Home Sweet Murder Page 17

  Gypsy,

I’ll never know if I was crazy or not, but I very much doubt it. I have doubted many things in my lifetime, but never my sanity- or you. I knew you’d come back one day, and now I have to explain myself. I never wanted to send you away that summer. I wanted you to live with me permanently. When I broached the subject with your mother, she said yes. And then she said no. Apparently, she met a handsome and wealthy man who was going to take care of you two. She accused me of turning you against her and demanded that I send you home. It broke my heart to do what I did, but I did not want you to resent her. I resent her. But I’m allowed to.

I hope you can forgive me. I know things did not go the way you wanted them to. Last I heard you were in Indonesia. You never stopped running. But it is time to stop now. You know it is.

  Welcome home, Allegra.
