Chapter Sixteen
The sun had already set by the time Tryss made her way across Fandon Park toward Veltar’s meeting house. It was a sleepy night in the city, apparently. She only saw two other people enjoying the park, and other than a few scattered beggars and a dung sweeper, the adjoining streets were empty as well. It was a welcome change from the endless bustle of the palace. Once again her mother had stuffed it full of local nobles and visiting dignitaries, but at least tonight Tryss had been able to slip away.
She would have been a terrible socialite tonight anyway given how much was on her mind. She had finally decided to contact Veltar and let him know she wanted to meet. It had only been a few days since he had given her the research, but already the results were disturbing. She had almost abandoned the project altogether several times. This afternoon she’d been a flick of the wrist away from torching all the documents and never thinking about them again, but she hadn’t gone through with it.
