Bishop blushes even worse than me, and Seph tries to hide her snicker with a cough. Hudson scowls but doesn’t say another word.
“We didn’t think you’d actually show. We figured you’d be too busy,” Seph says, waggling her eyebrows at us.
“We had some news we wanted to celebrate, so your text came at the perfect time,” Pax says.
Bishop makes a strangled, excited sound. “Oh my god, did you guys get engaged?”
“Whoa, no, we’ve only been officially dating a few weeks; we’re not rushing down the aisle,” Pax assures him. “But we are moving in together.”
“Oh my gosh, that’s so exciting,” Seph squeals, clapping her hands together.
“Fair warning, Pax leaves dirty underwear all over the place, and he always leaves the bathroom a mess,” Hudson advises.
“That was back in college,” Pax says, rolling his eyes.
“I don’t care if he’s messy,” I say, looking up at Pax with a smile.
“You guys are gross,” Hudson complains.
“I think it’s sweet,” Bishop counters.
“I need another drink,” Hudson says, hopping off his stool and heading over to the bar.
Pax joins him, getting us a couple of drinks and then returning to the table.
“Apparently Hudson found someone more interesting than his friends,” Bishop says when Hudson chooses to crash a table full of cute guys rather than return to sit with us. I reach across the table and pat his hand. The gesture feels a little awkward, but when he smiles at me, I know it was the right thing to do.
Seph talks my ear off about decorating Pax’s place so it will feel like ours instead of his, while Bishop chats with Pax and seems to do his best not to look at Hudson every few seconds. Eventually, Bishop gets up to get himself another drink. I watch as the bartender leans over the bar a little, smiling at him.
“Is he flirting?” I ask Pax, nodding my head toward the two of them. He follows my gaze and chuckles.
“Yup. It can be tricky to tell with someone angling for tips, but his body language is definitely giving him away he wants more than a tip from our friend Bishop.”
Bishop seems to soak up the attention, blushing and grinning back at the tattooed, muscular bartender. When he gets his drink, he looks back over in our direction with a question in his eyes. Pax waves him away, and Bishop smiles again, claiming a seat at the bar instead of coming back over to sit with us.
We stay and chat with Seph a little longer before Pax declares it time to go home and get some sleep. Yes, he says it so suggestively I swear my face has to be as red as a tomato as Seph laughs and tells us to have fun.
We stop by the bar to say goodbye to Bishop before we go.
“You good, man?” Pax checks.
Bishop glances over at the bartender who’s currently serving another customer, but who’s barely left his side since he sat down over an hour ago.
“Yeah, Riot seems really nice. I’m going to hang out until his shift ends.”
“All right, be safe.” Pax claps his friend on the shoulder and then waves at Hudson from across the bar as we head out.
“He’s going to have sex with the bartender even though he’s in love with Hudson?” I ask once we’re outside.
“Sometimes relationships are complicated, Nerdlet.”
“You’re telling me,” I huff out a chuckle. “I still think rocket science makes a lot more sense than all this.” I wave between us and Pax smiles.
“Maybe, but our explosions are more fun,” he jokes, sweeping me up into his arms.
“I’m not sure about that,” I tease. “Take me home and let’s find out.”
Epilogue
Four Years Later
Elijah
“I think this is the last one; where does it go?” Pax asks, coming into the kitchen with a box in his arms, his muscles straining the sleeves of his t-shirt, the tattoos on his arms glistening from exertion. I lick my lips, my cock growing hard as I mentally undress him. “Einstein, my eyes are up here,” he teases, and I flick my gaze to his face with a grin.
“Sorry, but there are other parts of you that are a lot more interesting than your eyes.”
“Is that so? Am I nothing but a piece of meat to you?” he jokes, and I shrug with a smirk.
He lets the box fall from his arms, hitting the floor with a thud.
“Hey, there could’ve been something fragile in there,” I complain, rounding the counter of our brand-new kitchen to see what exactly might’ve been damaged. But before I can open the box, Pax’s arms come around my waist, and he lifts me onto the counter. His lips press against mine, my legs going instantly around his waist.
I kiss him back hungrily, running my hands through his hair, tugging at it just a little as I meet his tongue with my own, giving as good as I get. His hands wander over my hips until they make their way to the front of my jeans, unzipping my pants with the kind of ease and familiarity that comes with four years of bliss. Okay, maybe it hasn’t all been bliss. Hudson was one hundred percent right about Pax’s slobbish ways and yes, they absolutely drive me crazy. But, mostly bliss.
It took him about a year to lose his fear that he might cheat or that I might get sick of his work schedule. I was never worried about either, not really.
