“I couldn’t let you face that monster’s blade alone.”
Silas held his beloved and soaked in the love. He was sorry that he worried him but removing Roya from existence was a necessity. Wolfe pulled back and stared at him again as if making sure he was there and not a dream. Silas was enjoying every second of Wolfe’s unabashed desire and possessiveness. “Promise me you’ll never do anything like that again.’
"I can't make such a promise. You mean too much to me, and I will always love and defend you, always." Silas told him as he pulled him close into his arms and drank in the sweet scent of flowers in the moonlight.
"Well, try to avoid it if possible." Wolfe implored.
“If possible.” Silas relented with a broad smile.
“Good work, Silas.” Ismael patted his son’s shoulder.
"You made us proud." Master DuCane told him. "The Bellum Chamber always brings forth truth and justice. The old ways are the best." He to patted Silas's shoulder as he and Ismael turned and walked together to the door. He turned back just before they exited and locked his gaze on Silas. "Well done." He said, and Silas felt the praise in every cell of his being. Life was now perfect.
EPILOGUE
Roya's body was rejected by his people, so it was incinerated and the ashes thrown to the winds, which was the way for criminals without friends or family. Westly Brown was held temporarily for questioning in regard to the knife that Roya brought into the Chamber. It was determined that he had no knowledge of the breech of protocol so was ultimately released.
Silas and Wolfe settled into their life together at The Coven. Wolfe was accepted as a student of Chase Lee one of their martial arts masters and was showing great promise as a potential palace guard. Silas still had his reservations about his beloved possibly being in harm's way, but he was coming around.
“How is Simon Wielding? Has he recovered from his ordeal?” Wolfe asked one evening as he and Silas sat together in the garden at midnight. It was their special time with the heady scents and quiet sounds it was a beautiful place to relax and unwind.
"He's living with his brother at the Hadden Coven in Pittsburgh, but from what I hear he hasn't made much progress in recovery," Silas told him sadly.
“I didn’t know Simon was a vampire. I thought he was human.” Wolfe commented.
"He is human, his brother is half-vampire and half-human. They had the same mother." Silas clarified.
“I’m glad he has someone. Everyone needs to have someone in their corner. It makes life so much better.” He reached up and pulled Silas down for a kiss. “Thanks for being in my corner, sweetheart.”
“Always, my love, always.”
