CHAPTER TWO
The CURE for Unbelief
What is the Master’s cure for unbelief?
Mark 6:5-6
” And He could there do no mighty work, save that He laid His hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And He marveled because of their unbelief. AND HE WENT ROUND ABOUT THE VILLAGES, TEACHING.”
The anointed Son of God held a crusade in his own home town and none of the cripple, blind, deaf, paralyzed, demon-possessed that came received their healing. Jesus could only manage to heal a few folk by the laying on of hands on them. After Jesus had marveled at the unbelief of the people, He proceeded to do something! He committed to, and emphasized more on TEACHING from then on in His earthly ministry! He dedicated all of His time to educate and enlighten the people! He realized that what was destroying the people was their lack of knowledge of who He is and His mission. The direct response of the Anointed Christ to the problem of unbelief in a whole locality was TEACHING! TEACHING! And more TEACHING!!! He began to teach round about the villages and towns! He attacked the monster of unbelief by launching a planned, consistent teaching assault. He constantly made people aware of what His mission was!
About the only effective way to suffocate unbelief is by teaching a faith-wall around it!
I am sure that among the things Jesus told the people is the statement recorded in the book of Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.” The Lord Jesus deliberately taught the people round about the villages that God has anointed Him by His Spirit to preach, teach and to heal. And the folks that believed Him got their miracles. Teaching that supply the needed understanding is the remedy!
Jesus did not just pray away unbelief out of the people; He flushed it out of them by teaching them! We need to realize that before a person can be enduringly helped, his spirit must be educated in the life giving Word of God. You cannot permanently help a man apart from faith! And faith comes by the repeated hearing of the Word of God. This calls for a seeking and learning attitude coupled with an open mind from the one who seeks freedom from unbelief. In Matt 17: 19-20, the disciples of Jesus went back to Him to ask Him why they had failed and He told them it was their unbelief and went on to further explain the necessity of faith-backed action to them. In Matt 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.” Learning precedes rest.
How did Apostle Paul admonish us to deal with unbelief?
Hebrews 4:11
Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
Apostle Paul recommended a labor to enter into the rest of faith. We have to labor in the Word! To study and receive the Word of God, we have to labor to develop our faith!
