Not anymore.
Marcelle, feeling more secure and at peace, had enrolled in one more school and she loved it. Violet decided to speak French with her at home, more often, in a nice way to honor the promise Theo had made to Celine.
Amanda twisted the door handle and opened the door of their new home.
They’d decided buying a new home to make new memories would be the perfect way to make everyone feel welcomed and ready to start their life together. Thankfully, the children had reacted positively to the news of the pregnancy and later, marriage.
“Happy Mother’s Day!” the kids screamed, and the scene unraveled a bit less harmoniously than what he’d had in mind. Trevor jumped on the bed and woke up his mom, and Violet sat upright, a tad startled, but quickly recovered and hugged her son.
Marcelle sat the tray on the bed, and Amanda drew the curtains, the rays of sunshine filtering through the large windows.
“Thank you, guys.”
Little Leo, who rested in the bassinet close to the bed, woke up crying.
Theo reached to get him and change his diaper. When Trevor handed his mother her glass of orange juice, half of it sloshed out of the glass and onto the linens.
“Sowwy,” he said.
Violet ruffled his head. “It’s okay. Guys, I love this surprise.”
Theo winked at her across the room. “I got a babysitter for later. There are other surprises coming,” he said, remembering the romantic dinner he’d planned, where he’d give her a nice bracelet he bought for her. “I’d say it won’t be as messy, but there’s no way I can guarantee that,” he said, winking at her.
She looked at him across the room, happiness flickering across her face. An energy passed between them, that warm familiarity that brought them closer no matter the distance. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Acknowledgments
Big thanks to my readers. I have to say, none of this would be possible without you.
I know writing Violet’s story was risky in a sense; she had left her home in book 1, and in book 2 we see the aftermath through her former husband’s eyes. I hope this book helped you understand her better.
Violet had to deal with her own demons, and don’t we all in our own way? But women, and mothers specially, are resilient. Strong, even when they are weak.
I truly appreciate my critique partner Christine Glover for all her help. My copy editor Rebecca Lynn and beta reader Dina Bushrod. Love my support system!
Huge thanks to Mary McCoy for helping me with medical questions.
