by M. C. Cerny

“I was thinking that she was the most beautiful woman in the world and that I was lucky she looked past all my faults and chose me.” It’s the nicest thing he’s ever said about her and I believed him. There’s a love and light that shines in his eyes that wasn’t there a year ago.

  “Really dad?”

“Really Win.” He patted my hand.

“But how did you know you loved her? How did you know you didn’t love her?” All the questions are popping out now as we walked down the aisle.

“I never stopped loving your mother. We just grew too far apart for love to hold us together. We’ll always have you. We’ll always have the memories of those years together in that shit hole first apartment before I made any money and then when we moved uptown those early years.”

  “But now?”

“Now I think your mother needs something else, maybe someone else and once she figures it out, I’ll be here, or there, or where ever she needs me to be.”

  “And you’re okay with that?”

“I’m not saying I’d love that, but if that’s what she needs than I’ll find a way to adjust. That’s part of love. Loving the whole person.”

It was hard to imagine my parents with other people. I never wanted to imagine my life without Chase.

“That’s the look.” Dad nudged me as we took several more steps closer to the next chapter in my life.

  “What look?”

“That look that says he’s your person. You’ll do alright sweetheart.”

  “You think so dad?”

Dad leaned in to whisper in my ear through the veil. “I know so. Besides, he’s got all the equipment you’ll ever need. He’ll keep you very happy.” Dad winked and handed me off to Chase while shaking his hand.

The priest began the ceremony and that’s when I realized my dad made a dick joke handing me off to my husband.

  About the Author

M.C. Cerny is a USA Today Bestselling author of fresh and sexy books. She fell in love with books after experiencing her first real ugly cry reading, Where The Red Fern Grows. Her debut romantic suspense novel, Flashpoint was written in a series of post-it-note ramblings that would likely make her idol Tom Clancy and her mother blush. She calls rural NJ home with her menagerie of human and feline fur-babies. When M.C. is not writing, you’ll find her lurking in Starbucks, running stupid marathons, singing Disney show tunes, and searching out the perfect shade of pink nail polish.

  Acknowledgments

It’s a little unknown fact that I actually passed out several years ago in a vet’s office while one of our family dogs was receiving acupuncture for arthritis. I hope you all had a good laugh at my expense. I never liked needles, who does? At the time I liked dogs even less, don’t hate me, I’m a cat-momma, but I had no idea I would feel faint and the room would spin and get dark. Well, now I know, and I use that wisdom to wait in the waiting room for all future acupuncture treatments no matter what species of beloved family pet. I didn’t meet my Prince Charming back then, but years later I always wondered what could have been, and that was the beginning outline of Tailwind.
