And when his tongue slid up her wet cleft, she moaned his name, making his cock throb against his jeans from sheer heated arousal.
No one made him feel like this. Ever.
He took his time at the start, lazily stroking the tip of his tongue along her clit, feeling her reactions to different motions. He made little circles, lapping up her wetness with his mouth and lips before flicking his tongue against her nub with quick motions that made her legs clench around him.
“Oh God, Xander. Don’t stop. I’m going to come. I’m going to…”
This time, when Janet’s release caught up to her, he kept her immobilized against the wall. Her hips clenched and quivered around him as she cried out in pleasure, and Xander used his not-at-all-drunk body to keep her steady so she could simply lose herself in release without worrying about falling.
As she came, he couldn’t resist giving her a few light kisses on her center, making her come a little harder.
“Stop that,” she gasped out as the last bits of orgasm jolted her.
“Do you really want me to stop?” His voice was muffled, his face surrounded by soft legs and body everywhere.
He was in fucking heaven.
She muttered a nearly silent, “No.”
“Sorry, I couldn’t hear that from down here. You’ll have to speak up,” he teased as he breathed over her wet skin. Her hips bucked slightly, and he licked his lips, tasting pure Janet on his mouth and nothing else as he considered how quickly he could make her come again if he tried. Give her two quick ones in rapid succession.
“No, don’t stop,” she said more forcefully, sitting up and making them wobble slightly against the wall.
Xander let go of her hands, and she grasped his hair, fingers running along his scalp and tightening in his hair to hold on as he licked her again.
Only this time, he went fast, soaking himself in her arousal as he flicked up her clit again and again. Her thighs clenched around his head and on his shoulders, but he couldn’t stop. Wouldn’t stop so long as he could wring one more iota of pleasure from his mate.
Damn, Xander finally knew why his brother had lost it so completely over his mate.
He was losing it over Janet more with each passing second.
She came again, and he held her tight as she rode the waves of pleasure deep within. But just as she finished, he went again, licking and now sucking her clit, the sensation of Janet’s pleasure branding the center of his soul with her name in big, bold letters.
“Xander, Xander.” Her voice was tense, tight, then screaming in orgasm.
This time, though, he pulled back a bit, simply holding Janet and giving her space to just feel without his constant want to keep pushing her further.
The last release was the longest, going on and on as she curled her entire body around him, her body glowing, their skin sticking together where they touched each other. And as much as he wanted to make her scream his name more as he buried himself deep within her, Xander was more than happy to have simply gone as far as they did tonight.
As Janet came down from her release, he lowered her to the floor, setting her gently on solid earth and withdrawing.
“How’s your foot?” he asked.
“Fine,” she said quickly, still breathless from release. But as she tried to stand, beautiful and naked and everything he could have possibly wanted, she wobbled slightly, pale skin flushed with arousal.
“Whoops, careful there,” he said, catching her in his arms. “Here, let me do the rest of the work.”
“That was… unexpected,” she said, curling into him as he carried her to the bedroom. “We didn’t even get to do something for—”
“Nah.” He interrupted, opening the door to her bedroom and taking her in to set her softly down on the bed. “One thing at a time. That was everything I wanted.” And he meant it.
She didn’t resist as he gathered her sheets and blanket and bundled her up. But as he headed for the living room where he planned to spend the night, her hand grasped his unexpectedly, and he looked over his shoulder to see green eyes watching him.
“Stay?” she asked, lips pursed, gaze expectant.
“Of course,” he replied, turning off the light and removing his jeans before settling into bed next to her.
And as he pulled her into him, his arm wrapped protectively around her, Xander listened for the sound of Janet’s breathing getting slower and slower until she was sound asleep. Outside, the city bustled and moved in muffled sounds, but he couldn’t care what the rest of the world was doing.
Because this dragon had everything in the world he needed right here.
Chapter 10
When Janet woke up the next morning, she wanted to go straight back to sleep.
Not just because of the splitting headache she had from her hangover, but because her memories of what she’d done with Xander, what Xander had done to her, were far too clear.
She groaned, pulling her covers over her head to block out the sun and let the darkness swallow her up.
“Good morning, Sleeping Beauty,” a deep, teasing voice said from the direction of her bathroom, and she looked up to see possibly the most panty-melting scene ever.
Xander fresh out of a shower.
She gaped, wondering if it was just his mission in life to torture her into making bad decisions, but still couldn’t resist her own body’s response to him.
His tanned skin glowed, and beneath his powerful shoulders and chest, rippling abs went all the way down, catching the sunlight before they disappeared, hidden by a towel that sat low on his hips.
Low enough that it could fall with just the smallest little tug…
He leaned against the doorway, a calm, smug look on his face that only served to make her madder.
She pushed herself up on the bed. “You… we shouldn’t have done that.”
His brows lowered, jaw going instantly hard. “Done what?” His arms were folded.
She fidgeted, keeping the sheet up around her, realizing with even more embarrassment that she was still naked.
God, she felt stupid.
