  Chapter Eleven

The ride home was a rough one for both of them. While she was exploding on top of him, he wasn’t having it all that easy either. He was so worried about everything that was going on that he’d almost missed his house altogether. Instead of coming in like he usually did, Jack overshot it and had to come back around.

It was just a little bit longer that she was on top of his back, panting and having a good ol’ time. It was enough to drive him mad, and she wasn’t the only one affected. He wasn’t on the ground though, looking like he’d lost himself, but he could have been close.

Changing into his human form, he stopped in front of her and kneeled down.

“Are you going to tell me that you’re okay?”

  She shrugged. “I will be.”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

They walked through a short clearing to his main entrance. It was all so casual and didn’t hint at what had just gone down.

“I think that is literally the last thing I want to do.”

“Well, it's hard for me not to say anything. I mean, after what you just did, again.”

She groaned out loud, and Jack could tell that Mona was embarrassed. He would not have believed that someone that looked so innocent could create such havoc with him. But the proof was in the pudding. She had certainly made a terrible mess of his head.

He opened the door, and she followed him in. Crossing the threshold seemed to do something to him because now the questions were coming faster, and she was finding it harder and harder to answer them. He was messing with her body and her mind.

“I think that we should talk about it.”

  “I don’t agree.”

“I know that it might be hard, but it needs to happen.”

“What do you want me to say? You know what happened. I exploded on your back because I was that turned on. It is embarrassing, and I would rather not speak of it, but that doesn't seem to be an option. I don't know what more I could say.”

“I think that is all I needed to hear. Were you satisfied enough?”

“I think three times was enough. Why?”

He growled at her answer and made Mona take a step back.

  “Just three times?”

“Yeah, that's actually a record for me. The crazy part is that you didn't even touch me though.”

Jack was one that had started this conversation, but he was wishing quite quickly that he had stopped it. It was not at all what he should be talking to her about. He wanted to be more present those three times she had found pleasure.

“Well, I guess next time we'll have to beat the record. Three does not seem very impressive.”

“You can think whatever you want, but three is pretty impressive to me.”

“Imagine what I could do if I get my hands on you?”

Mona took another step back, but Jack just moved closer to her. He wanted her to know how badly he needed her, even at the same time that he was trying to hold in his emotions.

“Do you not want to imagine? Better yet, don't you want to know what I can do to you?”

That was the last thing she wanted to do, and he could see it written all over her face. Mona was like an open book. Everything that she was thinking was coming out in the tiny little movements of her expression.

“I don't think that it would be a good idea.”

“What do you think a good idea would be then?”

“That depends. I guess it could be a lot of things.”

He was so close, all he had to do was lean over just a little bit, and he would be able to kiss her. That's what he wanted to do. That's what his body yearned to do, but something was holding him back.

He wasn’t entirely sure if she wanted to take it to the next level. He did. As soon as he met her, he knew that he wanted to, but even though she was an open book, there was a mask of innocence that made her reactions hard to decipher. With something so important, Jack did not want to be wrong.

  “Can I kiss you?”

“Did you really just ask me that?”

“I did. I don't want to push myself onto you, but I really want to. Just one kiss. Don't you think that you owe me that, considering that you exploded all over me and I didn't get anything out of it?”

Whatever she was about to say was snapped back up and she closed her lips, pressing them tightly together. “Well, you didn't have to say it like that.”

“And how would you like me to say it?”

“I don’t know, but not like that.” Her face was pink again. Jack had to wonder where this woman had come from.

“Indeed. I'd really like to kiss you.”

Her lips finally puckered, and she leaned in a little bit. Jack was sure that she was about to protest or something to that accord, but he didn't give her time to finish. All he was thinking about was touching her and feeling her.

Her lips were like velvet and Jack immediately knew that whatever was happening between them was supposed to be happening. There was no way that something could feel so good and be wrong. He almost growled when she pulled away. He was not done with the kiss and made sure that she knew it.

  “That was nice. Thank you.”

He was a bit thrown off that she had thanked him. It was a kiss. She was supposed to be turned on, and she was supposed to ask him to finish pleasuring her. There was so much more that he could do. But she didn't. Instead, she thanked him.

He didn't know what to say, but there was no time to say it because she was already going upstairs. Mona said something about needing to lay down, and he couldn't argue with her. They had both had a big day, even if they had two very different ways of relaxing from it.

That left Jack to think about everything that had happened, to replay all of the possibilities in his mind, and it was hard to realize that he had been so close to getting some relief. He hadn't slept in two days. Jack knew that the best thing to do was to find a woman to take care of his needs. Then he would be able to finally get some sleep.

The only problem was that the woman he wanted was a woman he couldn't have. She wasn't ready for that sort of thing, and he was going to have to be okay with it.

