Angel of Death Page 26

by S. Massery

Hadley raises her eyebrow. “They already came after Griffin, though.”

Wyatt and I both turn to stare at her.

“Smith was the one who killed Il Fantasma’s son. He framed Griff for it. Which means chances are good that someone wanted Griffin dead.”

“Or they want me back in Scorpion.” The dread drips down my spine as I look first at Wyatt, then Hadley. “They love someone they can control.” You know what they say about loved ones—they’re collateral. And now Jackson and I are vulnerable.

“They almost had you,” Wyatt says. “What’s going to stop them from trying again?”

“You,” Hadley whispers. “You all have to stop them.”

Wyatt extends his hand toward me. “Will you help me?”

I stare at his hand for a minute. I could say no. Hadley and I would be safe here. But I can’t say the idea of another mission doesn’t stir an eagerness inside me.

I take a deep breath, and Hadley squeezes my hand again. I glance down at her, and she winks at me. That’s all the encouragement I need.

  “I’m in.”
