Immortal Night Page 8

by Emily Goodwin

“I just wanted her to loosen up.”

Callie’s heart is pounding and her blood pressure is up. These fucker should know better by now not to mess with her. One of the roommates tries to run out of the apartment and into the hall.

  Idiot.

I stop him before he can even get to the door.

“She was all for it at first,” the asshole known as Mike explains, as if it makes his despicable behavior acceptable. What a fucking loser. Any guy who thinks it’s okay to drug or force himself on a woman is a waste of human life. “She wanted to go to my car with me. And then she just kind of passed out. I didn’t touch her after.”

“I don’t believe you.” Callie inches closer. “Tell me the truth before I make you.”

“Fine!” he cries, and tries to break out of Callie’s hold. “I was going to…to…”

  “Rape her?”

“Just get a little…a little action. But then a car pulled around back. I didn’t touch her. We left.”

“No shit, you left. You left her in an alley.” Callie brings her fingers closer to her palm and Mike falls to the ground, screaming in pain. “And here’s what’s going to happen.” Callie releases her hold and storms over, grabbing Mike’s wrist. She finds the pulse point and looks into his eyes, gaining control.

“You’re going to call the police and tell them what you did. Do not spare a single detail. Tell them how your friends encouraged you to get a little action from an unconscious girl in an alley. Didn’t make any attempt to stop you. Helped you buy the drugs in the first place. Go ahead and turn in your stash of weed too.”

Fuck, I might already be in love with this woman.

  Mike whimpers and nods.

“And most importantly, you have no memory of me coming here tonight.” Callie looks at me again. “Wipe their memories.”

“With pleasure,” I say with a smile, fangs flashing.

“Let this be a lesson for you boys,” Callie croons, and steps over Mike, who’s still on the ground. “In how to be a fucking decent human being. Treat everyone with respect. Or else I’ll be back and I might not be in as cheerful of a mood as I’m in right now.”

I hold the fuckers spellbound and remove the memory of us coming into the apartment tonight, which is a shame, really. They should know how fucking badass Callie is.

  The whole world should know.

Callie lets out a deep sigh when we step out of the apartment complex and into the night. Her heart rate settles down as we walk to the Range Rover, and I can’t stop staring at her the whole time.

She’s the most incredible person I’ve ever met, and if I make it another sixteen hundred years, I doubt I’ll find another woman as amazing as she is.

  Full of life.

  Not afraid of her powers.

And not taking any shit from anyone.

She taught those assholes a lesson, turned them over to the cops in a just and fair way but not before getting her own revenge.

I would hate to get on her bad side.

Unable to resist any longer, I grab Callie the second we get to the SUV and pick her up, pressing her against the door. My lips go to hers, kissing her hard and desperate. She hooks her arms over my shoulders and her legs fasten around my waist, pulling me tightly against her.

“Come back,” she pants. “To my.” I kiss her again. “My place. We still have like…like…” I put my mouth on her neck and the heat between her legs intensifies. “A while until sunrise.”

Sunrise isn’t that far off, and I’m not rushing anything with Callie. Because holding her like this, feeling her desire for me, I know I was wrong.

Wrong about not believing in love.

Wrong about thinking soulmates don’t exist.

Because there is nobody else on this whole fucking planet that is more right for me than this woman right here.

I break away and look into her gorgeous eyes. “When I do make love to you, Callie, and trust me, I will, I’m going to take my time.” I bring my mouth to her neck again, fangs grazing her tender flesh. “I’ll make it well worth your wait.”

I gently set her down. “You are unlike anyone I’ve ever met before.”

“You’ve met a lot of people.”

“Yes, I have. But you…you are exquisite.”

“No one has ever described me like that before.”

“Then they are fools,” he tell her, cupping her face in my hands. She brings her hands up, resting them over mine. We lock eyes, and I feel it again, but this time it’s unmistakable.

Callie is bringing me back to life, and I will do anything to prove my love to her.

In that moment we both know—we both feel it—we’re meant to be. She’s a witch. I’m a vampire. She should hunt me. I should kill her.

But for some reason, we’re destined to fall in love.