He tossed and turned for a little while. Finally, he just got up and gave up altogether. There was no way that he was going to go to sleep, not when the boys were missing. Not when there was a woman a few doors down like Mona. None of those things were going to happen. The only way he was going to get some sleep was if Mona changed her mind—something he didn’t see happening.

He went back to bed and closed his eyes, but Jack was nowhere closer to being asleep than he was before. Instead, he was thinking about everything that he had heard about the Franklin Organization, and he even fantasized about what he would do to them when he finally found them. None of it was pretty, but it all brought a smile to his face.

He heard a scream and instantly knew that it was coming from Mona's room. He went to her, not even thinking about privacy or anything like that. He thought something had happened to her and he had to keep her safe. If he couldn't keep the people who he loved safe, how was he supposed to get up every day and look at himself in the mirror?

When he got to her room, though, he knew immediately that she was in no danger at all. There was no one else in the room, and her eyes were blinking like she had just woken up. All of the stress that he heard was obviously from a dream or something of that nature.

He asked her if she was alright, but at first, she didn't want to answer him. Finally, he sat down next to her and asked her again.

“I know that this must be hell on you. Everything has just turned out so differently than I imagined. I would be happy to talk to you about it if you want to.”

“I don't think that I need to talk about it. I just think that I need to forget about it for a while. I can't sleep, and every time that I do, all I can think about is that witch and everything that I heard about the Franklin Organization. I never thought that I would be in this sort of situation.”r />
“I promise you that you don't have to worry about it. You don't.”

  “Then why can't I stop?”

“I don't know. It’s most likely because you're a good person and you care about people. I know that you could have left at any time, but instead, you have faced your fears and stayed with me. Most people would not do that, and I wish you knew how rare you are.”

“Anybody would have helped you if they were the same position.”

Jack told her that he knew for certain that it wasn't true. “While we like to believe that people are that way, I do not think they are. I have met a lot in my life, and none of them were as good as you.”

Mona was quiet for a moment, then she got very serious.

“Can you stay in here with me tonight? I just don't want to talk; I don't want to do anything. I just want to be held. I know that you’re my boss, but I really need it.”

The question took him off guard for a moment, and he found it hard to answer her. The request was so simple and so sweet. How could he, in good faith, tell her no? All she wanted to do was be held, because she was scared and if he were truthful about the whole situation, a little physical connection wouldn't hurt either one of them. He was scared as well, but Jack was a man, and he was supposed to keep it all in. It was one of the hardest situations he’d ever been in.

“If that is what you need, I would be more than happy to give that to you.”

Mona smiled in the sweetest way, and he knew that he had made the right decision. Whatever happened next, his decision to make her feel safe was never going to be a bad one. He would never regret trying to help her.

She moved the blanket to the side, and he got in. Jack kept thinking, whatever happened next, he didn't want to hope for anything. He didn’t want to be disappointed, but at the same time, it was pretty impossible not to.

Jack had no idea what was going through her mind, but he figured she wasn’t thinking along the same lines as he was. He wanted to help her forget, but in a different way.

He would hold her, but real relief would come if he could touch her as well.

  Chapter Twelve

She had asked him to lay with her, but Mona really hadn’t thought it through. She was convinced that he was going to make her feel better, make her forget about her problems. And he did, to a certain extent, but he also created new problems.

Now, all she could think about was the hard and hot man that was lying next to her. She could smell the brimstone and scent of woods on him. It didn’t sound appealing, but to Mona, he was like a drug, and she couldn’t get enough. The silence was stretching out between them, and she had to feel it. Her nerves wouldn’t let her ignore the tension in the air.

“So, I am sorry about earlier, Jack. I don’t think you can imagine how embarrassed I am about it all. I wish I could take it all back.”

  “I doubt that.”

He chuckled, and Mona looked over at him in the darkness. “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“You enjoyed the hell out of it, Mona. Don’t act like you didn’t. Lying doesn’t become you.”

Her face got red, and she looked off into the blackness.

“Well, okay, you’re right. I am not sorry. I really needed it, and it wasn’t like I did something to make it happen. It just did.”

  “All three times?”

She grinned to herself for just a moment. “Yes, all three times.”

Mona heard him groan next to her and it didn’t sound like it was pleasant. “Sorry, I guess I probably shouldn’t have said that out loud.”

  “You think?”

She didn’t know what to say, and that was the problem. As much as she had asked for this, the fact of the matter was that Mona wasn’t prepared for actually lying next to him. There was no way that she was going to be able to get any sleep like this.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t be thinking about this kind of stuff. I don’t know what is wrong with me.”

“Nothing, Mona. You think that you’re the only one that is thinking about what it felt like? I haven’t been able to get the sounds you make out of my mind. They are driving me a little crazy.”

She shivered and wondered what that meant. Could it just be something that they both needed? Maybe it would help them both sleep. It wouldn’t be anything unusual since she had met him, more par for the course at this point.

