But then he reaches over and places his hand on my leg just above my knee. When I shift to pull away from him, he slides it higher, giving me a light squeeze he probably thinks is comforting.
“Ava, will you speak with me in the hallway?” His voice is low, softer than someone like Killian could muster. My stomach turns. Here I was feeling sorry for him, because I thought he was going to get himself hurt trying to make sure I’m okay. He just sees what he thinks is a vulnerable girl who will cling to him if he steps in to protect her.
Garbage. He’s absolute fucking garbage.
I shove his hand off my leg, but I can’t get up because he’s blocking the opening of my desk. Heat rises in my chest when he scoots forward, nudging his knee between both of mine.
“I get that you’re new. I get that you’re a nice guy who’s just trying to help the fragile girl who’s getting yanked around by the school bully.” I level my eyes with him and stare him down when he frowns at my words. “It’s all a façade. I’m not fragile, you’re not that nice, and Killian isn’t a harmless high school bully. He will kill for me.” I’m surprised at the way my body tingles at my words. “Do you really want to play this game?”
“I don’t think I do.” He clears his throat and straightens his tie before sliding his chair back. Quietly, he moves back to his desk and doesn’t so much as glance in my direction. For the first time since I ran away, I don’t bother even doing my classwork. I’m too wound up, and I doubt Peterson would be reckless enough to call me out on it.
I roll my eyes when I hear the gossip club behind me whispering, and I’m ready to turn around and knock their teeth out, but I don’t get the chance because he bursts through the door.
“We need to leave. Shit’s going down.” He’s pulling me up out of the chair before I can form any words.
“Wait, I need my stuff,” I protest.
“Now,” he demands as I scramble to pick up my stuff.
“Are you going to tell him what happened?” Faith’s version of a whisper might as well have come paired with a foghorn.
I loathe that bitch.
“Tell me what?” Killian snaps, his hand clamping down on my shoulder just as I gather all of my stuff.
“Nothing. You were in a hurry?” I change the subject, but he’s not in the mood for any mind games.
He glares at Faith. “What happened?” He can somehow make a simple question sound like an interrogation.
“Mr. Peterson was flirting with her and touched her leg.” Faith blurts the words out and I want to smack the shitty smirk off of her face, but I’ve got bigger fish to fry because Killian has been itching to beat the fuck out of Peterson since he laid eyes on him.
“Is that true, motherfucker?” Killian asks Peterson, but doesn’t wait for an answer. He’s got him by the shirt collar and slams the back of his head against the whiteboard.
“I was just trying to…” Peterson is cut off by Killian ripping him forward and slamming his face on the desk. The cracking of the bones in his face is stomach curdling as Killian does it a second time.
“Killian, stop!” I yell at him, not for Peterson’s sake, but because I remember what he said when he walked in to get me. I grab his arm, digging my nails into the hard flesh. Something he’ll probably punish me for later. He freezes, but doesn’t flinch. “You said shit’s going down, what’s happening?”
He drops Peterson’s face back on the desk and I hear him grunt in pain.
Killian doesn’t answer me. Instead, he pulls me out of the room, without so much as a glance behind us as we leave.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” He finally asks when we’re halfway down the hallway, headed to the parking lot.
“I didn’t have a chance, you were rushing me to leave with you,” I hiss at him, grabbing his wrist this time, hoping that it will slow his pace and my much shorter legs can catch a break. “I told him you’d kill for me. That was enough to get him to stop touching me.”
He shakes my hand away and circles my wrist with his fingers again. I realize I shouldn’t have phrased it that way because the thought of someone touching me is enough to make Killian snap.
I’m his trigger. The one thing that really gets under his skin. That used to bother me, but now it makes me feel powerful.
“Do you believe that? That I would kill for you?” I’m having a hard time keeping up with his ground-eating strides, but I’m doing my best and he’s not yanking me around like he usually does. I’m not sure where we’re going, but he seems focused on getting us there quickly.