His mouth is hot against mine, his lips salty from sweat after hauling boxes all morning. I reach between us and open his pants too, pulling his thick, hard cock out of his underwear and stroking it in my hand a few times. He grunts into my mouth, his tongue tangling with mine, before he bats my hand away and takes over.
His large hand encircles both our shafts. I moan, letting my head fall back, my fingers digging into Pax’s shoulders as he jerks us off together. Our precum mixes, slicking the way for his fist as he strokes us, rotating his right every time he reaches our heads.
“Oh god, just like that,” I moan.
He kisses along my throat, nipping and licking at my skin. His balls bounce against mine with every jerk of our cocks.
I tighten my legs around his waist, thrusting into his fist, our moans filling the kitchen and echoing off the walls. For the first time ever, we’re not in an apartment so we don’t have to worry about being quiet for neighbors. Not that we were ever particularly quiet, but now we don’t have to worry.
“Fuck,” he groans, his cock pulsing against mine, thick, milky cum spilling over my erection as he continues to jerk us. That’s all it takes to send me over the edge, my balls tightening so hard I can hardly breathe, my orgasm thundering through me as my release joins his in covering both of us.
He works his hand over us until we’re both over-sensitive and starting to soften.
“Are you sure you’re happy?” I ask the question that’s been on my mind since I took the job with NASA that required us to move from California to Texas.
Pax glances down at our cum soaked skin, our softening cocks still hanging out obscenely, and he chuckles. “Yeah, I’m pretty happy, Nerdlet.”
“Not about the sex.” I push his shoulder and roll my eyes. “I mean with our lives. You’re sure you’re okay living in Texas and taking this promotion that’s going to keep you in the office instead of traveling?”
“I’m a little nervous about being in the same office day in and day out, but I think I’m ready to put the traveling behind me and be home with you during the week. Besides, I think Winston and Leo will be much happier to have me around more,” he points out, and on cue our two snorty, smelly pugs come trotting into the kitchen.
“I’ll be glad to have you around more too. I just want to make sure it’s what you want.”
“Einstein, listen to me.” He cups my jaw in his hand and holds my gaze. “You are the absolute love of my life. If we needed to move to the moon for you to do your crazy scientist shit, then that’s what we’d do.”
“We’re a least a decade from having a NASA branch stationed on the moon,” I assure him.
“At least the boxes will weigh less wh
en we move there,” he counters.
“I love you too, by the way.” I lean in and kiss his lips again, still giddy after four years at the fact that I can, that he’s all mine to kiss him all I want.
“I know,” he says solemnly, ruining it with that shit-eating grin of his. I shove his shoulder again and when he steps back, I slide off the counter and tuck myself into my jeans, zipping them back up.
“Oh, there’s just one more thing, Nerdlet,” he says, stepping back and making himself decent as well. Then, he reaches into his pocket and drops to one knee.
“What’s happening?”
“Shh, I’m trying to do something here,” he scolds. He holds a small box out, flipping the lid open in a fluid motion to display a dark silver ring. “I’ve been thinking about this whole speech for weeks now and to be honest, I’m not sure how to fit everything you make me feel into a few sentences. You’re the smartest, sexiest, most incredible man I’ve ever known, and I’m hoping like hell you’ll agree to let me spend the rest of my life in awe of the fact that you actually chose me.”
I cover my mouth with my hands to hide the unattractive gaping thing my mouth is doing without my permission. “What is happening?” I ask again, my brain unable to process the moment.
“I’m proposing,” he explains with a laugh. “Say yes?”
“Oh my god, are you kidding?” I gasp. “Yes, of course. Come back up here before I faint.” I wave him up off his knees and take the ring he hands to me.
“It’s made from a meteorite; I thought you’d like it.”
“It’s amazing.” I run my index finger over the smooth metal in wonder before looking at Pax again. “This is the complete opposite of casual,” I point out.
“I’m aware. I figured we moved past casual a while ago—the time seemed right to take the big step.”
“You think we’re ready?” I ask, stepping into his arms and resting my head against his chest.
“What’s to be ready for?” Pax counters. “It’s marriage, not rocket science.”

About the Author
Author K.M.Neuhold is a complete romance junkie, a total sap in every way. She started her journey as an author in new adult, MF romance, but after a chance reading of an MM book she was completely hooked on everything about lovely- and sometimes damaged- men finding their Happily Ever After together. She has a strong passion for writing characters with a lot of heart and soul, and a bit of humor as well. And she fully admits that her OCD tendencies of making sure every side character has a full backstory will likely always lead to every book having a spin-off or series. When she’s not writing she’s a lion tamer, an astronaut, and a superhero…just kidding, she’s likely watching Netflix and snuggling with her husky while her amazing husband brings her coffee.
