He chuckles, and I find myself laughing, too. I don’t remember when the last time I did that was.
“You sure you want to do this?” he asks.
“What else is there for us?”
He sighs. “Nothing, I guess.”
The rest catch up to us, all antsy and eager to get started. I find that Cacy, Connor, Corey, and Rachel all look to me. With a sinking feeling, I wonder if they’ve started to see me as some kind of leader. The thought is terrifying, so I ignore it.
I turn to the others and take a deep breath. “Everyone ready to go?”
They all nod, even if their faces appear a bit unsure. It will have to be enough, for now.
“Then let’s go.”
