Aidan (The Doherty Mafia Book 2) Page 11

However, I’d sensed his eyes on me throughout the night. He’d watched me from a distance, and I didn’t know if it was because he wanted to keep an eye on me or because he admired me.

  I’d admired him all night.

He looked handsome in his dark suit. It was tailored to his exact fit, accentuating every strong muscle in his body. The navy suit matched his eyes perfectly. It made me weak in the knees.

When he finally walked towards me, there was a part of me that just wanted to turn and run away. I was afraid of what he’d say—tell me to go home? Tell me this was a mistake? That he shouldn’t have gotten me involved with his family?

I was sure he wasn’t thinking the same things I was…about what it might have been like if we were a family. I was sure he didn’t feel the same way I did anymore. This was fun. This was supposed to be a casual thing for old time’s sake.

“How was your night? Sorry if it was a little full on.”

I was surprised by his words. I prepared to get defensive, and instead, he wanted to see if I was comfortable.

“It was fun! I got to see your family up close and personal for the first time. They’re all so nice and friendly.”

  “Not scary?”

I laughed at that. “Not at all.”

Aidan grinned too. He looked past me at Killian and Reese on the dance floor. I could see the softness in his eyes, and the fact that he truly cared very deeply for his brother and even for his new fiancé. They didn’t know how lucky they were to have Aidan on their side.

Once again, I teetered on the verge of just confessing everything.

I was drenched in guilt for hiding so much from him when he opened himself up to me. It had to be a difficult thing to do for him. Aidan wasn’t exactly an open book.

“Do you want to come home with me tonight?” he asked, interrupting my thoughts.

I nodded as we smiled at each other.

And once again, I walked away from the opportunity to tell him everything. I was a coward.

And maybe it was because I was guilty and hated myself for being that cowardly…but those were just excuses. The real reason why I went back to his apartment and undressed in the dark was because I wanted him.

I wanted him to touch me. I wanted to wake up next to him and feel the warmth of his body all night.

Aidan slipped off his jacket while he watched me pull down the zip of my dress. His eyes were fixed on me. My dress fell to the floor.

I had black lace lingerie on and I was wet just by the way he stared at me—examining every curve and freckle on my body.

I went up to him and undid his pants. He didn’t make a move. He gave me full freedom to do what I wanted.

I wanted to make him feel good.

I wanted to be a part of him somehow—even though I knew I couldn’t be a part of his family.

I got down on my knees, pulling down his underwear. I had to balance myself on the high back heels I wore, but I knew he liked them. I’d caught him staring at my shoes and the way it made my calves look.

His big cock was rigid and ready. My pussy throbbed and was damp with my cream.

I parted my mouth wide and took him in. He slipped deep in with a quick smooth thrust. I almost gagged but composed myself, looking up at his blue eyes. They watched me, waiting to see what I would do next.

I grabbed his balls with one hand and started moving my head back and forth on his cock. He filled my mouth with his thick, throbbing cock. The sensation of him pulsating on my tongue sent me on a spiral.

With my other hand, I touched myself.

The more I sucked on him, the harder I rubbed my clit until I felt him on the verge of coming.

Then he grabbed my hair. My bun came loose and all my red hair toppled down around my shoulders. He lifted me up by my hair. My breasts heaved. I shuddered with desire.

I was ready for anything he wanted to do to me.

Aidan’s eyes bore into me and he let out a deep grunt. Then he leaned forward, grabbing me by my hips before he threw me over his shoulder. I gasped with joy.

Was there anything hotter than being manhandled by him?

I knew I wasn’t as light as a feather, but that’s how he made me feel when he carried me like that.

All the way to his bedroom, where he threw me on his bed.

I was curved on the edge of the bed. My stomach flat on it, while my knees were bent on the floor. He had my butt in his hands, molding and shaping me just the way he wanted.

Without another word, he parted my legs wide and penetrated my pussy from behind. Then he fucked me hard until we both came together, groaning and bursting at the seams.

When he was done, he slapped my butt and I fell forward in the bed. My pussy still throbbed. I was out of breath. I was sure I would end up crying.

But I didn’t cry. I had to hold it together, so I did. I couldn’t allow myself to fall apart like that because then Aidan would know for sure that something was up. I was surprised he didn’t already figure out I was hiding something.

“I’m going to have a shower,” he said, taking off his shirt.

I slipped into his bed, covering myself with the sheets in the hopes that I’d somehow be able to cover my shame and guilt too.

When I heard the shower come on, I sighed with relief, knocking my head back on the pillows and allowing myself to finally breathe a little.

Aidan was right—today was full on.

So much had happened, and now I felt too overwhelmed to keep doing this.

How much longer would I be able to deceive him like that?

As much as I wanted to protect my secret and keep my mother alive, I wasn’t a liar. That wasn’t who I was. When did I become one?

Now, the only thing I did was lie to and deceive Aidan. He didn’t deserve it. I didn’t deserve him.

