Ultimate Mage Page 29

by Simon Archer

“Thank you for coming to our world and agreeing to help us,” Marinka said. “We are forever in your debt.” I turned to face her, still holding one of Freyja’s hands.

“Thank you,” I said. Then gesturing at the surrounding scene, “Your world is amazing. I never want to leave.”

“And you will never need to do so,” Nadeine said, beaming at me.

  “Awesome,” I said.

“Oh, Leo, look,” Marinka said, pointing at me. “Your robes.” I followed her hand and looked down at my robes. Sure enough, they had changed again. The pattern that had appeared on them when I had reached master status was now outlined in gold, just like the ones in the portraits I had seen of the most powerful magi.

“Your powers have advanced once more,” Nadeine said, shaking her head in disbelief. “You are now an ultimate mage. After only a few short weeks. I would have never believed it.”

“You are an ultimate mage,” Bernsten roared, clapping me on the back again, harder this time. Then, turning around in a circle as if to announce it to all of Eviorah, “My friend is an ultimate mage!” I grinned, basking in the praise and my new status.

“This is awesome,” I said, shaking my head. “I never would have believed it either.”

“Come,” Marinka said, coming up behind Bernsten and me and wrapping an arm around each of us. “Let us return home.”

  The Mountain Elf Stronghold

I watched from atop the mountain nearest to the edge of the forest as the brown hue of the trees beneath me washed away, replaced by a vibrant green. I clenched and unclenched my fists and closed my eyes, taking a series of measured, deep breaths. After I had counted to ten, I reopened my eyes and stretched out my fingers, releasing the tension.

I lifted a hand to brush a long strand of white hair out of my eyes and turned to reexamine the orb in front of me. I ran my long, thin fingers over it as the effects of my latest spell replayed before me, my insolent servant’s sunken, scarred face appeared amidst the light gray swirls, choking and ultimately devoid of life.

“Well,” I said, setting down the orb on the ground and pacing in a circle, talking to myself as I often did since all those I had ever known and cared for were destroyed by the insufferable kingdom elves and their magi. “He proved to be even more incompetent than I had expected. But it is no matter. I expected him to fail, though admittedly not so soon. I will prevail over my enemies. I will get my revenge.” Then, turning to face the forest below me once more, “This new mage and his friends are but a minor setback. The bulk of my plan remains undisturbed.” I felt a smile tug at my lips. “They are not prepared.”

  A Note from the Author

Hey, if you got here, I just want you to know that you’re awesome! I wrote this book just for someone like you, and if you want another one, it is super important that you leave a review.

The more reviews this book gets, the more likely it is there will be a sequel to it. After all, I’m only human, and you have no idea how far a simple “your book was great!” goes to brighten my day.

Also, if you want to know when the sequel comes out, you absolutely must join my Facebook group and follow me on Amazon. Doing one won’t be enough because it relies on either Facebook or Amazon telling you the book is out, and they might not do it.

You might miss out on all my books forever, if you only do one!
