Eventually, I pull away and push her towards the stage with a little pat on the ass. I’m sure the gossiping talking heads will have field day with that later. I watch her walk to the stage and take the Oscar from the smug actor. She holds it high, grinning from ear to ear at the applause with tears in her eyes.
“This is…” she catches her breath in the microphone. “Thank you,” she whispers into it. “This is for you.” She looks right at me, and I grin right back. “This is for my husband.”
The cameras flash, but they’re temporary. This chaos is temporary. But she and I? Well, that’s forever.
When she walks off the stage, I jump out of my chair and rush for the side door of the theater. A security guard goes to stop me when I go for the door to backstage. But one of Heather’s management team spots me and waves me through.
Heather comes rushing into me in a backstage hallway and jumps into me. My arms hold her tight, and her lips press hotly to mine.
“I love you,” she whispers heatedly.
“I love you too,” I growl.
“Can we get you out of that suit now?”
I laugh as I scoop her up into my arms. “Absolutely.”
Like I said, I don’t give much of a rat’s ass about the movie business. But this is one Hollywood ending I’d take every time.