“You killed that guy in the basement because of me and he barely…” I’m cut off when we get to the exit doors. Killian pulls me up against him and tilts my chin up to look at him.
“I wanted to hear you say it.” He says softly, and then his tone changes. “When we get out here, don’t pull any bullshit and do what I tell you.”
I only have time to nod because he swings the doors open and I immediately see the crowd surrounding Kai and Chad. They’re staring each other down like they’re ready to kill each other.

Ava
It’s almost the end of the day at school, and Kai and I walk hand in hand in the hallway like some kind of fucking “it” couple. He glares at everyone who even glances in my direction and I roll my eyes. He’s such a pig.
“Oooh, “ I say, “whatcha gonna do? Stare at them ‘til they fall over dead?”
He glowers down at me. “Watch it, love,” he says. “I’m the one in charge of your orgasms.”
“No you’re not. I am,” I say cheekily. “I can give myself one. Remember, you watched one time.”
He chuckles darkly. “Oh, I’ll never forget, but I think you’re forgetting who ordered you to do that. I could order it again right here, right now, if I really wanted.”
I laugh airily as if I don’t have a care in the world, and pat his shoulder. “Oh, Kai. I think I know you better than that by now.”
He raises a brow, silently asking me to continue.
“I know damn well you’re not going to ask me to get naked and touch myself in front of all these people. Especially with all the male attention, we both know I’d get.” I smile.
He growls before grabbing my arm and yanking me into an empty classroom. He shuts the door and throws me on top of the teacher’s desk.
I gasp. “Kai.”
His hands wrap around my throat as I lay back against the desk. With his other hand, he roughly jerks my leggings down. “Time to teach my little love a lesson,” Kai says before his head dips between my thighs.
I arch my back, head falling with a thud against the desk. “Fuck.”
Kai’s skillful tongue glides along my pussy lips as if that’s where they’ve always belonged.
My hips buck against his face, the desk under me creaking as my body slaps against it. “Kai, the bell’s gonna ring at any moment,” I say breathily.
“You better come soon, then, love.”
His tongue swirls around my clit in slow leisurely circles, like I’m a decadent dessert he’s got all the time in the world to eat and enjoy. He places his palms on both of my thighs, spreading my legs wider. I moan, then bite my lips hard, trying to be quiet.
Then he stops and I hear the zipper on his pants come down, and I look up at him just as he plunges inside me.
I cry out and then bring my fist to my mouth to keep quiet.
“I’ve wanted to do this since the first day you walked into this fucking school,” he grunts with each thrust.
“Kai, I’m too nervous, I don’t know if I can come. Class is going to start soon. It’s too much pressure.”
He only gives a dark chuckle, the deepness of it vibrating into my own body. I moan again as he applies more pressure, circling my clit with his finger.
I bite my fist harder to stop myself from crying out, but I don’t know if it’s helping since the desk is scraping against the floor with Kai’s brutal thrusts.
I think I may
have lied to Kai. Because it’s not going to be so hard to come, after all.
But then the bell rings and I still haven’t finished. “Fuck, Kai, you’ve gotta stop we’re gonna get caught.”
“Come for me, love,” he says.
And as if my body is completely under his control, I do. I scream out in my moment of bliss, not caring if anyone hears.
My pussy grinds against him, clenching his cock in a death grip, and it’s as if I see stars behind my eyes. This man, this evil, evil man is making me become addicted to him.
When I’m finished and nothing can be heard except our heavy breathing, Kai jerks me upright and fixes my clothes just as the teacher and students start entering.
Everyone looks unbothered as if they have no clue what just happened, yet I feel like they know everything that just happened. When the teacher takes her seat behind the desk, I can’t help but let out a little giggle.
Kai throws me a sideways glance, and I see the humor dancing in his eyes as well.
‘You’re naughty,’ he mouths.
‘You started it,” I mouth back.
Then he grabs my hand. “Come on. We’re leaving,” he says.
“What?!” I whisper.
