Selena shook her head. She wiped her eyes before she turned to face him. “Bastion, that’s not a biblical parable.”
“Well, of course not. Early man feared the power given to women and tried to write them out of history. But it is true. It’s why, when you stand with your body facing mine, your heart beats against where it once had its home in my chest.”
Selena laughed and leaned her head against his shoulder. “You’re crazy. You know that, right?”
“Well, I’m French, which makes me a romantic at heart. It’s something you Americans will never understand.”
“I guess your theory explains why some men have such a low opinion of women.”
“Perhaps. Fools that they are, they like their women hopeless, dreamless, fearful. Me, I like my woman full of heart.”
“I love your kind of crazy, Bastion.”
“Of course you do. Your heart is mine.” He smiled.
“So the world begins and ends with you?”
He shook his head. “It begins with me, goes through you, and ends with us.”
