“Happy New Year, Holloway.”
Calder stiffened, his entire body seeming to lift and tighten as he paused, then whipped around. Nostrils flared, eyes narrowed, he glared down the source of that nasally rasp behind me. My inner wolf snarled again, and my body suddenly hummed with energy. If I didn’t rein her in, I’d shift. Swallowing hard, I took a deep breath and slowly turned around, clutching my coat, a shield of nylon and cotton.
A shield against two vampires, their angular, porcelain faces illuminated by the latest batch of fireworks. Red. Orange. Blue. Flashing purple. Then back to deathly white. The pair wore gnarly leather jackets, jeans, and thin cotton tees. The only things durable enough for this climate were their worn hiking boots, tips splattered with something suspiciously dark.
Stained.
Bloodstained, maybe.
I stood taller, shoulders back, chin lifted, as Calder strolled to my side. He didn’t run, I noticed. In contrast to his tight expression, the vampire sauntered like he hadn’t a care in the world.
“Strange company you keep these days, Holloway,” the bald vampire mused with a nod toward me. His dusky companion smirked, hands clasped in front of him.
“Not much to do this far north.” Calder tipped his head to the side, appraising them, his whole demeanor frosty. “What are you doing here, boys?”
The vampiric pair glanced at each other, and the six-foot-four beanpole sporting a head of luscious chocolate brown hair shrugged.
“Oh, you know, the usual,” he offered, his accent suggesting Spanish roots. Piping-hot kinetic energy thrummed through me, my inner wolf demanding I shift, demanding I run, demanding I howl to the moonless sky and charge. In the distance, more cheers—cheers from my boss, my colleagues, my friends—as a particularly intricate array of colors flashed across the black. I crossed my arms tighter, hugging my jacket and frowning when Calder stepped in front of me. The brunet vamp some ten feet from us leaned to the side, peering at me around him. “We’re just… seeing the sights. Meeting the people. Sampling the local cuisine.”
“Getting a bit of hunting in,” the bald vampire added, and my blood ran cold when he too set his sights on me. His companion flashed a cruel smile.
“Surely you of all vampires know, Holloway—this time of year, wolf’s in season…”

Thank you so much for reading! You are faaaabulous.
Also. My b about that cliffhanger. It was a rough one, I know, but Calder and Emma will be back in the totally kick-ass, sexy, nail-biting conclusion February 2019.
(Book 2 is also 25% LONGER than Book 1, so yeaaaay!)
If you enjoyed the first half of Calder and Emma’s paranormal romance and want to support the duet, please consider leaving a review at the retailer of your choice, including Goodreads. Reviews help indie authors thrive, and I read all of them.
Lots of love,
Liz

About the Author
Liz is a Canadian author who grew up in the Middle East. She has a degree in Bioarchaeology from Western University, and when she isn't writing about her own snarky characters, she is reading about other people’s snarky characters, babying her herb garden, loitering on social media, or taking care of her many animals.
Liz dabbles in both paranormal and contemporary erotic romance. Her paranormals are usually dark and angsty, and her contemporaries are stress-free smutfests, but you'll find both full of feels. Most of all, she loves writing realistic characters in fantastical settings.
