The Art of Eavesdropping Page 19

by Christy Barritt

I went to my room and sat on my bed. Maybe I’d read my father’s next journal entry now. I could use a little of his advice.

My throat tightened when I pulled it out and turned to the right page.

  I began reading:

I know this next part is going to take you by surprise. But if something happens to me, please know that it may not be an accident or from natural causes. My enemies are trying to find me, and I fear they get closer and closer every day.

  I sucked in a breath.

My dad’s heart attack might not have been a heart attack?

If someone killed him . . . I needed to find out who that person was.

That meant I couldn’t quit the agency. I needed to learn all I could about tracking down the bad guys. Oscar wasn’t the best in the business, but Michael might just be.

Tears flooded my eyes as I closed the journal.

“I’m going to do this for you, Papa. I’ll find the person who did this to you.”
