“There something I must tell all of you. Something very important.” Their eyes immediately stared over at me.
“What is it, Eric?”
Angelo stepped away from the phone, and the expression on his face turned into one of concern. Even the Elders took an interest in what I had to say.
They came closer, huddled in the center of the room where the others stood surrounding me and Sophia’s body by the sofa.
“I heard them arguing just before Nathan’s death. I heard them,” I said quickly. their attention was completely on me.
“Heard who argue?” Angelo interrupted.
“I should have seen it coming,” I said nervously, ignoring Angelo’s question.
“What are you talking about, Eric?” Damon asked, wrinkling a brow, and then gazing at the others, who were just as confused as he.
“Yeah, tell us. We’d sure like to know,” Santiago griped.
“Don’t you ever shut up?” Angelo snapped back. “Let him talk!”
“Guys! Come on, have a little respect. Nathan is dead. For Sophia’s sake, please!” Damon insisted angrily. He hugged his companion closely, and then stepped over to my side.
I moved to the window silently. I couldn’t stop thinking about what I’d heard, and what had taken place the minute after. And what about the figure in the passage? Could he be responsible for Nathan’s death?
I wasn’t even sure.
“What is it, Eric? Is it about Nathan?”
“Yes…” I whispered softly, spellbound by the bitterest of circumstances.