I pressed my eyes close and started thinking about what options I had.

I could…end it? If I removed myself from the equation, then the Barons wouldn’t have anyone to threaten and use. Was it that simple?

Was I really allowing my mind to go to a dark place like that? I felt sick.

But then my eyes flew open when I realized I hadn’t heard anything from Aldo Baron in a few days. None of his men had shown up at the apartment.

In fact, it didn’t even seem like I was being followed or watched.

Was it possible that maybe…just maybe, they’d forgotten about me? Maybe they figured out how useless I would be to them and they’d just given up on ever extracting anything from me?

I felt an excited shudder run through me.

Aidan stepped out of the bathroom at that moment. His hair was damp. He had a towel wrapped around his waist. His torso was muscular and hard, chiseled and wide. His eyes landed on me and I sat up.

My breasts were there for him to take. My body was his.

I felt a sudden rush of relief at the thought that maybe the Barons had forgotten about me.

Today had been the best day I have had in a very long time.

Aidan came over and caught my face in both hands.

“Is it crazy that I missed you in the shower?” he asked.

I reached for him, wrapping my arms around his neck so he could pull me up.

“Yeah, everything about this is crazy,” I admitted.

  Twenty-One

  Aidan

When I woke up the next morning, I reached for Leah immediately in my bed. It was instinctual. It was like my body acted before my brain even had a chance to think. I sat up straight in bed and then I heard her softly humming in the kitchen. She was making us breakfast.

  Fuck.

This was getting out of hand.

I rubbed my face vigorously like I was trying to wipe off a stain.

The last few days spent with Leah had completely changed things around.

Right until I got that fateful phone call from her—I coped. I lived life. Did my job. Lived the best way I had learned how to for the past five years.
<
br />   And now I was here, falling back in love with a girl I’d vowed to forget.

Was Colin right? Did I really know what I was doing?

  No, I didn’t.

The more time I spent with her, the more this turned into a relationship, rather than a fast fuck.

We woke up with each other every morning now. I fell back into my addiction to her. I wanted to see her every day. Every night. For fuck’s sake—I introduced her to my family. She was there at my brother’s engagement party!

I jumped out of bed like I’d been burned.

I couldn’t be in a relationship right now. We were in the middle of a war and I didn’t need the liability of a woman in my life.

More importantly, if she ran from me once—what was to say she wouldn’t do it again? How could I trust her?

How could I trust myself to hold on to her this time?

Spending any amount of time with Leah was a bad idea and we had spent too much time together already.

While I put on my pants, Leah emerged from behind the bedroom door. She wore nothing but an apron.

Her tits were big and luscious, just ripe for the picking. The apron barely covered her pussy and her ass was on full display. She had a bright smile on her face. Undoubtedly, she could see the effect her body had on me.

  I was already hard.

I had no self control when it came to her.

“Breakfast? I made eggs and bacon. We’re out of creamer for the coffee, but I managed to make one mug for you with what was left.”

  Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

All this sounded too fucking domestic for me to handle.

I put on a shirt and followed her into the kitchen where I saw she had rearranged a few things on the counter. She’d even found a tablecloth for the table. I had to admit the kitchen looked brighter and neater. Leah was taking over my life and I needed to act fast.

I needed to push her out of my life before she got too comfortable here.

I couldn’t make myself eat the breakfast she’d cooked for me.

She stood there in my kitchen, wearing nothing but an apron, with a spatula in her hand and her face shining with joy and happiness.

  I couldn’t do this anymore.

I needed to force myself to end things between us, especially now that my family was involved and I hadn’t been completely honest with them. I needed her out of my life and I wanted answers.

I put my cutlery down with a bang on the table as she stood over me, pouring freshly squeezed orange juice into a glass.

There was nothing I wanted to do more than pull her down and fuck her right there on the kitchen table.

“What were you doing with that guy?” I blurted.

Leah stopped pouring. Her face went ashen pale and she stared at me like a deer caught in the headlights would.

I could see her bare skin prickling with goosebumps now. She sure wished she’d put some clothes on.

“Who are you talking about? Is this someone at the party last night?” she asked meekly.

I noticed how she quickly stepped away from me, busying herself with putting the jug of orange juice away.

“No, this isn’t about last night. The guy who met you outside your apartment a couple of days ago. The guy who works for Aldo Baron.”

Leah still had her back turned to me. I wanted to see her face—look into her eyes, but I didn’t want to physically force her to talk. Not yet.

“You followed me?” she finally whispered.

I stood up. With two long strides, I’d closed the gap between us. I placed a hand on her shoulder and spun her around.

Her naked body was fucking distracting. My cock throbbed with desire for her and my brain tried to take control of the situation at the same time. This was a fucking disaster!

“You need to tell me exactly what you were doing talking to a guy who works for our family rival.”

“Aidan! You followed me! Why were you watching me?” She screamed this time and shook my hand off her shoulder.

