“Seth, I’m so sorry she did this to you,” Mia exclaimed.
I was blown away. How could she be so caring right now? I had lied to her. I had hurt her.
“Mia, I swear, I was going to tell you last Sunday about Britley. I just wasn’t sure how to explain it. I love you so much and I never wanted to hurt you,” I explained.
I needed her to know that I would never intentionally do anything to destroy what we have. I can tell she still cares for me, I just hope I didn’t ruin my chances of keeping her.
“I wish you would have told me sooner. I could have helped you. We could have handled this together. Plus, we could have shut down all the nasty rumors going on about you. What you and your family were going to do for this girl,” Mia says, as she sneers at Britley, “was remarkable. You would be credited for being a stand-up guy, not talked about behind your back like you did something wrong. The only person despicable around here is her,” Mia finishes.
I feel so much pride listening to Mia once again, have my back. I don't deserve someone like her, but I will damn sure spend the rest of my life trying to be the guy she deserves.
As I take a moment to breathe, a realization hits me like a semi-truck. Without there being a baby any longer, I am free. While I feel a bit of sadness knowing I will never have that piece of my brother, it is relieving to know that I won’t have to worry about raising a baby while in high school. My future just opened up and the possibilities are now endless.
“Come on, let’s get out of here,” I say to Mia, as I begin to lead us away from a very shocked Britley.
Before we get to the parking lot, I turn and look back at her one last time. “I am giving you until tomorrow to tell my family what you did. After that, I will make sure everyone in this town knows what a fraud you really are,” I say, before walking away with the love of my life.
I help Mia back into her Range Rover and we both sit silently for a minute. I turn in my seat to face her and Mia is already staring at me, waiting for me to say something.
“I dont want to just be some guy you once knew,” I rush out, taking both her hands in mine. “I know this is all a lot to handle. The secets, the lies, the gossiping. But, I promise, that is all over now. I love you, Mia. I have since the first day I met you. I know I lost your trust, but if you let me, I will work forever to build it back. I just want to be the only guy you care about, the only guy in your life, and the only guy you will ever love,” I finish, staring deep into her eyes.
Mia just looks at me for a moment and I see that she is fighting back tears.
“Nothing you do or say will change how I feel about you. I love you too, Seth. I’m upset that you hid everything from me, but I understand why. I guess you will just have to make it up to me,” she says, a slight smirk playing on her lips.
And there she is, the beautiful, sarcastic, and stubborn girl I love. She is back and I know without a shadow of doubt, she will be by my side forever.

Mia
We pull up in my driveway and Isaac’s truck is parked beside Seth’s bike. A very confused Isaac stares as Seth and I get out of my Range Rover.
“Anyone want to tell me what the hell is going on?” Isaac yells, as he rushes upon us.
Seth steps in front of me as a shield, but I can handle myself with my brother.
“Calm down, Isaac,” I say, holding my hands up to stop him.
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” he roars. “I got a call from the school that you were sick and came home. When I got here, I find Seth’s bike but you are nowhere to be found,” he yells.
Seth and I both looked at one another before turning back to Isaac. I guess we have to come clean now. I begin filling Isaac in on everything that has transpired over the last few weeks. I share how Seth and I kept our relationship hidden to protect ourselves and those around us. I tell him how Seth hid Britley from me, but that she had been lying about the baby all along. Finally, I tell him how I love and adore Seth with all my heart. When I am finished, I look between the two most important guys in my life. Seth has tears in his eyes and a look of pure admiration on his face. Isaac looks confused, but calmer than before.
“I don’t understand girls,” Isaac muttered, as he shakes his head. “So, you and Seth are a couple now?” he asks.
“Yes,” I say, holding Seth’s hand.
“And, there is no baby?” Isaac asks.
“Nope, it was all a lie,” Seth chimes in.
“I’m really sorry you and your family had to go through that, but I am happy that you won’t have that burden to deal with. Now, you can focus on your future,” Isaac says to Seth.
I am beyond excited that everything is finally working out for us. To be honest, I had feared that I would never be happy again after my parents died. Then when I met Seth, I didn’t think I could find anyone to love me. But now, my life is perfect and Seth and I have a real chance of being together and having a future together. Nothing can tear us apart now.
Within the blink of an eye, Seth wraps his arms around my waist and pulls in close to him. His lips crashing down on mine and in that moment, I don’t care that we are in front of my brother. I don’t care that only hours before, I had been heartbroken over this boy. Now, all that mattered was the love we shared here in Hollow Cove.
“You realize now that I will never leave your side,” Seth whispers into my ear.
I smile and giggle as Isaac quickly retreats into the house, shaking his head and mumbling something about stupid teenage love.
Turning to face Seth, I kiss him again. “Good, because I am kind of obsessed with you,” I tease.
“Damn straight you are,” Seth says as he holds me tightly.
“I dare you to hold my hand,” I say, raising my brows at him.
“Forever and always,” Seth states, before taking my hand and kissing it gently.
A text from Grace alerts me to the whereabouts of my phone. The beeping is coming from the front yard. Seth and I walk hand-in-hand to retrieve it. I pick it up and laugh as I read the message from my best friend.
Grace: Rumor is, you and your boyfriend are a hot new item!
Me: Tell everyone it’s not a rumor. It is true. Later, I have some more news to share, too.
I tuck the phone back inside my pocket, knowing later I will have to fill her in on everything that went down today. Grace is truly a great friend and I wouldn’t have survived the first year of my parent’s death without her by my side.
We stand there on my driveway, wrapped in one another arms, as our lives finally piece back together. We have come so far, yet, we still have so much more to learn. I know Seth will continue to work hard to gain acceptance into the Raven’s Boys Club, while I continue to grow through the loss of my parents. I am just happy that I finally have my Hollow Cove dream come true. With Seth by my side, we are destined for greatness. Our story isn’t over yet, it is just beginning.
