I smiled at the memory and felt her laugh before I heard it. “What’s so funny?”

She pulled back and tipped her head back to look at me. “Just thinking how strange it is that Max ended up with him.”

He grinned. “It wasn’t a super obvious fit at first, was it?”

She shook her head, still smiling at the memory of how her friend found love with the guy no one expected her to like let alone love. “Not obvious, no. But no stranger than you and me, right?”

“Babe...” I cupped her face in the palm of my hands, loving that gorgeous grin she wore as she gazed up at me. “Don’t say we aren’t right for each other, the way I see it is we aren’t right for anyone else.”

She laughed at the quote from The Cutting Edge, the latest in a long list of movies we’d watched together. “That is so cheesy.”

“It was your friend’s recommendation,” I pointed out.

When Charlotte’s friend Simone had learned that Charlotte wanted to study human emotions through movies, she’d crafted a list.

We’d had movie night dates almost every weekend for a year and we’d barely made a dent.

We both turned toward the dorms, my arm snug around her shoulders and hers around my waist as we made our way back home.

“When we get back from Thanksgiving break, I’m picking the next movie,” she said. “Something with some intellect and not such a far-fetched premise.”

I nodded, pretending to think it over. “So Sharknado then?”

She gave a snort of amusement. “Exactly.”

I laughed as I kissed the top of her head. “For a girl with such a high IQ, your choice in movies is pretty low-brow, you know that?”

She shrugged before giving me the cutest, smuggest little smile. “Yeah, well...what I lack in good taste in movies, I more than make up for in my taste in guys.”

I puffed out my chest. “Oh yeah?”

“Yeah.” She burrowed farther into my side as a chilly breeze struck us, whipping her long hair around her face. “I have excellent taste in boyfriends.”

“I’m not going to argue there,” I said. My heart felt like it might explode from happiness when she stopped walking and twisted in my arms to face me.

  Marry me.

I bit the words back, holding them close even though they wanted to escape. We were too young for that step. Neither of us was ready.

But I couldn’t wait until we were.

“What are you thinking about right now?” she asked.

This was one of her favorite games—and mine.

  “The future,” I said.

Her smile was slow and sweet. “Am I in it?”

“Oh babe...” I leaned down and kissed her with all the love I felt in my heart. “You are my future.”