She’d let alcohol and horniness take the lead, and now she’d ruined any chance they had at real friendship.
Because Jan had no desire to break her own heart reaching for more than that.
Deep down, her body would always remember that moment. But she couldn’t risk it again.
“It was a mistake.”
“Was it?” He walked forward, the towel swaying dangerously at his hips as he put a knee on the bed and crawled toward her. “So you won’t ever want to do it again?”
She hesitated, already growing hot at the sight of him. “I can’t say I won’t.” She shook her head. “But I… I’m not looking to be exclusive.”
She wanted to say it before he could. Before he thought she wanted more than he’d agreed to.
It was just one night. That was all he’d ever asked for.
To her surprise, he pulled back from her, expression going hard.
He turned his back on her to pull his clothes on, changing in a way that implied he was angry.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” he said. “So what, you just want to go on… seeing other people?”
She swallowed. What was the right answer here? They’d never talked about commitment before they did things. She didn’t want a man to date her just to get in her pants.
There didn’t need to be pretense between them.
He’d said so many possessive things last night… but for all she knew, he was caught up in the moment. Or thought that was what she wanted after reading her books.
But Janet didn’t actually expect life to be a fairy tale.
“I think we should just… take it slow. Keep it casual.”
He glanced at her over his shoulder, blue eyes narrowed. “Meaning?”
“Look, Xander. I’m not naive. You weren’t offering to be my boyfriend. You were just putting up with a horny drunk. I pushed y
ou into it. You probably didn’t even want to, and—”
He let out a snort. “If that’s what you think, then I shouldn’t have done anything, because you really were too drunk.”
“No, you’re right.” She was quiet for a moment, clutching the sheet around her. “I don’t know what you’re thinking. I don’t know how you feel.”
“Then ask me,” he said, facing her fiercely, arms folded over his chest, hair still dripping and damp. “Ask me how I feel about you, Janet.”
But she didn’t want to. She didn’t want him to lie, to make promises. And she didn’t want to hear the truth either, if he was just having fun.
And she didn’t see how two people who knew each other for such a short time could be anything but acquaintances.
Even if a part of her knew that she’d never connected with anyone the way she connected with Xander.
But she wasn’t ready to face that just yet. “I can’t.” She looked up at him apologetically.
His face went cold, and she felt like a door had just been shut on her.
“Xander, last night was—”
He waved a hand. “I’ve gotta go. Work meeting.”
She blinked. “But—”
“I guess we’ll talk later,” he said coolly, putting his hand on her doorknob.
“So to clarify, we’re not exclusive?”
He let out a deep breath. “Sure. If you want it that way so badly. Whatever you want.”
“But are we cool?”
He turned back to her, a pleasant but fake smile on his face while the blue flames in his eyes were ice. “Perfectly.”
Then he was gone, shutting the door behind him, leaving Janet to wonder if she’d just made a huge mistake.
* * *
Xander’s mind was still racing as he got off his motorcycle in front of Trevor and Chadwick’s house, but he forced his thoughts away so the double dragons wouldn’t be able to read them.
What he’d shared with Janet was for his mind alone.
Shit. Things had been amazing. He’d thought they’d finally made progress. Why had he thought everything would be fine when they woke up?
Probably because she’d come over and over, begging him not to stop, and then fallen asleep in his arms.
He shook his head, hating that he always seemed to move backward, no matter how far forward he went.
He knocked on the door, sighing inwardly at having to deal with difficult dragons when he already had enough to work out.
The door opened, and Chadwick looked out, dressed in a cashmere purple sweater that was as pretentious as his mansion.
With his short brown hair and violet eyes that matched his sweater, he was the complete opposite of his partner, Trevor, who was all golden skin and bronze hair.
Trevor was also a couple inches taller. Almost Xander’s size.
Not in dragon form, Xander thought smugly.
“Come in here,” Trevor said. “The oracle has an assignment for you.”
“That fast?” Xander said, rubbing the back of his head. “She didn’t know where I was for a hundred years, and now she’s putting me to work?”
Trever just shrugged at him, leading the way into a large office.
When Xander went to sit down, he saw a man seated on the other side of the room, in a chair facing him.
The man was big, unmistakably dragon, with intense blue eyes and black hair down to his shoulders.
He looked like a Viking warrior but in blue flannel and jeans.
There were also dark circles under his eyes. He was handsome in an intense kind of way, with a slightly hooked nose and strong jaw, along with surprisingly soulful eyes.
When Xander looked into them, he resonated with the loneliness there.
The kind of loneliness that stuck for a lifetime. The feeling of never knowing where you belong.
It hollowed out a person, leaving them desperate and empty, moving from club to club, searching for…
But then maybe Xander was projecting.
He sat in a chair, eyeing the other dragon somewhat suspiciously. “So what is this about?”
“This is Taylor,” Trevor said. “The oracle would like you two to hang out.”
Xander stood to shake the other dragon’s hand, and they eyed each other up and down. “I’m Xander. Nice to meet you.”
