Magic Underground: The Complete Collection (Magic Underground Anthologies Book 4) Page 226

  OMG!

  Roman and I made it.

Well, at least I made it. Roman had strict orders not to answer any questions. Roman leaned over and kissed my dumbfounded mouth while everyone clapped.

The announcer continued. “Our final round consists of three questions, and this round will be a lightning round, meaning the first to buzz in and answer gets the point.” The announcer placed a light-up buzzer on each of our tables. “And here we go. First question.”

I readied my hand and stared at Roman. Man, who knew I could have so much fun at trivia with my husband who was terrible at the game?

“Question one. What are the hallmark characteristics of a Frank Lloyd Wright building?”

Roman’s hand was so fast, I didn’t even see it hit the buzzer.

“What are you doing?” I whispered.

“Have faith, love.” He showed off his dimples. “It’s an architectural question.” He raised his voice. “Frank Lloyd Wright typically designed one-story homes, maybe two stories, that showcase humanity and nature’s connection.”

“You’re right!” the announcer said. I was shocked and slumped back into my seat, but only for a second before the announcer moved on to the next question.

“What is the main difference in appearance between a hamster and a gerbil?”

Both Roman and I slapped the button at the same time. I spoke up. “Hamsters don’t have tails while gerbils do.”

“Correct!” the announcer said. “The Quizzards of Oz are two-for-two. The final question, worth triple points. This is still anyone’s game. What year did the first witches appear in this realm?”

1765? Or was it 1764? My mind suddenly jumbled with the pressure.

But Roman had the buzzer pressed. “1763.”

That was wrong…wasn’t it? I held my breath, waiting for the announcer. “That is…correct!”

“Yeah!” I stood up, waving my hands in the air. Roman and I had won a trivia competition! How was that possible? I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his cheek while everyone else cheered. He leaned into my ear and said, “We won the honeymoon I never took you on.”

I laughed. “Yeah, but we still need to scrape together enough money for airline or train tickets.” Since neither of us were powerful enough with our magic to travel that far.

“Not so,” Roman said. “I might have a relative who needs to make up for missing a decade of my life. I think he’d be happy to send us to Vegas.”

Suddenly, an absurd idea became a possibility. “What about the shop?”

“Oh, come on, Mrs. Sunward. We just won trivia! Let’s worry about that problem another day. Today, let’s just be happy. Your store is doing well. The person sabotaging us has been caught. We won trivia, and we’re going on a honeymoon. Could it get much more perfect than this?”

I looked up into Roman’s dark eyes, realizing how lucky I was to have him by my side. “No. It couldn’t get more perfect than this.” And I planted a kiss right on his dimples, then leaned into his ear. “At least, not until we get back home…I think you need a reward for your mad trivia skills.”

When Roman blushed, I couldn’t help but smile. He was exactly perfect for me.

And I was starting to realize, I was perfect for him, too.

  About the Author

Joynell Schultz manages the family zoo (literally!) and writes paranormal fantasy, mystery, and science fiction in her (nearly non-existent) free time. She's a pharmacist by training (boring!) but prefers to hang out with zebras and bears or some imaginary characters. Oh, and she (finally!) hit the USA Today Bestsellers list.

  About Magical Mayhem Press

Magical Mayhem Press publishes exactly what you think it does: books chock full of magic and mayhem. It’s the only character-run press of its kind, but we do have one Scribe on staff (Melinda Kucsera) to do all the fiddly bits we fictional characters aren’t good at.

Who created the characters who run this press? Melinda Kucsera.

Since we’re fictional, we only exist when you read us, (we star in Melinda’s books found here: melindakucsera.com/the-curse-breaker-saga/) so getting our books into your hands is a matter of survival. That’s why we convinced Melinda to start a publishing house.

The characters who run this press also run a weekly fantasy-adventure newsletter, written by our Scribe, Melinda. If you need more magic and mayhem in your life, sign up at www.mkucsera.com/welcomecharacters to add us to your inbox. We make house calls.
