“Not exactly as planned,” I furrowed my brow at him. “Something tells me you might have an explanation for that though.”

“Well then, you visited the North Pole then?” He looked over at the guys in question a grin on his face.

“I don’t see what that has to do with anything,” Luka said, the first clear sign of irritation I had seen in him since we had met. He wanted answers that was very obvious.

“I didn’t tell you the whole story earlier, and I should have,” he looked down at his feet. “You might want to sit for this.”

“No, I think I’m good,” I said. I had no clue what he was about to say, but I needed him to just get it out.

“So, I told you that you were born of love, and born of sin. We escaped because they wanted to take you from us. I didn’t tell you why. You are special Holly,” he sighed as he handed me the parchment from the closet.

I unfurled it and glanced down. Beautifully scrolled calligraphy covered the old faded parchment.

The child born upon the night of Christmas Eve, one conceived of Love and of Sin, shall have the powers of both The North Pole and Hell. She alone shall unite all the lands, harnessing the magic of those from which she was born and those that she unites.

Beware those that shall try to destroy her, for she is The Spirit, and without her all shall be lost. She shall come to power as she is returned to her place of birth on the night of Christmas Eve, a night of magic and restoration. Unless she is returned, she shall not take her rightful place, and The Spirit shall remain unknown.

“What the hell Dad? Don’t you think this kind of thing is a little important?”

“I was kind of hoping it would not ever end up being a concern. I realized when you only became more and more lost in yourself that I had no other choice but to tell you. It would seem that fate had a different idea and was one step ahead of me anyway,” he lifted a shoulder and gave an ironic laugh, eyeing the guys.

“You put her at risk by not telling her, Reginald,” Nick said, frustrated with my Dad.

“I know, it wasn’t intentional and my selfishness is no excuse. I’m sorry Holly. I did what I needed to protect you,” he sighed.

I walked to him and wrapped him in a hug, “I know,” I murmured against him. “You told me now, that’s what matters.” I pulled back and gave him a small smile. “So, what does this mean?”

“When you were born someone tried to take you from us, under the guise that it was because we should have never had you. That you were an abomination and you would destroy the Christmas Spirit. This letter was delivered to us anonymously and we knew instantly it was about you.

“These three never knew about the letter but still discovered the intent of those trying to take you was to have you killed. Neither your mother or I could ever figure out who it was. Because of the lengths they went through to remove you from us it made us more certain than ever that you were The Spirit the letter talked about.

“That was when we asked for their help escaping,” he nodded to the guys. “We felt it would put them in too much danger by telling them anything more so we kept it a secret. They only knew that someone was out to have you killed and so they helped us.”

“Wait, how the fuck old are you three?” I asked, looking at them in disbelief.

“We’ll just say we have a few years on you,” Bernard grinned.

  “Like how many years?”

“A few hundred or so,” Luka smirked, my eyes growing wide.

“Is that really important right now?” Nick asked.

“I guess not,” I shrugged and turned back to my Dad. “So what now?

“Now that it has come full circle and you know you are The Spirit and have restored your power, they will feel it too. Whoever they were, they knew when you were born and tried to have you killed. They did it once before and they will be after you again. You need to figure this out, and learn who you are and what this letter means for your future,” he said solemnly.

My world had changed so much in one night all because of one letter that I never even knew existed. I went from loathing Christmas, to caring about the spirit of Christmas and what happened to those children that held onto the hope that Santa was coming to see them. I cared for three amazing, infuriating and sexy ass guys that had taught me it was okay to feel again, even after losing my mother. And now I learned that I was responsible for keeping the Spirit alive in all of the Worlds. What did that even mean?

I looked at my three guys still standing in the doorway watching me, emotion filling their eyes. I guess we were about to find out together, one holiday at a time.

  About the Author

Everly Taylor is a Fantasy author, and is often called crazy for the things that come from her imagination. She took that crazy and turned some of it into words for you to enjoy.

She loves spending time with her three boys and niece, filling their heads with fantastic stories to expand their imagination.

She is the proud mommy of a sasshole husky named Suki. No, she's not named after that show, or that place, or that person. And a black cat, named Blue. She is often mistaken for a witch by her neighbors, but of course she encourages this belief with the utmost enthusiasm.

She has what might be termed an unhealthy obsession with Jackie Chan, but owns that to the fullest, still hoping one day to rock his world.

Born to be a pirate she prefers rum over wine, and has a mouth to match a sailor. You can often catch her telling dirty jokes with her brothers if she isn't writing even dirtier scenes for her readers.
