heart.”

“So did Kat. I remember the first time I met her,” I say to Deb.

  Deb looks at me.

“It was at World of Trade and I intervened in her trade with a vendor that was ripping her off,” I say.

“I think I remember her telling me about that,” says Deb.

“It makes you wonder, how and why people come into your life. Like why did I meet her at World of Trade? How were we there at the same exact day and time?” I ask.

“Everything happens for a reason,” answers Deb.

“Yeah, it does. I’m sorry for your loss Deb. I’m going to miss Kat,” I say to Deb.

“I will as well,” replies Deb.

I say goodbye to Deb, enter the Medical house and talk with Jon and Shaun.

“What was that church like?” I ask Shaun and Jon.

“I only saw it from the outside, but there were a lot of people there,” answers Jon.

“A lot of white people,” says Shaun.

  “Really?” I ask.

“Yeah, I didn’t notice it until Phil said something in here. Pretty much everyone we saw was white,” answers Shaun.

“What should we do with this guy?” asks Jon.

“Wrap his body and put him in the back shed of this house, he’s gonna start to stink. We might just burn him, but we might want to show the church people that he’s gone, and their way is done around here,” I answer.

“I know we got a couple body bags left in my garage,” says Shaun.

“That’ll work good,” I say to Shaun.
