The Ambassador Page 28
by Yehuda Avner
Adolf Eichmann fled Germany for Argentina, where he and his family lived under cover until his kidnapping by Israeli agents in 1960. His trial in Jerusalem was a seminal event in assessments of how the Nazis came to perpetrate the Holocaust. He was executed in 1962 at a prison in Ramla and his ashes were scattered in the Mediterranean.
David Ben-Gurion was twice prime minister of Israel. It was on his order that the Mossad captured Eichmann. Sirens sounded across Israel to mark his death in 1973 at the age of eighty-seven.