I could feel myself starting to crack on the surface again. I didn’t want to upset her. I didn’t want her to feel like she couldn’t trust me…no! I needed to stay on course. I needed answers.

It didn’t matter how she ‘felt’.

I breathed in deeply and finally, she plucked up the courage to meet my eyes.

“Go to the bedroom and put on your clothes. After that, you’re going to come out here and tell me the truth. I’ll answer all your questions once you’ve answered mine,” I said.

Her nostrils flared. She tried to find a suitable retort, but she knew she didn’t have one. She was trapped and had no choice but to follow my orders.

  Twenty-Two

  Leah

  I was relieved.

When Aidan sent me to his room to put some clothes on, I couldn’t run out of the kitchen fast enough. I needed to cover up because I was stark naked. He could see just how on edge I was because I had nowhere to hide.

But as I fumbled with my black cocktail dress from the previous night, having given up on ever locating my lingerie, I couldn’t help but feel a flood of relief flood through me.

All this time while I tried to enjoy my fleeting time with Aidan—I walked on eggshells, expecting all of it to suddenly blow up in my face without warning. I had no idea that he’d seen me talking to that guy. This wasn’t the way I expected it all to come out—but now that it was happening, I felt like a huge weight could finally be lifted off my shoulder.

At first I fumbled, tried to hide the truth and distract him from the conversation by blaming him for spying on me. However, it quickly became apparent that Aidan wasn’t going to simply forget about it. He would force me to admit the truth, whether I wanted to or not.

My dress seemed awkward and inappropriate now as I walked back to the kitchen in it.

Aidan had pushed his plate full of food away and was sitting at the table. He glanced at me, but not in the same way he usually looked at me. I was desperate for him to look at me like that again.

“Are you ready to talk?” he asked, and I licked my lips nervously.

Without answering his question, I went over to the sink to pour myself a glass of water. I guess I tried to buy time even though I knew no amount of time in this world would help me prepare for what I needed to admit to him.

Aidan watched me closely. He wasn’t letting me go.

I sipped the cold water and thankfully, that soothed me a little.

What excuse would give him now? What possible explanation could I have for that guy wanting to talk to me?

By this time, it was obvious Aidan already knew I was trying to hide something. I acted fishy and defensive. He knew me too well for that. I’d already dragged this out longer than necessary.

“Leah, I’m not going to sit around here waiting for you to ‘fess up. You either tell me the truth or I’ll make you tell me.” There was real venom in his voice. I didn’t know what he meant by that and I didn’t want to know.

I knew enough about him to be sure he could be dangerous when he wanted to be.

“He came to talk to me because he wanted information on you and your family,” I replied.

Aidan sat back in the chair, clenching his jaws tightly. An angry vein throbbed in the centre of his forehead and I knew he took this badly.

I waited in silence for a response from him but nothing was forthcoming. Aidan rubbed a hand over his face and it seemed like he was trying to compose himself.

  What would come next?

Threats? Ultimatums? Punishments…but not the sexy kind.

I stood before him with my arms by my side. My nails worried the skin around the edges. I dug furiously. It was a nervous tic. With every passing moment, I became more and more anxious.

Anything he chose to do to me now—would be justified.

But Aidan finally drew his hand away from his face and gave me a deep stare.

“Tell me exactly what happened, Leah. I want you to be completely honest
. This is fucking important.”

I nodded. I was ready to tell him everything…well, almost everything.

“I returned to town when I got a phone call about my mom being on her deathbed. That part is completely true. I knew there was a chance I’d bump into you, but other than that, I tried not to think about you. Being with my mother in her final moments was what was important to me.”

Aidan said nothing, waiting for me to continue. Of course, he had nothing to say. Maybe he didn’t believe a single word from me and I couldn’t blame him.

“And then when I got here, Aldo Baron and his guys jumped on me out of the blue. At first, I had no idea what they were talking about. They locked themselves in my apartment, completely overpowering me. They threatened me. Hurt me. Then it became very clear that they knew everything about me. And you. They knew about our relationship. Aldo said he had me followed and tracked all these years. That he likes to keep track of all his business associates and the people in their lives so he can use that information when and if he needs to at a later date.”

I shuddered as I spoke, because I could recall the exact moment when Aldo Baron confronted me. The things he had said. I could still feel those exact sensations of fear and helplessness. I felt so alone. Like anything could have happened to me and nobody would’ve known or found out.

It had reminded me how truly alone I was in the world.

Aidan’s eyes had grown heavy and dark. He studied me closely, probably trying to figure out if I was lying or not.

I wasn’t lying. I told him exactly what happened. The threats that were made. The way Aldo had trapped me in a corner.

The only thing I didn’t tell him was about the pregnancy and the baby I had given up. I didn’t tell him how Aldo had used that against me too.

I knew I had to be honest with Aidan, but I still had to consider the consequences of telling him everything.