Taylor only gave him a nod, then sat back down.
“Taylor, can you give us some privacy?”
The big man gave them another nod, then disappeared out the office door. Chadwick closed it behind him, then came back to the desk.
Xander scratched the back of his head. “What is this about?”
“We found him by the docks,” Chadwick said. “A few weeks ago. We don’t know his story. He doesn’t talk much. He’s been staying with the oracle, but they can’t figure out much either.”
“Can’t you read his thoughts?”
“It doesn’t seem so,” Chadwick said. “He’s very guarded.”
“Is he a dragon?”
Trevor nodded. “One of us. We know that much at least.”
“What does this have to do with me?”
“You and your twin are the only other stray dragons we know about.”
Xander wrinkled his nose. “I don’t know about stray…”
“Unknown, I suppose,” Chadwick said. “Anyway, the oracle thought since you two were in a similar position, he might open up to you. You could take him around a bit. Get him to trust us more.”
Xander frowned, though he was already softening to the idea. Truth be told, he liked the oracle. She’d been kind to him in their first meeting, apologizing profusely for not knowing he was out there. For not finding him and his twin.
And ever since then, he’d felt part of the shifter world. Valued. Though he didn’t know his place quite yet, he trusted that the oracle wanted what was best for him.
She wasn’t the monster she’d been made out to be by Xander’s parents.
But he did understand being afraid of a world you were never a part of. So his heart did reach out to the other dragon.
“Sure, I’ll take him around,” Xander said. “But should we be doing anything specific?”
Chadwick looked at Trevor, who shook his head. “No. Just getting him to open up to you, I guess.”
Xander cocked his head. “How do you know he’s not a bad apple, though, if he never talks to you?”
“Well, if he was bad, wouldn’t you still be the safest around him? With that… thing inside you.”
Xander smirked. “You mean my giga-dragon.”
“That’s what you’re calling it?” Trevor asked, looking dismayed.
Xander nodded. “Yeah. ‘Cause it’s bigger than yours, if you know what I mean.” He raised an eyebrow, smirking, and Trevor cursed as he stomped around behind the desk to be by Chadwick.
“Whatever. Just try to get along with him. Take him out to one of those clubs you like.”
Xander lifted one shoulder and let it fall. “Fine.” He needed something to do anyway. Something to keep his mind off the fact that he’d just been rejected by—
Trevor smirked. “Things not going so well with the ladies?”
Xander scowled, clearing his mind, unwilling to give them any more information. He’d almost forgotten himself for a moment. “None of your beeswax.” He stood. “So I’ll make friends with that guy. Is that all?”
Chadwick’s eyes were calm as he watched him. “Yes. Get his contact info so the two of you can meet up.”
Xander nodded, waving to the two of them as he left.
He couldn’t get out of that pretentious mansion fast enough.
As he walked into the living room, he saw Taylor sitting on the couch, legs crossed as he flipped through the TV channels using the remote.
To Xander’s surprise, he stopped on a show about gardening and leaned in, looking interested.
Xander snorted. “You like flowers?”
The dragon looked up at him, nodding.
/>
“Nice,” Xander said, coming over to sit on the other couch that was perpendicular to him. He sprawled on it, putting one leg out over the cushions. “So what do you like to do for fun?”
Taylor just stared at him, then back at the TV.
Xander scratched his head. “I should get your number. We can hit up a club tonight. Have some fun.”
Taylor, without looking away from the TV screen, pulled a phone out of his pocket and tossed it to Xander.
“Right,” Xander said uncertainly, looking down to see it was unlocked. “I guess I’ll just send you mine, then, after I put your number in.”
Taylor nodded.
Xander didn’t really know what to make of the silent dragon. He wasn’t sure how well they were going to get along if Taylor didn’t start using his words soon.
But he remembered what it was like to be lost and alone. Found under a dock? That was rotten.
What had he been doing down there? Living there?
At least Xander had always had Tristan.
Still, this might be a good distraction while Janet was driving Xander crazy with mixed messages.
“All right,” he said, standing hesitantly, looking over at the other dragon, who was still facing the screen.
Taylor lifted a hand to wave, not even looking Xander’s way.
As he walked out the front entryway, he glanced back at Taylor, studying him.
He didn’t feel like the other dragon was unintelligent or crazy or anything. He just wasn’t… quite there.
If Xander had only one word for it, he might say broken.
But that was a terrible thing to think, and Xander pushed the thought away.
“Anyway, looking forward to hanging,” he said. “Be ready for a great time.”
The dragon nodded.
“When I text you the club, are you good to meet me there? I mean, I could pick you up, but I have a motorcycle. Two guys on a motorcycle isn’t impossible, but it’s definitely a look and—”
“I’ll get there,” the dragon said gruffly, as if his voice wasn’t used to speaking.
He still didn’t look Xander’s way.
“Right, then,” Xander said awkwardly. “I’ll see you later.”
He took a deep breath as he headed back into the sunlight, determined to make the best of all the obstacles in his path.
