I rub my hand up and down her arm, hoping to soothe her, then I kiss the back of her head. “Use me a chroí, I’ll be your journal. Tell me what happened.”

Her breath shudders. “You came back late after our fight today. You broke up with me.”

“I’m an arse in your dreams sweetheart. Why would I ever let someone as beautiful and perfect as you go?”

She shrugs. “You’re an ass in the real world too.”

“I deserve that. But I’d never be stupid enough to let you go.”

  She laughs.

“Okay, get the rest of it out.”

“You said you didn’t want me anymore, so I left. I got a taxi, and they drove me to the airport. It was raining really bad. There was a car crash. But that’s not the worst part, the part that seemed so real. I was pregnant. When I woke up in the hospital, I had lost the baby. She died, our baby girl died.” She rolls over and sobs into my chest.

“Hey, hey. Shh, it’s okay. That didn’t really happen a chroí.”

“It was so real Gareth. It felt so real. What if there’s a baby in here?” She places her palm against her tummy and looks down.

“Sweetheart, I’ve come inside you so many times, I’d be surprised if you weren’t pregnant by now.”

  “Do you want kids?”

“With you? Of course, I do. I want a hundred babies with you.”

She giggles through her tears, and I wipe them away with the pads of my thumbs. “Let’s make an appointment when we wake up in the morning and find out. Does that sound okay?”

She smiles brighter than I’ve ever seen and nods her head. “Yes.”

I kiss her on the lips but don’t deepen it, now isn’t the time. “Are you hungry? I could make us something.” I offer.

“Gareth, we need to talk about what happened today. It can’t happen again.”

I sit up against the headboard and Caitlin joins me. For the next hour, I explain everything that happened today.

“So you were on the phone with the sister when I walked in today? She had no idea?”

  “Not a clue.”

“Did she agree to press charges against her brother?”

“In the end, she did because it’s what would be best for the company. She loves her brother, but what he did was wrong. He destroyed their company.”

“Wow. I can’t even Imagine having to make that kind of choice.”

“I’m sorry about today Caitlin. I should have never talked to you that way or took my frustration out on you.”

“Did Royce give you my message?” She asks with a mischievous grin pulling at the side of her mouth.

  “He did.” I nod.

“Tell me you didn’t fire him.”

“Of course, I didn’t. I realized I fucked up the minute you walked out. I was too stubborn to go after you and apologize though. It didn’t help that you were wearing that fucking dress showing every passing man what is only mine to see.”

“It wasn’t that bad.” She says, throwing her head back in laughter.

She nods to the corner, and I get up and pick it up. When I try putting it right side in, I see it’s torn in places. “Get in a fight with the dress?” I look over at Caitlin who is sitting on the edge of the bed.

She shrugs. “I decided the dress was stupid and I didn’t want it anymore.”

Shame fills me, and I drop to my knees in front of her, then grab her hands in mine. “Caitlin, I’m sorry about today. Sorry about everything I said and how I made you feel. I promised to keep you safe the day I met you, and I didn’t do that today. Please give me another chance. I love you.”

“Say it again.” She says sniffling.

Holding her face in the palms of my hands, I lean up and look her in her beautiful eyes. “I love you a chroí. I’ll love you forever.” I take her mouth in a long, deep kiss, showing her how much I love her with this kiss.

“I love you too Gareth. I love you so much.”

  Chapter 12

  Caitlin

“Wake up,” Gareth whispers huskily into my ear, then sucks my earlobe into his mouth, knowing that it drives me crazy when he does it. “Come on, wake up a chroí.” He whispers against my neck, placing open mouthed kisses down my neck to the valley between my breasts. I moan, loudly when he pulls one of my nipples into his mouth and arch up to meet him. He continues kissing me down my tummy until he gets to my pussy that’s dripping wet thanks to what he’s been doing with that mouth of his.

“I want you to be mine.” He says looking up at me and then kissing my mound.

  “I am yours.”

Using his thumbs, he spreads my pussy lips, running his tongue up my slit and around my clit. Watching him savor my taste is one of the most erotic things I’ve experienced with him.

“No. I want you to be mine in a way that no one can take you away from me.” Flattening his tongue, he licks from the bottom of my slit to the top, and back down again. “So that everyone knows you belong to me.”

He pushes two fingers in and out of my aching pussy so slowly that it’s driving me mad. Then he pulls his fingers out of me and crawls up beside me. More than frustrated with his teasing, I’m about to complain when he takes my left hand and kisses my ring finger then looks me in the eyes. Oh god, this is it.

“Caitlin Shepherd, will you take my last name? Will you give me a hundred babies? Will you spend the rest of your life with me? Will you marry me?”

“Yes!” Putting my hand behind his neck, I pull him down to me for a kiss. I feel him push a ring onto my finger and I pull away to look at the beautiful diamond engagement ring. “Always full of surprises aren’t you Mr. Whelan?” I ask watching the platinum band sparkle with all the diamonds that cover it.

  “Just for you my bride.”

“It’s so pretty Gareth. Thank you. I love you.”

“Love you too pretty girl. Now let’s work on making those babies you promised me.”

He spends the rest of the morning making sweet love to me and driving me wild in the best possible way.

Later in the week we finally get into an OBGYN and find out that I am in fact pregnant with our first baby. It was the best news to end a perfect week.

  Epilogue

  Fifteen years later

  Gareth

Caitlin is still the only woman who owns my heart. She has blessed me with a passel of boys over the years. We hoped one day we would get a girl, but it never happened. Our son Greggory is our first born, followed by Nial, Finnegan, Rupert, and baby Colin. We’re more than happy with the family we have. We just spoil our nieces and get our girl fix in with them.

My company is still going strong. Royce still works for me, but in a different capacity these days. He’s VP of the company and has made very sound decisions over the years that has garnered us a lot of success.

Caitlin decided the best place for her was home with our boys. She’s busy running them around to rugby and soccer practice while taking care of the little ones who are still too young for school and sports. She also likes to help Finola and Cormac out at The Lass and Lion every once and a while.

All in all our life is better than I could have planned out. Caitlin is truly, mo fhíorghra. I don’t know what my life would have turned out like without her in it, thank God I don’t have to find out.

I’m sitting at the dining room table watching Rupert and Colin eat their breakfast of bananas and Cheerios when Caitlin walks out of our bedroom with a scowl on her face.

  “What’s wrong a chroí?”

She tosses a pregnancy test at me and it hits me in the face, making her burst into a giggle. “I’m sorry babe. Look at that though,” she says pointing at the test that’s sitting in my plate, now covered in syrup.

I turn it over and the test reads positive. I push my chair back and pat my knee, “Come here a chroí. This is a blessing.”

She sits on my lap and wraps her arm around my shoulder, giving me a kiss on the lips. “It’s a blessing. I’m just not looking
forward to the getting sick part.”

“You never know, this time could be different.”

She rolls her eyes at me and I kiss the side of her head. She jumps up and I pat her arse as she walks away from me.

Turns out, the pregnancy was different, she didn’t even get sick. Our twin girls Alannah and Aislinn were born eight and a half months later. Now we’re a family of seven children and busy as can be.
