“Nothing, I hope.” Her fingers toy with my ponytail. “But I don’t want you working too hard.”
“Working too hard was my old life. Being here, working with you, is anything but difficult.”
The dissonant tones of an ambulance sing from far across the city skyline, a call too distant for me to respond to, but it reminds me of another siren song.
“Hey, I checked out ‘Won’t You Come Home to Me?’ on YouTube. Eighteen hours online, and it’s reached a million views.”
Rowan’s excitement tingles from her crystal into mine. “Meaning the other Livran kids could be hearing our message right now.”
I nuzzle the glorious copper curls behind her ear. “Then we’d better roll out the red carpet.”
She chuckles. “Or lay a trail of fortune cookie crumbs to lead them home?”
