“There are two other properties,” Stavia continued, while Cam just sat stunned. “Murphy owned an apartment complex in Florida, while Donoghue had a ranch in Kentucky. Both of them are managed by humans, and the deeds, transferred into your name, are included in that envelope. From what I can work out they both make a reasonable annual income, and they are both now yours. All together, the two estates are worth millions.”
Someone whistled, and Kyle said, “Holy crap, you are going to be one rich little omega. Awesome.”
Cam looked around the table, at his new friends and at the vampires who had done right by him in the end. He had never wanted to be rich. A wolf was never really interested in money once they had their basic needs met, and Cam had everything he wanted under his fingertips. He was never likely to have children to leave an estate too, and it seemed pointless to have all of that money just sitting in the bank.
Looking down at Roger, he could see that his mate had been following his thought process.
You don’t have to think about it now, Roger said through their mind link, his eyes soft and understanding. I will always take care of you, but maybe you can use some of the money to do something you’ve always dreamed of doing.
I don’t even have a bank account or a birth certificate to get one, Cam sent back.
Steel will help. We will all help. You have a pack now, let us help you with all you need.
Cam nodded, but in his head, it wasn’t him that was rich, it was his pack. They had accepted him when he had nothing – not even a stitch of clothing to his name. He would make sure some good came out of his new fortune – something good for the whole pack, not just him and his mate. After all that was the wolf way.
Epilogue
The nerves were back, Roger could tell. The eyes down, twitchy finger thing betrayed Cam’s state of mind, and that was without the edginess that was tinging their mind link. Cam had been doing so well, taking in the news he was a rich man, dealing with the adoration of the pack, not to mention being the perfect mate for Roger in every way. But it would take more than a matter of weeks, for Cam to reach his full potential.
The two men had done some scenes together, but Roger absolutely refused to do anything that might cause Cam any pain. There were so many ways he could make his mate feel good, accept that delicious innate submission and showcase Cam’s considerable talents. Roger knew he was the envy of the pack, with his mate by his side. Not that anyone saw Cam naked, except Roger. That was not negotiable in his head.
Roger was also adamant that Cam never call him Master or Sir. Those words had a negative connotation in his mate’s head, and in Roger’s eyes it wasn’t worth it. Even in the depth of a scene, when Cam was flying in subspace, like the previous evening when Roger and Cam had treated the Bound and Bonded members to a Shibari rope demonstration, Roger still insisted his mate use his given name.
Wearing nothing but a leather thong, Cam had submitted beautifully in that demonstration, his trust in Roger evident in every knot that Roger tied. Despite being in front of a crowd, Cam wasn’t fazed by it. He kept his eyes on Roger the whole time. It was Roger that lost control in the end - pushing that ridiculous strip of leather aside and fucking into his mate with all of his strength, the sight of Cam so beautifully bound, the red rope soft and erotic against his pale skin, being more than Roger could handle.
Roger knew what had caused Cam’s nerves to return. It was the night of the pack run, the first time that Cam had ever run with a pack. Roger had already spoken to Pearson, who had given permission for Cam to shift in his SUV. Normally wolves didn’t care about such niceties, but Roger didn’t want anyone seeing Cam naked, and Cam didn’t want anyone seeing his shift. Although he had shifted into his wolf form a few times since his first time in Roger’s house, Cam was still not as fluid as he would like to be. The fact that he didn’t want to embarrass Roger had Roger’s heart melting when he picked it up in their mind link. He just hoped that what he planned to do tonight, before the run, helped Cam to see how very special he was in every way.
Giving his mate a final hug, Roger strode onto the stage behind his Alpha, taking his place as one of the enforcers. Cam was standing in the wings with Teric, Devin and Levi. Running his hands down his jacket, Roger then crossed his arms, his feet slightly apart, keeping up with the staunch image that all of the enforcers wore.
Pearson was going over some minor pack matters, before mentioning Cam’s donation to pack funds. The money was going to be used to upgrade security for the club, add onto the playrooms at the back of the club, and provide a house for subs who had been kicked out of their pack and had nowhere to stay. The pack heartily approved of the plan and Roger knew he was going to have to keep an even closer eye on his mate. Now the whole pack knew he had money, he didn’t want Cam taken advantage of.
“There is one more matter to take care of before we head off for our run. Roger, the stage is yours. You can invite your mate to join you.”
Pearson, Dante and the other enforcers moved to form a semi-circle around Roger who indicated for Cam to join him. As with any time they were in a group situation, Cam kept his eyes focused on his mate, although he had his bottom lip caught between his teeth.
“Kneel Cam, and please look at me, just me.” Roger had no intention of going through a proper collaring ceremony. He was owned by his mate just as surely as Cam was his, but when he had talked to Pearson and Dante about doing this earlier, they had reassured him that he didn’t have to conform to BDSM tradition, and was free to make up his own rules. Roger wanted Cam to feel valued as his mate and his sub, not owned. Collaring was something that was important in the Bound and Bonded club, and even though he and Cam didn’t have a traditional Dom/sub relationship, other subs and Masters would respect the symbol he was offering. This was the last thing he wanted to do for Cam that Donoghue had tried to take away from him.
“Cam, you are not only the heart of the Washington Pack, you are the owner of my heart. Your submission is a gift that I will treasure always, but your love is the most precious thing anyone could ever give me, and I return it freely and without reservation. I promise to protect you, cherish you and love you till the end of my days, and forever thereafter.”
Roger fumbled in his pocket pulling out the collar he’d specially designed and had made to account for Cam’s human and wolf form. It was a deceptively simple gold chain. The solid links were almost an inch wide and in the center of five interlocking rings, was a solitary huge emerald, the exact shade of Cam’s eyes. Once Cam gave him permission to lock it around that beautiful neck, it could never be removed, giving his mate the permanence he had always craved.
“Once accepted, this collar can never be taken off. It has been designed to withstand your wolf and human form. I am asking you to accept it, as a symbol of our mating, the pride I have in you as my sub, and as a permanent reminder of the love we share. I am asking you in front of our Alpha, our friends and the rest of our pack. Will you wear my collar, Cam?”
For a long moment Cam didn’t say any words, although the boy’s eyes spoke volumes. Green eyes filled with love and so much gratitude. Soft tears tracked down his face and Cam’s lips twitched as though he wanted to get the words out, but couldn’t.
I need your words, my precious, Roger reminded his mate gently.
“Yes, I accept with everything that I am and all that I have. You are my forever,” Cam’s words were so hushed but Roger heard them as clear as a church bell. As did the rest of the pack who cheered and howled as Roger bent down and locked the collar around Cam’s offered neck. It sat loosely just above the mating mark and Roger couldn’t help the swell of pride he felt in his whole body.
Bending down, Roger took Cam in his arms, holding him close for a moment, before taking his lips in a passionate kiss. The crowd fell away, Roger could barely hear the noise around them and a bomb could take out the whole building, and he was sure he wouldn’t notice. Cam held his whole focus, just as it should be.
/> Better than a wedding, definitely better than a collaring ceremony. Roger had sworn an oath that meant everything to him, in front of his Alpha and his whole pack. Despite their past, and the mistakes that Roger made and would never forget, his beloved mate had accepted him and Roger couldn’t be happier. In his arms he held forever.
The End