“Um, Mr. Pierce and Ms. Moore, where do you think you’re going during my class?”
Kai gives her a look I don’t see, but it must be terrifying because she suddenly looks nervous and turns away, ignoring us.
The rest of the school day was awkward as fuck, thanks to our earlier shenanigans. As we step outside, I think I’m about to finally find some relief and fresh air, but I’m sorely mistaken.
Chad fucking stands out in the school parking lot as we’re leaving today. The clouds are dark behind him, making the entire situation seem darker and more ominous.
“Why the fuck are you here, Anderson? You know I give no fucks I’m not afraid to commit murder on school grounds,” Kai warns.
Chad stalks forward, getting directly in Kai’s face. “You weren’t that hard to get rid of last time, Pierce.”
Kai smiles a cold, vicious smile. One filled with nightmares. One a king gives to a prisoner he’s about to have executed. “You snuck up on me in the night with five of your pricks because you’re scared to face me yourself. But here we are,” Kai says, spreading his arms wide. “Get rid of me now, Anderson. Come on, let’s see what the fuck you’ve got,” Kai says, low and dangerous.
Chad bares his teeth, Kai’s words struck a nerve. “Big words for someone whose ass I kicked once.”
Kai laughs and the sound sends shivers down my spine. “Let’s be real, Chad,” Kai spits his name out like it's a bad taste. “You ambushed me. If you were as big and bad as you say, you would’ve killed me, but you know you could never. You’ll never be good enough or strong enough,” Kai says, enunciating every word, giving Chad a little push at the end—an added little kick to his words.
“What does Des think about me sending her new little fuck toy to juvie like the little bitch he is?” Chad asks.
I tense. Chad sent Kai to juvie? What?
Now Chad stares me up and down meaningfully, but then Kai steps in front of me. “You never had her, bitch. And you never will,” Kai says.
Chad laughs maniacally. “I’ve had her sweet little cunt too, Pierce. Can’t trust her, she’s nothing but a hoe.”
As soon as the words leave Chad’s mouth, Kai pummels him to the concrete. I stand rooted to the spot in fear as I watch Kai’s fist fly at Chad’s face so fast it’s like he’s not even human, but a machine instead.
Sirens echo in the background, and I glance up and notice there are some more people starting to gather now. Kai’s gotta stop. He’s gonna kill him right here in the school parking lot.
But then he’s in front of me, leading me to sit in the car. It isn’t until he gets in the driver’s seat that I notice the bloody knife he puts under his shirt.
“Did you stab him?” I ask.
He doesn’t answer and wastes no time starting the car and peeling out of the parking lot. As the tires squeal, I turn around and see Chad lying on the ground with one of his friends kneeling at his side.
“Where are we going?” I ask.
“Away from here,” Kai says. I look over at him and notice his eyes intent on the rearview mirror. I look behind us and notice several sports cars following us and gaining speed rapidly.
“Kai?” I ask hesitantly, my voice shaky.
A muscle tics in his jaw, but he is otherwise completely controlled. The side of his mouth lifts in an easy smirk.
“Ever been in a car chase, love?” he asks.
“Yeah, it’s just a typical Tuesday for me.”
His eyes whip to mine and I sigh, throwing my arms out. “Fuck no, I haven’t been in a car chase, you idiot!”
An evil laugh escapes his cruel plump lips. “Hang tight then, love.”
And then the engine revs, and my head slams back into the seat with the force of speed. Tires squeal behind us, and in my peripheral I see Kai push harder on the gas pedal.
I check the rearview mirror and see the other cars gaining on us quickly, two red sports cars.
Then I see Killian’s sports car driving in front of us.
“We’re going to switch cars,” Kai says.
Our car is jolted as someone sideswipes us, and Kai’s hand covers my chest as if to protect me. I glance up at him in surprise, but his eyes are on the road, calculating.
I shake my head. “We can’t fucking switch cars. Are you insane?”
“Brakes are out. We can either die or switch. You choose,” he says calmly as if we’re talking over tea and crumpets.