  “I didn’t make any sounds.”

“Yes, you did. You also got a lot hotter than I would have imagined possible. It’s like you have a little heater between your legs. A wet one.”

She could feel her face getting bright red. She didn’t have to look in the mirror to know that it was true. He was messing with her head.

“I can’t believe you just said that.”

“It must be contagious, saying things that will get us into trouble.”

“Would it be that bad? You and I?”

Mona could see him looking at her in the dark. His face had shifted to look at her and she could see parts of it now.

  “What are you asking?”

“Just what I said. We both need to sleep, we’re attracted to each other, and we’re both horny. Would it be so bad?”

“Well, when you say it like that…”

The next thing she knew, he was bouncing on top of her, and she was trying not to let him be so close to her or bother her that much. She wanted to squeal and hide, but he’d already made comments about her sounds. Mona was going to try to hold them in as much as she could.

Jack’s lips moved towards hers, and she wasn’t able to stop it. She didn’t want to. He was hard in all the right places, pressed up against her. She was biting off far more than she could chew.

His need was felt in every touch of her body and in every way that he breathed. He was not just kissing her and touching her. He was consuming her, and she pushed him back, trying to catch her breath. It was just an idea moments ago and the feeling of him suddenly on her was more than she could handle.

“Do you want me to stop?”

“No, nothing like that. You’re just a lot to take on all at once, Jack.”

He chuckled and kissed her again. “You seemed to do quite well when it came to riding me. I certainly didn’t hear any complaints. I made a promise to you, and I intend to keep it.”

Mona trembled underneath him, and his hands deftly started to undo the buttons that went down her shirt. It wasn’t long until she was naked from the waist up. His eyes were devouring her, much like the way he kissed her. Mona needed him badly. She had to have him now.

“If you really want to keep your promise, you’re going to have to go a lot lower, Jack.”

That had him growling at her again, and it was hard to not react to the sound. His lips were moving on hers, while his hands were between their bodies, and she knew what he planned to do next. It was exactly what she had been waiting for, and Mona knew, like everything else when it came to Jack, it was going to be more than she could handle.

His hands were just as expert on her bottoms as they had been on her top. She was bare underneath him, and Jack wasted no time, moving to give her exactly what she needed. Mona jerked a little when she felt the heat from his breath on her most intimate parts.

  “A promise is a promise.”

Jack moved to take his first lick, and Mona was doing everything she could to stay in one place. It was easier said than done, when all he was doing, was slowly driving her mad. Her body was already set to the highest level, and she remembered very clearly the orgasms she had received just riding on his back. His mouth on her was far more damning, and she wasn’t able to hold it together. She wasn’t even going to try.

The sound ripped out of her and there was no one around to hear it, except Jack. He groaned as he felt her thighs tighten up around him. It was very easy to see what was going on. She was ready for him in all ways, and it didn’t take long at all to send her straight to the moon. Mona was calling out his name with no encumbrance like she had befor
e. It just felt too damn good for her to pretend that it didn’t.

He brought her to the full pleasure that her body could handle and then pushed more. Mona was sure that Jack was trying to kill her. Could she die from too much pleasure? It felt possible, and she pushed him away with all of her might. He was just too strong, too determined.

Then the phone rang, and she sighed with relief and doubled her efforts.

“Get the phone, Jack. You don’t know who it is.”

Mona smacked him on the chest a couple of times to fully get his attention and then she could breathe again when he got up a little wild-eyed and started to look for the phone. It was almost comical, if he wouldn’t have centered her gaze at her once again, which stopped her in her tracks.

“I will get to you in a moment.”

She stayed where she was, barely breathing, like that was somehow going to help her cause. She didn’t want to move, too afraid that he would see right through her and she wouldn’t be able to stop it. Mona was falling for a shifter that she barely even knew. It wasn’t like her, this feeling of instant compatibility that she felt with him. It was hard to imagine anything helping her more than the way he was looking at her now.

  “Yeah, what is it?”

His voice was gruff, but she knew that he wasn’t upset. Jack was just horny, and she was quivering inside with the knowledge that he was going to be inside of her soon. Once he got off the phone, Mona was going to get everything that she wanted.

Then his face changed, and her hackles were raised almost immediately. Something was going on, something terrible.

“What, where?” She heard Jack yell at the person on the phone.

Hope filled Mona. Maybe they had finally found his boys. It was all going to be okay. She repeated it like a mantra, her mood suddenly changed and it was impossible to reignite.

Later would have to be enough for now.

  Chapter Thirteen

Everything was moving quickly now. Jack had gotten a call from one of the many private investigators that he had put on the case. They thought that they had found the witch, though there were still very little details about her. From what was told to him, there was a lot that wasn’t known, just that she was old and powerful. It wasn’t a good combination when it came to witches. The older they were, the more they would learn, and the more dangerous they would be to everyone around them.
