Now You Wanna Come Back 2 Page 20

Leila struggled on the floor, trying to get Karen off of her. She pushed as hard as she could and finally succeeded. She tried to scramble for the door, but Karen was on her again, and the blade caught Leila’s calf. She screamed again and kicked Karen in the face with all of her might, trying to get to her gun. Karen fell backward.

Leila scrambled to her feet with blood dripping from her shoulder and leg, and it stung like hell. Karen was up on her feet and blocked the door and the path to Leila’s gun.

“I’m going to kill you, bitch!” Karen yelled and charged at Leila again and tried to slash her face, but Leila grabbed her hand. Karen struggled to break free, but Leila wouldn’t let go, so she punched her in the face with her other fist. Leila fell back and hit her head on the tile of the fireplace. Karen came at her again, but Leila grabbed a log from the pile and hit her across the head. Karen fell back. The knife flew across the room. Leila went for Karen and hit her again and again, till she didn’t move, and then she dropped the log and began to cry. A few moments later, the police rushed in. Leila was sitting close to Karen’s body with the log near her hand. The police demanded that she put her hands up, and she did.

She was shaking and crying as the police came over and checked Karen’s pulse. She was still alive. Another officer came over to Leila to check her wounds. The paramedics showed up and took both of them to the hospital. Leila was trembling. She wished she would have killed Karen’s crazy ass.

After Leila got twelve stitches in her shoulder and seven stitches in her calf, two officers questioned her. When they got home, and Ray saw all the blood in their bedroom, he decided they would sleep in the guest room until they replaced the carpets and cleaned the traces of Leila’s injuries from their room.

Karen was arrested and was charged with attempted murder, trespassing, breaking and entering, intent to harm with a deadly weapon, and any other charge they could throw at her. She made a plea of insanity and was committed to a psychiatric facility for an indeterminate period. At the final sentencing, she sat there with a blank stare in her eyes as her mother sobbed through the entire ordeal.

She lost custody of her son to her mother, and when they left the courthouse, Karen’s mom approached Leila and Rayshon.

“Listen, Rayshon, I am deeply sorry for everything. The day I met you in the hospital, I wanted to warn you that Karen had issues after I found out you were married, but I believed that she had gotten help and that she was better. I am so sorry, and although I hate to say these words, my daughter needs to stay locked away for a long time for what she has done to you and your family,” she said. Rayshon and Leila accepted her apology and knew she was not to blame for Karen’s attempt on Leila’s life.

“Mrs. Morgan, it’s okay. Rayshon and I will be fine. We have each other, and we will be okay,” Leila said.

“Yes, Katherine, we’ll be fine. If ever you need help with Shon, please, you have my number. Don’t hesitate to ask. I know I can’t be in his life physically anymore, but I love him, and I know that none of this is his fault, so please know that we will be here for him,” Rayshon said squeezing Leila’s hand, and as bad as everything was, Leila didn’t disagree. She knew Shon was just as much a victim as she was, so she was proud of Rayshon for offering to be there for the baby.

Karen was taken to a holding cell until she was scheduled to be taken away. She sat there emotionless and still didn’t see that she was the unstable one in the entire scenario. She spent every day of her sentence planning how she could kill Leila if she ever got out.