I lean my head back against the seat with a soft thud, focusing on my breathing. When I’ve collected myself enough, I turn to him in the driver’s seat. “What do we need to do?”
He hands me his phone. “Call Killian.”

Desiree
“What is he doing?” I ask Killian, because even though I’m not new to this whole high speed chase with the Pierce brothers situation, I’ve never seen Kai drive so recklessly.
“Something’s wrong,” Killian grunts, twisting his back to get a better look at Kai’s car. “Shift for me,” he tells me, gesturing toward the gearshift. I move it into a higher gear, just like old times. Killian’s phone starts buzzing and he tosses it to me. It’s Kai’s phone, but when I put it on speaker I realize that it’s Desiree yelling over the loud roar of the engine.
“Brakes are out, Kai wants you guys to pull up next to us. There’s no other way.” I can hear the strained panic in her voice.
“Okay, okay. Hang on, and we’ll figure it out.” I say, but I don’t even sound convincing to myself. We must be going 100 miles an hour, and we’ll have to get both of them out of the car before it crashes.
“I can’t control this thing much longer, brother!” Kai yells and Killian maneuvers the car closer to Kai’s.
“I’ve got it, just hold on!” Killian snaps, and then punches the buttons to wind down both of our windows.
“What’s the plan?” I ask, unsure how there can even be a plan.
“I need you to drive, I’m going to get out on the roof and help them into our car.” I feel my chest tighten. I’ve driven for the boys before, but that feels like a lifetime ago.
“What if I …”
“You won’t. Just do it. You can do it,” he says, already reaching his arm out the window to pull himself out. “Take the wheel, Ava. I need you to do this! When I hit the roof, get as close to Kai’s car as you can.” His eyes stare into mine
I do as he asks, blocking everything out except the task in front of me. I’ve got all of our lives in my hands right now, and the weight of that responsibility feels like it might break my spine.
“Don’t slow down and don’t….” he’s muffled, but I finish the sentence.
And don’t hit the brakes.
“I’m not an idiot! Just get them!” I yell because he knows better. A
nd even though he thinks I’m a giant liar and the worst thing that’s ever happened to him, he must trust me in some way. He wouldn’t put his life, and especially his brother’s, in my hands if he didn’t. I hear him tap his hand on the roof, and I’m on autopilot. I keep my foot on the gas and ease over toward Kai’s car as gently as I can at the speed we’re reaching and say a silent prayer to whoever might be listening. I keep my eyes straight ahead and I tell myself that it’s because I’m calm and in control, but really I’m afraid Desiree isn’t going to make it into the car. One wrong move and she could be dragged under the car and Kai could crash.
I breathe in through my nose and try to keep the car as steady as possible when I hear Desiree scream. I hear Kai yelling at her, but I can’t lose focus. The car jerks when Killian pulls her out of Kai’s window.
“You’ve got it, babygirl. Keep going!” Killian yells to me and it feels like we’ve never been apart. We work together seamlessly. This is how it used to be when he didn’t hate me and he depended on me for things he would never trust anyone else with. Not that he has many other options right now. When I see Desiree’s legs swing through the window, I use one hand to reach out and steady her, letting her flop in the seat.
“I’m okay, I’m okay!” her voice is loud and trembling. “Keep it steady,” she tells me, like that isn’t what every cell of my body is focused on right now.
“Jump, you asshole!” I hear Killian yell to Kai, and dread fills my chest. If he doesn’t get out of the car, he’s going to lose control. Even the Pierce brothers are human, and I don’t want to be around to see their reign of Blackcrown Falls end like this.
“I’m not going to make it out. If I let go of the wheel…” Kai’s voice trails off and is muffled. I don’t dare look over to see if he’s partially out of his window. Even if Killian can grab him, he’s going to get hurt. Both of them could.
My heart sinks in my chest at the thought of losing Killian a second time. Not that I have him back, or that things will ever be good between us again. But I just can’t lose him again.
