Jordan called and Jacob put him speaker phone, “Hey guys, Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas,” they all said in return.
“So, I’m going to head out and go back to Texas,” Jordan said. “Things are a bit tense, as you saw from last night. But I have gift for the baby before I get on a plane.”
“I don’t see a box under the tree,” Eden commented.
“It’s not in a box,” Jordan’s voice sounded amused. “Sera will be the new name of our AI voice assistant. She’ll be able to turn on lights, TVs, set room and water temperatures and handle the music systems, plus much more.”
“Well, that’s amazing!” Eden exclaimed. “Hopefully, she doesn’t go crazy and try to take over the world.”
“Man, that would be too cool!” Jordan cheered over the phone.
“No, no it wouldn’t be,” Jacob said. “Anyway, thank you buddy. I’m going to look forward to readying Sera’s programing when it’s all up.”
“I’ll be sending you the new coding by the beginning of the new year,” Jordan said. “Merry Christmas again guys, my flight is boarding... Later.”
“Your Uncle Jordan may have created an evil artificial intelligence just for you,” Sonja cooed at Sera.
Jacob looked at his phone again. “We have to table the rest of gift opening for a little bit and head outside.”
“What are you up to now, Jacob Sato?” Eden asked.
“Let’s go find out.” He beamed at her.
Outside, the sun felt warm but the air was light and definitely not the usual heat of Arizona. Christmas never really got cold but it definitely became comfortable.
Eden didn’t know what she expected for Jacob’s version of twelve drummers drumming. She certainly didn’t expect a whole parade, led by the 12 drummers and then a float with Santa, elves, fairies and dancing toys.
Neighbors came out, with kids and these families were in as much awe as Eden was.
Sonja had her phone out recording the parade.
Eden laughed in delight. “You got Sera a whole parade?”
“A small parade.” He held up two fingers with a small gap between.
“Floats, dancing bears...” Eden gaped at the parade passing by. “The drummers are dressed like toy soldiers.”
“They’ll go around the neighborhood twice then go back to Toyland,” Jacob said. “But till then...” He held up his hand and the whole parade stopped. “Shall we take our princess to be the bell of a parade?”
Eden placed her hand in his with a smile. “Lets.”
That was how Christmas morning started for Eden, Jacob and Sera. Along with his sisters, they ended up on a float going down the street in his neighborhood. Later this afternoon at grandma and grandpa’s, there would be more food and family. But for now, their daughter was wearing a small tiara and they were all still in their pajamas as they waved to neighbors.
With each gift from her true love, Eden knew that they were meant to be.
