Last Chance Diner Page 18

"I'm going to get Papa Lewis," Dylan proclaims. His little feet hit the floor, and he runs out of the room at top speed.

Laughing, I climb out of bed and head toward the kitchen, where I know Ty will have breakfast ready. Today is pancake day. Any day after Ranger gets the master bed is pancake day. It's Ty's way of reminding me tonight is his night, and it's just as sweet as the syrup I'm about to drown those bad boys in.

"Good morning, beautiful," Ty sets down a plate of pancakes in my spot. "Should I make the kids' plates?"

"Nah, let their other daddies deal with them, come eat with me," I smile as he leans over my back kissing my forehead. "We've got a lot to do today. Benji's mating is next week, which means no more Luna in waiting for me!"

"It will be good for you to travel without children. I'm glad we settled on that," Ty sits next to me and takes his first bite.

"Yes, and Lewis and I will get some much-needed alone time. It works perfectly. I'm glad the Coven of the Moon runs with us as a leadership team, being an Alpha is bullshit," I smirk.

"That's a bad word, mommy," December stands in the doorway with her hand on her hip.

I cover my mouth as Ranger scoops up the precocious three-year-old. She's plopped into her chair, and he moves to fix plates for them both. December, not one to wait, grabs my fork, and starts munching the bite I was aiming toward my mouth.

  'Betrayed by my own spawn!'

'I heard that, mommy. You should share.'

I sit slack-jawed, as Ty bursts into laughter. December munches happily, not a care in the world. "When are you planning on leaving?" Ranger asks as he hands me a new fork and sets a plate in front of the food thief.

"In the next day or so. I figure we can charter a private plane and make it a quick trip," I answer as I give my daughter a fake scowl. She titters and offers me a bite of her own pancake, which I accept greedily.

"I'm impressed with your cousin, Benji, he's really turned out to be a proficient leader. I hear the leader of the Little Rock pack died last month," Lewis enters with Dylan on his shoulders.

I nod. While death is not a thing to wish on a person, the Little Rock Pack is better off with their second in command. The two southern packs have been getting along great, with a treaty in the works. Meanwhile, we've managed to grow our coven-pack to a little under a hundred witches and wolves. I secretly hope we stay small. The redwoods are a fantastic place to run with our smaller pack. Millie's little sanctuary has been pure heaven for us.

"Where's Brandon?" I question. He's usually prompt for breakfast.

"Right here," Brandon steps through the back door with a bunch of roses in his hand.

"Is there a special occasion I'm missing?" I look at him with my brow raised.

Brandon opens his eyes wide in mock horror. "Babe… today is the anniversary of the first day you walked through our doors!"

Tears roll down my face. I stand up, knocking down the chair running into his arms. Before I know it, four sets of arms are around me. My heart is full to bursting. I love my life. The Last Chance Diner was my new beginning. The Goddess has been good to me.

  About the Author

Rowan Thalia is a poet and RH Paranormal novelist. She wrote her first poem at age sixteen after finding and losing her first love. Her love of poetry and short stories developed into a drive to write novels when she first participated in a novel writing club at the school where she teaches.

Though she will forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Washington state with her two children. Prior to settling down, Rowan’s zest for life and culture brought on many adventures. She has lived in four states in the United States and has also had the great joy of teaching abroad.

If she isn’t hard at work writing her next dangerously exquisite novel, you might find her reading, teaching, camping, or indulging in her secret vice- watching B-rated horror flicks.
